Great bell staff and Tour Guide

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Had a great stay thanks to the bell staff and our private tour booked with the hotel. Victor, Alfredo, and Jesus were so polite and welcoming. We felt right at home after meeting them. Our private tour guide, Mohammad, was our favorite part of our stay in Rio. Highly, highly recommend asking for him if you do a custom tour. He was so nice, patient, kind, and informative. Very nice car too. Thank you!

Best of the best in Rio

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We have stayed in many different Fairmont’s and our experience was over the top here at the Copacabana. Our room on the gold floor was amazing. The customer service was the best and beyond exceptional. The staff was so kind and helpful. They saw to our every need. Our server, Duarte, in the evening was so attentive. His recommendations on places to go were better than any concierge we have ever had. We have a lot of places to visit on our bucket list and hadn’t considered coming back to Rio until our stay here at the Fairmont.

The right choice, with imperfections

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I thought long and hard about where to stay, having friends who had recently chosen the Copacabana Palace and the Fasano. Neither was effusive about those, and the Fairmont was half the price of either . I chose it, based on generally good experience of Fairmont properties, reasonable price and the optimum location. Strengths: - location is great, both being accessible to Ipanema and Copacabana on foot, and the immediate part of the Copacabana beach which is very attractive. - excellent concierge. Really excellent at solving problems which are hard to do yourself as a non-Brazilian/non-Portuguese speaker. - great fitness centre. Pretty much as good as you get in a 5* hotel without it being a 'managed gym'. Big, well equipped with every accessory and machine, Great. - beach club is a nice extra. Small, but right outside - personally I like the architecture, although inside it's a bland modern hotel. Weaknesses - there are 2 pools but they are for sunbathing, and are very crowded. Overall, the lobby, pool, breakfast space is a very 'intense scene' which could do with at least 50% more space for the size of the hotel. Pools cannot be swum in (more than a stroke) - the standard rooms are in good condition, but are small. Single sink, no tub. All good quality but not 'resort spacious'. - there's a huge difference between the stunning sea view and the depressing city view. If you value a view, it's worth paying for. - F&B is mediocre. Slow service, average quality. Breakfast wasn't a massive selection given the number of guests it serves. Staff are lovely - this is a reference to the kitchen and functioning. - housekeeping was erratic. Lots of mistake (the worst one being to find our door left open - blocked lock - when we returned from dinner) I would choose it again. The top top hotels look nice, but I don't see the additional value of a much higher price. This was definitely worth the premium over the Hilton/Grand Mercure market. Just know what you're getting.

Best big hotel in Rio

The Fairmont Rio hotel was such a special experience. My friends and I felt so fortunate to have the experience we did. Our rooms were comfortable with fresh crisp sheets, great beds, beautiful balconies and good bathrooms. The staff were incredible with a special shoutout to Alfredo who greeted us every day at the entrance with such warmth, Jesus who helped with our bags, to Murillo, Tiago, and the friendly women who were hosts at the breakfast, to the housekeeping staff and Igor, Juliander and the spa staff, as well as Vinicius and the concierge staff. The hotel itself is gorgeous with comfortable temps inside and a spectacular view at the pool bar. We were really pleased with the whole experience at the Fairmont Rio and hope to return someday.
