Reviews for Mecenate Palace Hotel

A hidden gem of a bistro tucked inside Mecenate Palace Hotel!

After visiting the tomb of Pope Francis from Santa Maria Maggiore, we looked for a nice lunch. Russell and Dianne, hotel staff, greeted us kindly and invited us to try their dishes. We did, and what a pleasant surprise! The service was excellent! The food! Yup! Better than the ones we tried from Trastevere! Spaghetti Amatriciana was perfect! The bacon was crunchy, and the sauce had the right amount of thickness and richness! The Pinsi Romana Focaccia con crudo was the best! The crunchiness of the crust and the slightly thicker prosciutto freshly cut and a little bit of basil was heaven! I'll be coming back here, if ever I made my third trip to Rome!

It feels like home to us!

We stayed at Residenza Mecenate, which is a property managed by Mecenate Palace Hotel for a week as our home base to explore Rome during our pilgrim to Holy Doors. It is nicely located near one of the churches, which is also a resting place of the late Pope Frances. Also, within walking distance from Termini Station and Metro. The room is very spacious, clean and has everything that we need. We really enjoyed our stay and will love to stay here again if we come and visit Rome again in the future.

A good base for sightseeing in Rome

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

The hotel is well positioned for sightseeing, about 15 minutes walk from the Colloseum and very near one of the stops on the hop on hop off bus tours. The roof terrace is beautiful with incredible views for breakfast and dinner but be warned, drinks are pricey. It's true that the rooms are dated but one advantage of that was that we had a bath - a rare find now in modernised hotels. The safe was clunky and some of the numbers not easy to use. I wouldn't call it luxury accommodation but the downsides were outweighed by the convenience of the location and the views from the breakfast terrace. The hotel staff were very helpful arranging transfers for us, particularly Marco.

Not for us

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Must start by pointing out that Iglu cruises booked this hotel for us as we were sailing out of Citiavecchia. It would not be somewhere we would normally select. Our preference would always be more modern and open with plenty of room. Mecenate palace is old, sadly we got a tiny room on 3rd floor, no light, no room for our suitcases, bit old and worn. Depressing. Room had no usb sockets and not a single accessible socket to place an adapter. Not a smart tv, it was tiny. Not a single English speaking tv channel not even any news. Bathroom was small but functional and a good shower. Air con was also good. Location is okay but surrounded by a lot of graffiti and vagrants begging in the local area. Breakfast on the top floor via 26 steps was quite limited.Nice breads. Coffee had no flavour.Scrambled eggs, bacon and green beans/spinach was the extent of hot food, which was actually tepid.Poor quality yogurts. Fresh Fruits were lovely. Unfortunately we witnessed one poor gentleman fall through a floor board in the seating area and actually the floor had fallen through in 2 places. Receptionists and staff were lovely. We stayed for 2 nights, 1 day, but had it been any longer we would have moved hotels. One very slow lift available for everyone. Probably not the hotel for the most elderly, infirm or us.

3 days in Rome, a trip of a lifetime!!

My daughter, granddaughter and I loved your hotel. We spent 3-nights there. It was so clean and comfortable. The beds were very comfortable and clean. The staff were exceptional and very friendly. I'll stay here again if I return to Rome. The breakfast and coffee were great. So many choices to choose from. Great centrally located so we could walk everywhere. Took the subway when needed. Didn't care for the subway as it was too crowded. Our view from the rooftop was awesome. Right across from St. Mary's Basilica.
