Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Rainforest Beach & Golf Resort

We had a very nice stay here- our first time. Of note were the sea turtle walk and the kids nature walk. Jennifer and Bianca were great - and extra patient with our very curious kid. He loved the pool and water slides as well.

5 o’clock somewhere pool bar wa fun and relaxing at the same time. Xavier was a gracious ambassador for the hotel and for his island. He provided wonderful tips for exploring, in addition to making a mean pina colada. Highly recommend!!

Good news: Victoria checked us in and she was WONDERFUL! She was so friendly and had great energy. She treated us with respect and tried her best to get us good deals/rooms. The staff who were higher up wouldn't work with her/us, but that doesn't take away from her kindness and effort. Bad news: My family and I have been visiting Wyndham Grand Rio Mar for OVER TWENTY YEARS. Years ago, the staff would go out of their way to make us feel welcome and they treated us like family. However, that has changed and it's very disappointing. In the past, the check-in staff/management would offer us discounted rates, free upgrades to suites, free breakfast vouchers, or they would have surprise birthday/anniversary gifts delivered to our rooms. Over the last few years, that has ended. The staff doesn't acknowledge our loyalty to their resort. We obviously have many other options for places to stay, but we continuously come back to Rio Mar. However, that will need to change. Why would we want to return to a place that doesn't make us feel wanted? This year was extra special because we were celebrating our parents' 50th anniversary at the resort. When we checked in, we were told Ruth R. would come out to welcome us back, but she never spoke to us or made contact with us our entire stay. We were very surprised to find out that nothing was sent to our parents' room to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Rio Mar no longer goes out of its way to make their customers feel special. In addition, we booked five nights because there was a promotion at the time of our booking - stay 4 nights and get 1 night free. The person who booked our reservation didn't add that code to our reservation, so we didn't get that promotion. We left frustrated and upset. (Always check your invoice before you leave. Every year we catch at least one mistake on the final bill.) Finally, the breakfast buffet used to be the highlight of our stay. The most popular option at the buffet was the egg and waffle station. We were sad to see that they got rid of that station. It doesn't make sense that the management would remove one of the best parts of the buffet. Every year there was a long line of people waiting to make fresh omelets and waffles. Over the last several years, we have referred this resort to many friends. Over a dozen families/couples have visited this resort because of our wonderful experiences. Unfortunately, we will no longer be referring this resort to our friends.
