This was a birthday treat to stay at this beautiful hotel! The service was excellent, the food was delicious, and the building itself was incredible. We could have moved in!!

Will not be returning

What used to be a family tradition with my sister and nieces to celebrate our birthdays, sadly has probably come to an end this summer. We have patronized The Jefferson and Lemaire for years, and this most recent visit was very underwhelming. As someone who comes from a career of a Marriott General Manager, I hate to have to write this review but felt it was necessary. My brother in law called the front desk to arrange a very nice bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries to be placed in the room before we arrived, which the front desk assured him several times they would be in the room and they were not. I only found out about them when I called the front desk to ask a question about something in the room, and she asked me when I would like my strawberries delivered. The note provided was addressed as if The Jefferson was giving them to us complimentary for my birthday, as it read “from your Jefferson family”. I would have never known that my brother in law was charged $250 for this to happen if he didn’t tell us about it. They also did not have the champagne that he paid for, and gave us a non comparable bottle. My sister went to the desk to ask about it, and they did bring up another bottle to apologize for the mistake. For a 5 star hotel with the level of service that should be provided, this was very surprising to happen this way. My sister and I drove separate, and when she arrived she was told that there was no valet parking available due to a wedding going on. While that may have been the case at the time, the staff could have left her car parked up front, or notified her when valet parking came available so that she didn’t have to stay parked in the self parking lot. While my niece was setting up her bag in the living room area of our suite, she found a used pacifier underneath the couch. This was disturbing for this made it through a housekeeping inspector and executive housekeeper, not something that I would expect to see paying over $700 for the room alone for one night. We dined at Lemaire, like we have many times, and this was our first time since the remodel opening and we were very excited to see the upgrades. Unfortunately, we were underwhelmed to say the least, and there was a significant drop in the taste and quality of food, as well as service from our waitress. We even commented that she was our same waitress last on the same weekend last year, and she was less than thrilled to be serving us. Lastly, while my sister was retrieving her car from the self parking area, I was waiting outside of the valet station with 3 children and an infant and all of our bags. When my vehicle arrived from valet, not one employee offered to help me with my bags. I counted 6 employees watch me load my bags and my infant into my vehicle without offering any type of assistance. In fact, I had a female employee wave me down to say that I hadn’t paid for my valet parking yet, as I was folding up my stroller and putting it in the back of my vehicle. I let her know that the front desk told me the parking would be complimentary for my birthday, and if I needed to pay I would and I wasn’t trying to get away without paying. Unless things have changed, I thought valet parking still included assistance with your luggage. It seems like word of mouth has gone around Richmond about the decline in service and wow factor, for Lemaire was pretty empty on a Saturday night and the lobby lacked a crowd. For spending nearly $1300 for our room, dinner, and breakfast Sunday morning, you just expect so much more from what The Jefferson used to be. If you are looking for a resort in VA that lives up to its name, check out The Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs.

A beautiful hotel in Richmond. Staff is fabulous, very accommodating and friendly. Extremely clean with comfy beds and pillows. I have stayed at 5 star hotels all over the world and this holds up to any of them.

Impressive

I grew up in Richmond and have always wanted to stay at The Jefferson. My husband and I were consistently impressed with our stay, from start to finish. Every employee we came across during our stay was friendly and engaging. Our room was large and immaculately clean. We were never bothered by noise during our stay. We took the house car to and from restaurants, which is a wonderful service. The common areas are absolutely gorgeous and reflect the hotel's wonderful history. We will absolutely stay again when visiting Richmond.

A 5-Star Stay

What an amazing stay at The Jefferson!! From valet, to front desk to bell staff, bartender and wait staff - everyone exuded southern hospitality and courtesy. Even though the hotel is old, our room was large, comfortable and updated. Loved that we received fresh bottles of water every day without asking and plentiful toiletry items. Had breakfast at Lamaire twice and dinner once - all delicious and 5- star experiences. To us, this hotel outshines every other place we have stayed in Richmond and it’s worth the price.
