We had booked our NYE trips months in advance and were so excited to stay at the Edition. Obviously, room rates were at a premium for NYE but we paid because it was in the city and is supposed to be a premier hotel. We checked in about an hour early and our room wasn’t ready. We came back at 4 (one hour after check-in time) and it still wasn’t ready. We asked what the problem was and we were told the guests before us requested late check out and that’s why it wasn’t ready. Well, that’s not our problem. They should be prepared for that. We went out and came back and were told it still wasn’t ready and should only be about 15 more minutes because there was a maintenance issue. We thought maybe a clogged toilet. It was my birthday and we had reservations at 6 pm and hadn’t showered since getting off the plane that morning. They said it wasn’t ready but gave us a very small room to shower and get dressed and assured us it would be ready soon. We went to dinner and got back after 7:30 pm and guess what? Not ready! We had been talking to the “manager” (that’s what they said) but at this point demanded someone else needed to do something. They brought out the Quality Assurance Manager who finally told us the truth: the previous guest had smoked weed in the room and it smelled bad. They had an ozone machine going all day and the only other option was a downgraded room. We asked to go and smell the room for ourselves. The machine was still going and we didn’t really smell it that much. We said we would stay in this room and keep a window open. Well, it obviously got really cold with 5 windows open so we decided to close them when we left the next day. What a surprise when we returned that once it had been closed up it reeked of weed again. They brought the ozone machine back up. This is basically the gist of our time there. They told us they would take care of us for our troubles. When we checked out, we were given a 15% discount on the FIRST night only! That’s it! My husband remembered they said 25% the night of the check in and he had to argue about that. We finally left while they talked to the people “above” them. Got a phone call the next day that they would refund 25% of the first night and give us 10,000 Bonvoy points which is a joke. It then took phone calls, emails, and lots of time to get that. They made me fill out an authorization for a refund with my credit card info to get the refund when they had it the whole time. We were completely disgusted with this property and would never recommend it to anyone. I would recommend the service staff in the bar and restaurants as they were fantastic and always eager to help.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highlight that being there for New Years is especially cool with the views of fireworks!

The hotel has a minimalist design, and the beds were warm, comfortable, and clean. For us, it was a great place to return to after busy days of exploring—perfect for enjoying the warm fire in reception and getting a good night’s sleep. The location was ideal, especially as I could head out for early morning walks within easy walking distance to the , hot springs right outside (cannot swim in these but they are pretty) church, Rainbow Road, and other nearby spots. The hotel itself is no-frills, and breakfast was adequate. I was pleasantly surprised by the healthy options available, such as fresh salad, chia pudding, and skyr. There is also a coffee shop on-site, which was convenient for grabbing breakfast or drinks on the go. We had credits to use at the restaurant and chose to spend them on my birthday meal. Unfortunately, the service was painfully slow. Despite keeping staff informed about our delay, we waited over 1.5 hours to be served, which was especially challenging with two children. One child received her chicken and fries earlier, but the other didn’t get his meal until much later, leading to understandable frustration. We had hoped to enjoy dessert, but given the slow service, we decided not to wait any longer. The rooftop bar, however, was a highlight. It was a great place to hang out, and the matcha crème brûlée was a hit. The team there were attentive, friendly, and welcoming—especially towards our little one. Overall, I would happily return to this hotel, but I would avoid dining at the Tides restaurant.

I split my trip in Reykjavik - 2 nights at Hilton Parliament Hotel and 2 nights at The Edtion. By far I was more looking forward to staying at The Edition but it just proved appearances can be deceiving. The service is extremely disjointed, verging on bad. After check in (and asking 3 times) it took one hour for my suitcases to come to the room (I wanted to bring them up myself but they insisted). On the second day I returned from breakfast to find other guests luggage in my room, we had to phone for it to be removed. There is always a wait for breakfast or dinner with the dinner being nice but extremely expensive. There were guests bombing and screaming in the spa, then arguing at the reception. Also be aware you need to pay an additional $60 per day destination tax at this hotel - an unpleasant surprise at check out. Essentially they are forcing you to spend $60 per day at their hotel restaurant. The hotel is dark, moody and atmospheric. My preference is a light, uplifting hotel. My advice would be stay at the cheaper Hilton Parliament Hotel - better service and bigger, brighter rooms.

Luxury? More like near miss. The sleeping area of the room is nice enough but the lighting is terrible. I have no hope of organizing my luggage except during the limited daylight hours (January in Reykjavik sunrise is after 10 and sunset is before 6) when I would much prefer to be touring. The bathroom leaves much to be desired. I know Le Labo to be a luxury brand but I would have thought that a global hospitality brand like Marriott would have partnered to create a more inclusive scent. The smell is so overwhelmingly masculine that I could not bear to use the body lotion. The scent of the products at Element, Marriott’s much lower end hotel line, are SO much better. Tomorrow I will be walking around dry like a raisin and smelling like a man until I can buy bath gel and lotion, another errand taking away from my touring time, thanks Marriott. Thank goodness I brought my own hair care. And the design flaws continue in the bathroom with worse than subpar lighting, I have no idea how my husband will shave. The white floor grout that is no longer white, not the fault of housekeeping but truly an obvious poor design choice. Terrible towels that belong nowhere near the word “luxury” and the hairdryer that weighs more than Thor’s hammer. The staff are exceptionally good, too bad I didn’t come to Iceland and stay in a “luxury” (questionable) hotel to make friends
