Not 5 stars. Could be beautiful and probably once was. The staff is fine. Needs a lot of work. Pool tiles were cracked and dirty. We had to ask the staff to put coverlets on our furniture as it smelled very bad. Our hot water in the shower needed the fixtures fixed as we had either very hot or freezing water. The spa was just strange the way it was operated. They made everyone use the hombres section and there were male attendants for the hot tub and steam rooms which I chose not to use. Maybe the women’s section didn’t work. The masseuse staff was trained in their skills though. The best restaurant was the sushi and martini one. This seemed like a place that has a decent staff but has been let fall into disrepair. Very sad because the setting is beautiful and restful. Would take a lot of money to bring it up to a true 5 star place. Included a pic of the sink in the bathroom spa. You get the idea.

Honestly probably the best hotel I have ever stayed in and I have traveled ALOT. Food is excellent, service is good, hotel is beautiful, views are beautiful. They have horseback riding close by. Beach is perfect. Very quiet resort. Quieter pool option or fun beach poolside option. It was expensive but worth it. Could improve organized activities together. We wanted to go snorkeling but there was not enough people to go with.

As a family that has traveled to over 60 countries, we can confidently say this was one of a memorable vacations we have had—and the highest compliment of all came from our son, who declared this his favorite trip ever. The property is stunning, serene, and impeccably maintained, but what truly sets Buenaventura apart is its people. A special thank-you to Luis, the manager, who went above and beyond to ensure every detail of our stay was perfect. From thoughtful touches to proactive care, his warmth, professionalism, and genuine desire to make our experience exceptional did not go unnoticed. This wasn’t just a hotel stay—it was an experience filled with comfort, care, and unforgettable moments as a family. Buenaventura has set a new benchmark for hospitality, and we cannot wait to return. Highly, highly recommended. Luis is the best

Warning - bed bugs - please examine your bed before sleeping in it we had 3 single rooms and two rooms had bed bugs and were beaten terribly. The management denied it saying it were mosquitos which is absolutely redicilous because I am an experienced traveller and know of course the difference between bed bugs and mosqitos - if it were at the beginning of the holiday we would have to cancel everything, a simpy nightmare

This resort has the potential to be great, but it needs some updating. The wear and tear is evident. Our room was upgraded because both the TV and phone did not work which was very nice - so it was a much bigger room but still felt dated. The staff were all very nice but no one is rushing to serve you. Only two of the restaurants were open for dinner but they were both very good, the food was fresh and tasty. The outdoor and pool areas were lovely. Good value.
