One Night in Rome, a Lifetime Memory

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

We stayed for just one night—an impromptu Roman getaway—and were absolutely blown away. Palazzo Manfredi upgraded us to a spectacular Colosseum Suite in the annex building, complete with a balcony that felt like a private theatre to ancient history. The welcome was pure VIP: a chilled bottle of champagne, nibbles, Acqua di Parma amenities, and one of the best showers I’ve had in any hotel (proper pressure, too). Breakfast was just as impressive—multilingual service that switched seamlessly between Italian, English and Polish, and a great mix of buffet options with à la carte dishes cooked to perfection. The views from the terrace are just… stupid good. Like, can’t-make-this-up good. The Front Desk Manager was excellent—genuinely warm and full of great local tips that helped us avoid the obvious spots and eat and drink like Romans. We ended our night sipping pre-mixed cocktails from the minibar in our pyjamas on the balcony, staring at the Colosseum. One of those surreal, cinematic moments you quietly hope to have when you travel. We only stayed a night, but it will stay with us for a long time.

Our second trip here has been unbelievably bad.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

This is our second stay at Palazzo Manfredi and our first stay was outstanding. This stay has been a nightmare. We arrived and everything was great. We booked a suite overlooking the collesium. We checked in at 8pm and immediately went out for dinner and drinks. When we got back to the room about midnight, it was a bit warm, so we turned down the AC and went to bed. I woke up at 4am and the room was approaching 80 degrees. I called the front desk and they sent someone up to look. There was understandably nothing they could do about it at the time, so they moved gave is the key to th room next door to sleep in comfort. When I woke up the next morning, I enquired and told me they would be looking at it. When I spoke to them about 11, they told me they sent a technician to the room, but since we were in there, they didn’t want to disturb us. I’m not sure if that is accurate, since we had been in the room to retrieve a few necessities. I’m bewildered why you wouldn’t just knock and ask to look at the AC. An hour later they said an outside technician was coming. We went out to explore some sites in Rome. I called a few hours later and was told the room was still not ready, but they had another room above ours that was equivalent to our original. I told them we would head back and repack to move to the new room. We got back about 45 minutes later and that room is no longer available, the gave it to another guest. The original room still does not have air conditioning, and a technician still has not arrived and it’s now 3 pm. I understand that air conditioners break and it is beyond the hotels control. However there has not been one proactive communication from the hotel. Every update is because I have inquired. Shockingly poor service given how good our first experience was a few years ago. Too bad there are not 0 stars.

Spectacular but needimprvements for the price paid

Nice location with a fantastic view over the coliseum. We really felt that we were part of history having a view from our balcony over the gladiators 'training facility' ruins. Concierges and restaurant staffs were very helpful and competent. However, the food of the restaurant is not to the standard of a Michelin star and is overprice -- although, the view is spectacular. We had a lot of ants in ourroom (penthouse) which is very abnormal for that type of room... We had to do it so we had a very nice stay

Hotel Stay before our cruise

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We give this a 5. We stayed in an apartment. It was walking distance to attractions and restaurants. Very nice accommodations. We ate breakfast overlooking the Colosseum and it was the best view and very good food. Staff was friendly and assisted in setting up transportation from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the Cruise ship. Very reasonable price as well. Highly recommend!

Horrific Experience – Stay Far Away

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We booked the Man Freddy Luxury Hotel in Rome expecting a calm, high-end boutique experience. What we got instead was absolute chaos, zero hospitality, and a level of rudeness I’ve never encountered at any hotel — especially not one this expensive. About 20 minutes after we checked in, an enormous protest came barreling down the street outside. We’re not from Europe, so we were understandably alarmed. Doors to the hotel were wide open, people were screaming, and the entire building was shaking. It felt like we were in the middle of a riot — absolutely no communication or warning from the hotel whatsoever. When we rushed to the front desk for help, the man working there completely dismissed us, saying, “Oh, they’re just dancing.” Dancing? People were shouting, the building was trembling, and guests were visibly panicked — and this was the best explanation we got? Not even a sorry or an ounce of empathy. We were told, "Everything on this street shakes. There's nothing we can do. Get over it." The attitude was shocking. Things only got worse. That same dismissive, rude tone carried through the entire stay. At cocktail hour, which we had a reservation for, we were pushed to the back of the room despite arriving early. When we politely asked to sit closer, we were told flatly no, without reason. We tried ordering common cocktails — nothing complicated — and the server looked confused, not knowing what they were. When the food was brought to us, she spilled it directly on my leg and didn’t even acknowledge it. The next morning, I stepped outside briefly, then came back in to ask about getting a taxi. The woman at the desk looked at me with disgust and asked, “Do you stay here?” I was staying in one of their most expensive rooms. Her tone was rude and accusatory. I asked how to get a taxi — she said nothing, then walked off and disappeared for 15 minutes. The “concierge” service is a joke. The staff is untrained, unhelpful, and completely lacking in basic hospitality or respect. We spent thousands of dollars expecting boutique quality, and instead were met with contempt and chaos. If you value safety, service, or even just basic courtesy, avoid this hotel at all costs. It is absolutely not worth the money — and one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had while traveling.
