Reviews for Grand Hotel Plaza

Never again

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I’m not someone who usually writes reviews, but this hotel truly warranted one. I’ve stayed here multiple times over the years and always came back because of its incredible location . My last stay was in 2018, and at that time was still not bad. Unfortunately, my recent visit in May 2025 was extremely disappointing. The hotel is in serious need of renovation. While I appreciate classic and historic properties, there’s a difference between preserving authenticity and simply allowing things to become outdated and run-down. there is a difference between “historic charm” and simply old and neglect The furniture was heavily worn, the room felt neglected, outdated no maintenance and to top it off, we found * A SPIDER ON THE BED* which raised serious concerns about hygiene. I checked out within a few hours of arriving and reached out to the hotel for a refund. The recipient told me to send an email , but was completely ignored. That lack of professionalism and basic customer service was the final disappointment. This used to be a place I loved.

The Grand Hotel Plaza: a Great Hotel But Overpriced

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

The Grand Hotel Plaza: a Great Hotel But Overpriced I have stayed at this hotel for many years, and was quite disappointed when it closed even after the pandemic. The lobby is unbelievably beautiful, with Canova'white marble lion monumentalizing the Great Staircase. The rooms can be quite wonderful, if you get the right ones. So be careful, and ask questions about them before booking. The dining is bloody awful. Do not even consider it. And frankly, I think this hotel is overpriced. It pains me to say it, since I would never think of staying anywhere else in Rome, but that is the truth, given the size of some of the rooms. We always stay in the rooms with balconies; but even then, I still think the prices could be more reasonable. Hesitantly, I highly recommend this hotel. It is, despite my reservations, one of my favorites, and its location is spectacular, off via del Corso and via dei Condotti, with the world's most fabulous shopping outlets -- which I personally hate, trivializing the grandeur of the city -- and leading to the marvelous Spanish Steps and the house where the great and very young English poet, John Keats, expired, even as he listened to the sounds of the street just below his window penetrating his dimunitive room. I also recommend, opposite, the Keats-Shelley Memorial House, Babington's, the English eating establishment, which is quite good. Good luck with this one. RICHARD MILAZZO richardmilazzo.com

A two-day workshop that exceeded our expectations

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 months ago

We held a two-day academic workshop at Grand Hotel Plaza and our guests were blown away by the hotel's grandeur, excellent food, and attentive service. The hotel staff were very accommodating to all our requests and delivered an exceptional experience for our attendees.

Beautiful hotel, with a few suggestions for improvement

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 months ago

I would like to start by saying that we LOVED staying in this hotel. The decor is marvelous. The location is unexcelled. Previous negative reviews clearly do not appreciate the antique decor, which we loved. The personnel at the front desk was consistently friendly and welcoming, even after we checked out. We had a fifth floor suite with a view of the plaza. The room was ENORMOUS, which makes sense for the price. The bathroom was also very big (more about this later), with a double sink, a bidet (which I LOVE and is disappearing in many European hotel rooms), and a great porcelain bathtub, which I used three times. There were numerous amenities in the bathroom as well, in addition to a great hair dryer and robes and slippers for both of us. It was very luxurious. So the things that I am about to say are only suggestions, not criticisms. I think that for over 900 euros per night, that we should have had a magnifying mirror (this is STANDARD in almost every hotel we have stayed in - and we travel A LOT). We should have been given free water EVERY DAY instead of only twice during a four night stay. (The tap water in Rome is not amazing). And most of all, although the bathroom SEEMED luxurious, the shower stall was the cheapest possible plastic stall that you could get at the HOME DEPOT (or its Italian equivalent) for about 100 USD. We expected something more. In addition, all the amenities should have been replaced every day (reminder that we paid over 900 euros a NIGHT). 4 Q-tips/cotton swabs were hardly enough for a 4 night stay for 2 people. I KNOW that the management response will be "you only had to ask for more" My point is that for 900+ euros a NIGHT there should not be a question of ASKING FOR MORE. Over all it was a very nice hotel room, with some room for upgrades. Thank you for a lovely stay. Please consider these suggestions.
