Reviews for Grand Hotel Plaza

The staff are the real stars of this hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

This historic grand hotel has been featured in many films, and despite its' age it has appeared in many modern (actions) films. The location is perfect, right in the centre of Rome. One street away from the famous Via Condotti and many great restaurants, Gelateria, and most importantly for us, a Carrefour express grocery store. While the hotel is breathtakingly beautiful, the rooms need major upgrading. Some of the common areas such as Lobby and receptions would also benefit from a slight touch of rejuvenation. The staff are incredible, from the reception staff, lobby/ baggage staff, room service, and housekeeping. They are all worthy of a five star in service, or perhaps the five stars earned by this hotel are from these team of staff?

There was no heating for our 3 nights stay .Every time we complained promptly the technician was sent to the room and assured that in 40 minutes everything wd be sorted. Finally when we checked out on 22nd morning we were informed that in rome as per govt orders heating was not allowed from 15th march. The grand plaza was a gloomy disaster we are 70 plus couple. It wd have been better staying in a smaller hotel not so expensive. They shd refund our money.

Absolutely great experience!

We had a pleasure to spend a few days and nights around the New year's уму at Plaza hotel in Rome. The surprises started straight upon our arrival, when we got a room upgrade. The hotel's interior makes you think of a museum of fine arts! Marble stars with the famous Lion, art-deco glass decorations on each stairwell landing, touching detail - a basket of apples by the elevator on each floor ... Our room was spacious, had all the necessary amenities, beautiful antique furniture and felt the "old charm". No complaints about cleanliness, noise or whatever else. All the staff members we engaged with were extremely polite and helpful, but the real star is signora Virginia, I believe she is the Head of Catering or holds a similar position. Gracious and elegant, she greets you with her friendly smile and you immediately feel at home in this marvelous and huge breakfast salon, or wherever else you meet this lady. We would like to thank all the Hotel Plaza team for making our New year break unforgettable, and we hope to be back to your hotel when we are next time in Rome.

Worst customer service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 months ago

Definitely not a 5star hotel and not worth 600€ a night. Room was small and needs renovation, old carpet which made my socks dirty, old air conditioning/ heating system with the switch on the wall which seems not to be working. Visited in January and room and bathroom was very cold due to single glazed windows, you can feel cold from the windows. Bathroom very outdated, no shower just the bathtub and when you are having shower you just make all bathroom wet. Also couldn’t was my hair due to no shower. Not the best hairdryer and old scratched toiletries bottles, feels gross when I see that someone was using them before me. Walls are thin and you can hear conversations next door. When we arrived, I was shocked to realise that I have no kettle in my room.m, as I had to make milk for my baby. When I was to call reception, I found that the phone is not working. I had to go and look for housekeeping in corridors. After I spoke to the lady, I waited 40 minutes in my room and nothing happened. I had to go and look for someone again. At the end my husband had to go to the reception to complain and only after that we got some hot water. Worst customer service. It was raining and I asked for an umbrella at the reception, I was surprised to find out that they’ve “run out”. Havent seen a single guest with their umbrella and hotel wasn’t even fully booked so I believe they just don’t have it. Breakfast was okay however asked for a fried egg and been charged for that. No iron in the room and they also don’t provide it so would recommend to travel with your own unless you want to pay 15-50€ per item for ironing services. Terrace on top of the hotel was also outdated and does not look like the pictures on the website.
