Called a “sexy, eco-conscious hideaway in the jungle” by Travel + Leisure, Viceroy Riviera Maya utilizes nature’s beauty in its design and details. Thatched stucco villas are finished with louvered mahogany doors, sisal rugs and canopy beds with Egyptian linens, and the surrounding rainforest infuses the grounds with serenity. Viceroy blends just the right amount of indulgence into your stay: Beckon a “tropical butler” for a poolside iced towel and learn about the area’s best tequilas during a tasting led by the resident Maestro Tequilero.

We would go back in a heartbeat. We stayed for 9 nights, and left the resort only one day for a private tour to Tulum. The pool, restaurant, and beach staff are among the best trained, friendliest, and helpful team of coworkers we've ever encountered. Special requests didn't disturb them at all. In fact, they seemed to thrive on providing a customized experience outside their usual. Like good improvisational actors, their answers always start with, "yes, and . . ." Truly an awesome experience. Pricey, but worth it!

Did a lot of research to find the right place to stay and it paid off. This resort is luxurious and peaceful. So, from the start...was glad I read about this place being a bit off the beaten track when approaching in the car because it is not a luxurious road that leads up to the hotel so felt a bit dodgy. 😃 Once inside we received a warm welcome and tour, of this stunning, jungle resort. (Didn't like that they took out credit card away to process in arrival but this seems to be common outside the UK.) We were shown all the amenities, of which there are many, and then shown round our beautiful suite. Clean, well air-conditioned, spacious, loads of storage and clothes space. The pool was warm enough to be able to get in without the usual cringing, and lit up at night. Great to have a private space to chill, with plenty of sun and shade. So many lovely extras provided and they thought of your every need, eg umbrellas, mosquito repellent, pool net, daily news/weather in a cute format. The food was incredible! The menu was a la carte, rather than buffet style. Every single dish we ate was so fresh and full of flavour. The portions were a good size and we definitely left a few kilos heavier. The margaritas (as you would hope) were on point, and the mezcal cocktails delicious too. There were a LOT of staff (predominantly men) who tended to our needs and were always helpful & attentive. The beach is nice to walk along and a bit further up from the hotel is good to swim. Pool area is clean, with plenty of loungers, towels and parasols. Points to note: there was a fair bit of wildlife (see pics) so if you have arachnophobia or are not keen on lizards, this is probably not the place for you. Generally wildlife kept to itself but we did have a few visitors. If I was a woman travelling alone, I am not sure how safe I would feel in terms of the door locks. The main doors to the room are sliding doors with a catch as the lock. It worked fine and the resort is enclosed but didn't feel fully secure. There was no incident but something to be aware of. Overall, if you are looking for an upmarket hotel with privacy to relax, this is a great option. Not too far from the amazing historical sites and natural wonders. Near to bars and restaurants along the beach so you don't need to go all inclusive if you'd prefer not to. Would definitely recommend - pricey but worth the treat.

We had the most amazing stay at Viceroy Riviera Maya. Tucked away in the jungle, it feels incredibly private and peaceful – like your own little paradise. Our villa was beautiful, with a private plunge pool, outdoor shower, and the kind of calm you only find in nature. The staff were warm, attentive, and made us feel right at home from day one. The food was delicious, especially breakfast by the beach – fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Just quiet luxury, thoughtful details, and a real connection to the surroundings. We left feeling recharged and already dreaming of coming back. Thanks!

This really is a dreamy resort. Beautifully nested by the ocean surrounded by jungle. The villas are gorgeous and roomy. It feels like you are in an another world. The staff have mastered their craft and are always available and easy to work with. The spa is absolutely to die for. Simply everything has been carefully thought through.

My wife and I recently celebrated our anniversary with a vacation that, regrettably, fell short of our expectations. We encountered numerous issues during our stay, most notably the presence of roaches and other insects (huge spider) in our hotel room. This unsettling experience was compounded by the overall cleanliness of the accommodations, which left much to be desired. Disappointed and uncomfortable, we made the decision to cut our trip short by a day, hoping to salvage some enjoyment from our special occasion. The sargassum is very bad in this area. Unfortunately, this is out of the hotels control. I do feel travelers should be very aware that there is no white sand beaches to enjoy and that the smell from rotting on the beach is so bad, it makes you feel sick to your stomach. Please do your best research beforehand. Below are pictures of how dirty & outdated the beach front villa is. I also attached pictures of the bite marks my wife experienced.
