We had a wonderful time. Staff very friendly and efficient. Kezia at the breakfast time was particularly friendly. Having the ability to rent paddle boards and canoes at the beach club is a nice bonus! Thank you

We had a fabulous stay at fairmont Rio! The staff was amazing and tailored to our kids. A big thank you to our waiter Murilo who went above and beyond for us and our kids during our stay. We are vegetarian and he had the chef make Vegetarian kid friendly meals for our kids and even had the chef make vegetarian dishes for breakfast. He was so kind and highly recommend you ask for him as your waiter! We had a fabulous time at Rio and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel for any families. Thank you Fairmont Rio!

Murcilo made our experience truly exceptional. His attention to detail is outstanding, and he has a rare ability to make every guest feel genuinely special and well cared for. What stood out most was his incredible memory — he remembered small details and preferences in a way that made the service feel deeply personal and thoughtful. Murcilo brings a level of warmth, professionalism, and care that is hard to find. He doesn’t just do his job well — he elevates the entire guest experience. Hospitality comes naturally to him, and it shows in every interaction. He is a real asset to the hotel, and his dedication absolutely deserves recognition. We also had an incredible experience at the spa. The care, professionalism, and quality of the massage were truly fantastic. It was a deeply relaxing and luxurious experience, and the level of service throughout was outstanding.

This is one of those hotels that has a very impressive lobby, credentials, and the supposed 5 stars but the actual experience does not live up to the hype or the price at all. First of all, front desk is just unresponsive. We arrived late at 2am from a long flight and were super hungry. They assured us at check-in that they have 24/7 room service. Well, once we got to the room, I called (multiple times) room service, front desk, concierge, etc - no one replied. Went to sleep hungry. Second, literally everything in this hotel is broken. In our first room, balcony door didn’t lock at all, so we heard all the street noises the whole night. Shower handle was also broken. There was hair in the shower. There was tons of mold. We asked for a new room, so they offered another one - that one also had the balcony door broken (this time it wouldn’t open). In our third room, bathroom door didn’t lock, chromecast didn’t work, and some shower tubes were broken. I told them about the bathroom door, they said they’ll send someone up to fix it - never happened. Whenever I tried to call front desk even during normal hours - no response at all. Might as well not have the phone in the room. Asked to use the hotel ATM (so I can leave some tips) - surprise, hotel ATM is broken. Btw, they include 10-15% service fee on your hotel bill for everything so maybe don’t tip. But they don’t tell you that until the end. Service was spotty. Almost no one speaks any English, so anytime you order at the pool or restaurant, they get stuff wrong. I’m happy to explain or use Google Translate but they just assure you they understood and then bring something else. We had friends who stayed in a different hotel come visit us for a drink by the pool - that turned out to be a huge issue and they gave us a bunch of trouble for it without trying to accommodate us. I tried to provide this feedback to the hotel directly but they either ignored me or just never picked up the phone. When I checked out, they didn’t care to ask how things were. So I’m writing up here instead as a warning for others. Don’t expect a 5 star experience and expect things to be broken, service to be spotty and unresponsive.

We went for breakfast with a 1 year old kid and the service by Murilo and Edna was excellent. They made sure we had shade and all the food the baby needed. Top notch dedication. Great.
