LUXURY IN THE RAINFOREST

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

This is a luxury hotel with extraordinary service (everyone is assigned a "butler" to make sure that complimentary morning tea arrives, that you don't miss afternoon free champagne, and that you generally feel pampered) in a literally fantastic setting (the hotel sits in lush acres of native jungle plants and ornamentals). Our simple garden King room had a shower and tub in a wet room big enough to throw a party. Other luxury touches included a small back patio, an entry foyer with a large bar, and a walk-in closet/luggage room. Rooms are in many separate modest-sized buildings. If walking to them under the forest canopy or in a warm tropical shower isn't your thing, there are a bunch of small shuttles available for free to keep you dry and LOTS of eager young staff ready to take you to your room (or anywhere else on the enormous property that you might wish to go). There are lots of pretty umbrellas at hand, and we were given one to take home. As some others have noted, food choices were limited, but the lambchops and salads (hummus, baba ganoush, tzatziki) at Paros Restaurant were great -- AND THE VIEW OUT TO THE OCEAN AT SUNSET WAS GORGEOUS. So was the hamburger and other small plates (and Pina Coladas) at the St. Regis Bar. We tried one highly rated local restaurant one night, but found that the hotel's food was far better. One morning, the wife did the spa (Rum massage) and I did golf. Another day we took a taxi to Old San Juan. The next afternoon a nature guide took us on tour of the Bahia property, which has received an ecological award from Audubon. Then on another day we were 2 of 10 guests on a tour to nearby El Yunke rainforest that started at the hotel. That didn't leave us nearly enough time in our 6 days to lounge at the pool with drinks in our hands, or a bowl of seviche, or wood fired oven pizza from SeaGrape restaurant (servers will bring your food and drink to you), shaded by enormous umbrellas, or floating in the enormous clean serpentine-shaped pool. If you want a luxurious, relaxing vacation with golf, spa, and a nearby exotic rainforest this is a best bet!

Terrible

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

hello, we are staying in this hotel now, there are 3 families with us, the children and I flew from Miami to celebrate the birthday of our child, 4 years old and mine, 38 years old, we are all shocked by the hotel, this is a terrible place! I forgave the hotel for a month to decorate the room with balloons and prepare a cake for my little daughter, she turns 4 years old on May 11, 2024, they brought eggs, not balloons, they did not satisfy my request for animators, and accordingly, no room decorations! I wanted to pay extra, but they said they would prepare everything! for starters, here is the dirtiest pool in the world, human and animal poop floats in the pool (I have 2 children, I know the difference) and it closes at 1.30 for chlorine, and the children have nowhere to go because the kids club is closed! There's nothing for kids to do in the heat! All the promised children's entertainment stated on the site are closed or do not work! As for the room, the path to the room consists of obstacles made of poop! old broken building, uncomfortable beds, we got building 9, probably for homeless people, although I paid $1400/night! two restaurants that have absolutely no service, I feel like I’m in a 3 star hotel!

Third time back over the past 4 years

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

I am a Marriott Lifetime Titanium member and booked a Deluxe King Garden view room using points for 3 nights in April 2024. I then applied 3 nightly upgrade awards and was notified of my upgraded room 3 days before arrival. We were upgraded to a Luxury, 1 Bedroom Suite, 1 King, Sofa bed, Garden view, Balcony, room 624. The cost of this Suite would have been ~$2080 a night so it was a nice surprise to say the least. Check in was smooth, welcome drink offered, status and benefits recognized and provided. The only pet-peeve I have (and this goes for most hotel chains Hilton and Marriott) is that they ask "Have you been here before?". They all need to be trained to look at the computer screen before asking that question. They have this information available to them so they need to be trained better since I get this asked whether I stayed their last month or last year. Our upgraded room was immaculate. Two full baths, a huge balcony, welcome champagne and recognition of my wife's big birthday that I mentioned to them a few days before our arrival that was last month but she is still celebrating ;). Bed was very comfy (pillow options would be nice though). AC was great! Plenty of hot and cold water and great pressure. All-in-all, it matched the level of excellence that I have come to expect from this property. Also, the gardens were well kept (much better then the last time we stayed just post-covid). Our favorite bartenders were still there and provided excellent personalized service as usual. Shout-out to Krystal, Jesus, and Orlando! The butler service (now a pooled effort; you do not work with a single resource) was prompt in delivering our morning French Pressed Coffee, taking and returning laundry, and providing ice-buckets when needed. Shout out to Jonathan We ate once at the bar, once at Paros, and once off-site. Both meals onsite were excellent. Even when we stay for 5 nights we eat at the bar twice and Paros twice, then once off-site. If you are going to eat at the bar or Paros more than twice you will probably be disappointed. The lack of true dinner options is a limitation if you are staying here for a week or more. Buffet breakfast was excellent each morning. Good fresh food, coffee and juices. The first morning there was an issue with the hot plated food only being warm (the setup was different for the other mornings and did not have an issue; I suspect it was because they had a corporate event to also handle that morning). Note to Bonvoy members getting the breakfast amenity: you will pay $9 extra pp for the full buffet (still a bargain), and pay extra for cappuccinos and mimosas. This is just the way these American and Caribbean Marriott hotels interpret the breakfast benefit and is a major grip with Marriott's inconsistency on this benefit. For example, when you go to Europe and Asia you get a full breakfast for free. Heck, at the St Regis in the Maldives and Bora Bora the breakfast included everything including mimosas, fancy coffee's, and Bloody Mary's!). Pool and Beach No problem getting chairs the first morning, then we booked a couples cabana for the third morning and it was great! Its a splurge, but the private sanctuary and attentive service was worth it. The beach has aggressive waves that were fun to be in and the water was warm, the sand was combed each morning and was nicely manicured. Spa We both had massages and our treatments were excellent (as they have been all three times we have visited). The facilities were spotless and showed vary little wear, obviously they are being well maintained. Minor Issues: - The main gym next to the spa had only 1 working treadmill (still! another review wrote about this a few weeks before we arrived). - I know this information only because I've stayed here three times, but they need to tell you what the resort fee includes. For example, you get access to the other gym (ask the front desk about it; it is much bigger), and to the 'inflatable water park', tennis courts, driving range, and most importantly the spa facilities ANYTIME YOU WANT! I say this because I take advantage of the spa every day. My recommendation is for the hotel to provide guests a small card with all the bullet from the web-site about what you get with the resort fee (there are 27 bulleted items). -Another issue was when it rained one morning and the breakfast venue (Seagrapes) had several leaks in the ceiling. Apparently their is an active disagreement between hotel management and ownership on how to resolve the Seagrapes dilemma. The dilemma being how to make the upgrades to Seagrapes to fix the leaks and prevent the birds from annoying the guests every morning. Hopefully they are able to resolve this issue before my next trip to the resort. Overall another great stay at this property with a free areas of improvement needed to make sure this resort stays in the 5-Star category! We will return!

They’re trying and it shows

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

TLDR: They’re trying and it shows. We came to the St. Regis for a work celebration at the end of April. 5 days, 4 nights. Pros: the grounds are beautiful and an escape from reality. The hotel rooms are each subdivided into separate buildings from the main lobby which isn’t a problem unless it’s raining (which it does a few times a day). The spa is a first class experience from start to finish. And the service is really great. There was no request left unattended. Cons: like others have said, the hotel lacks a lot of food options and on the weekends if you’re looking for an adult getaway, you’re better off at the beach club adult pool. We found the food at the beach club to be far better than anything at the main hotel. Additionally, it’s clear they’re still working through renovations after the hurricane as there was peeling wallpaper in our room and cracks in the ceiling. The tv was a bit glitchy too but we barely spent any time there.

St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort Puerto Rico April 18-20, 2024

My husband and I stayed at the St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort Puerto Rico for 3 nights. It was spectacular. It was the nicest hotel by far that we have ever stayed at. The level of service blew us away. We were there for a conference and were booked in a one bedroom room with a balcony. It was their basic room. The room was huge. It had the largest shower I have ever seen in a hotel room. It also had a bathtub, a coffee maker, and a huge balcony with a very nice lounge chair as well as other balcony furniture. We were able to stream netflix from the television. The beach and pools were beautiful. The beach bar made fabulous strawberry daquiris as well as other drinks. We were able to order drinks from our beach chairs. There were plenty of lounge chairs with umbrellas at both the pool and the beach which did not need to be reserved in advance. I was told I would need to reserve a cabana but we were able to use one without a reservation and without an extra charge. All the food we ate at the resort was really good. Dinner was included each night at the conference but we ordered breakfast and lunch at the different restaurants each day. The first day we had the buffet breakfast, which wasn't bad but underwhelming for $45 but the next two days we ordered off the menu and both the eggs benedict and breakfast sandwich with potatoes were spectacular. I would definitely suggest ordering from the breakfast menu. We had a chicken sandwich and a salad from room service and that tasted great as well. Seagrapes has an outdoor pizza oven and their pepperoni pizza was delicious . One of the highlights of our trip besides meeting the friendly people at the conference was taking the resort tour with Sebastian as our guide. I called to reserve this tour ahead of time. There is limited availability and reservations are required. It is one of the activities that is included in the resort fee. Sebastian drove us around the resort on the golf cart, showing us the resort and talking about the different plants and animals that live there as well as answering all of our questions. We were the only two people on the tour and the tour took about an hour. We were able to get some incredible pictures and we also found the information about the grounds and different wildlife very interesting. Everyone we met at the resort was very friendly and helpful. We were greeted by name and everyone we met was always smiling. The level of service the whole time was on a higher level than I have experienced anywhere else. We really enjoyed our time at this resort.
