Enjoy an unforgettable experience at the Fairmont RJ Copacabana, located in one of the most spectacular places in Rio de Janeiro, the Copacabana Beach, under the majestic gaze of Sugar Loaf Mountain. Inspired by the glamour carioca in the 1950's, this luxury hotel is an oasis. There are 10 rooms categories with a balcony, and the Gold Rooms offer a private lounge and exclusive services.

Absolutely outstanding hotel and service. We will return ~ and only to the Fairmont Copacabana. Our favorite hotel employee by far was Murilo at breakfast each morning who was friendly and helpful. Murilo made our stay comfortable. He was professional and attentive.

Wonderful experience!! Above all, the staff truly went above and beyond to make us feel at home. Murilo and Edna in particular were fantastic, as was the rest of the team.

Happy to report back that the Fairmont Hotel exceeded all expectations. The location and iconic view of Rio alone made it a total stand out, let alone the service and security was unmatched. Don’t skip on the hotel restaurant – it not only serves delicious food and provides an amazing view, but the staff is friendly and informative. Specifically, our server Murillo was a joy. He recommended options on the menu that were uniquely delicious and was a warm, friendly face to see each day at breakfast or lunch. All in all, our stay at the Fairmont was spectacular.

The Fairmont Rio delivers on every front — location, service, and atmosphere. Perched in the heart of the city with the Copacabana as your backdrop, it is hard to imagine a more iconic setting. What truly sets this property apart, however, is its people. The team around General Manager Netto Moreira operates at the highest level — warm, professional, and genuinely attentive without ever feeling intrusive. It is the kind of service culture that does not happen by accident; it is clearly led from the top. From check-in to check-out, every interaction reflected a team that takes real pride in what they do. If you are looking for a world-class base from which to experience Rio, look no further. Highly recommended.

We stayed 15 nights at the Fairmont Copacabana and came away disappointed, especially given the price point and the expectations associated with the Fairmont brand. This is not a review I write lightly. I’ve stayed in many hotels and typically only leave positive reviews—but this experience warrants a candid and structured assessment. Location: - Ideally situated at the end of Copacabana Beach - Easy walk to Ipanema and surrounding areas - Excellent access to both neighborhoods - Stunning view of Copacabana from rooftop pool This is one of the hotel’s strongest attributes and a major reason we chose it. Room & Comfort: Very comfortable bed with an attractive, modern design, and a nice little balcony with cozy seating. However, storage was limited and poorly designed for a longer stay, housekeeping was inconsistent (both in timing and completeness), and there were minor maintenance issues (e.g., shower leakage into the bathroom). Food & Dining: The main restaurant offers a high-quality dinner experience and a strong breakfast/brunch. However, it is not well-suited for lunch, with limited lighter or casual options. Aside from the main restaurant, the bar, pool, and room service menus are largely identical and were uninspired, limited in variety, and offered very few options for local or authentic Brazilian cuisine. For a longer stay, the lack of variety becomes a real issue. We frequently chose to dine outside the hotel as a result. Service: Staff was polite, but service was inconsistent and impersonal. Attentiveness varied significantly depending on location (pool/bar in particular). At times, service felt transactional rather than guest-focused. Amenities & Common Areas: Pool and bar areas emphasize atmosphere and “VIP” culture. Seating access is often tied to food and beverage orders - meaning you cannot access the beach-facing rooftop pool unless you are seated by a host and open a bar or restaurant tab. Common areas were confined to the indoor lobby, which was frequently overcrowded due to business conference events during our stay. In my experience, most hotels of this caliber have better conference facilities to host and entertain attendees without imposing upon the leisure travelers. Business / Productivity (Important): Rooms lack a functional workspace. There is no proper desk; only a small round table that is not suitable for laptop use. 👉 Tip for business travelers: If you plan to work during your stay or are attending (or even planning) a conference, be aware that standard rooms are not set up for productivity. For a hotel that actively hosts corporate events, this is a significant gap. Loyalty Program (Important Note): If you book through TripAdvisor or other third-party platforms, you will not earn Fairmont (ALL/Accor) loyalty points for your stay - only for incidental charges. We spent over $10,000 on this stay and, from a loyalty perspective, were effectively treated as if we had never been there. When we asked about this policy at checkout, and if an exception could be made given our lengthy stay, we were informed that this policy was clear in the rewards material, and we should have know this when we booked it. In reality, the policy is not clearly communicated during third-party booking (e.g TripAdvisor) and may come as a surprise to many guests. Overall Assessment This hotel may appeal to travelers looking for a lively, social atmosphere and a visually appealing setting. However, it falls short in several fundamental areas — service consistency, dining variety, and room functionality — that are especially important for longer stays, business travel, or anyone expecting a true luxury experience. At this price point, the experience did not come close to meeting expectations. Based on our stay, we would not choose this property again and would not recommend it for anything beyond a short, leisure-focused visit.
