Reviews for Jewel Paradise Cove Beach Resort & Spa

Jewel Paradise Cove is really a jewel!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 10 hours ago

This was our first stay at the Jewel but our sixth time in Jamaica. Previously, our favorite resort was Secrets St. James, but based on reviews, it sounded like Secrets was no longer as good as before. So we decided to try the Jewel for our 11 night stay. We LOVED the small size of the resort. You could easily walk from one end to the other in as little as 5 minutes. We do not like those HUGE resorts, often with multiple hotels sharing the same property. The buildings only have 3 floors, and do not have elevators. We were in room 329 on the 2nd floor of building 3. It was a great location, we could almost smell the coffee from the coffee place! Our balcony overlooked the Emerald Lagoon pool, which we never swam in. Having buildings closely all around it, that pool is quite shaded (good for those that want shade!) Room was perfect, and we had the walk-in shower. Some rooms have a tub/shower but the renovated ones have the walk-in shower. AC was great. First night was too cold, but we adjusted it to our liking. Our only complaint was people smoking on their patio or balcony and in areas of the resort not designated for smoking. There are two other pools: the largest one is the main pool, with the Sunken Treasure swim-up bar. The other one is ocean-front, but much smaller. It also has a swim-up bar, and the Aquamarina grill is there also if you don't want to go far to get something to eat! The food was good throughout the resort, service for the most part was fantastic. Besides the buffet, the resort has Platinum (ocean-front a la carte), Moonstone (Italian a la carte), Jade Samurai (teppanyaki tables & a la carte sushi), Aquamarina grill (open 11am to 2am), a pizza place (only open from 12:30 to 6pm), a jerk chicken shack, and a coffee place. We are not typically buffet eaters for dinner, and the Aquamarina grill only has a few tables (outdoor around the pool). They served burgers, fish & chips, wraps. More of a lunch thing. So we found we were alternating between the two à la cartes. Depending on which one was open. It was low occupancy (less than 50%) so often at least 1 of them was closed. Sometimes the buffet was the only option. During our 11 nights, we ate twice at the teppanyaki (the only restaurant that requires a reservation). The first time at teppanyaki was better than the second, although we had the same chef both times, she was more entertaining the first time. But with that type dining, the experience also depends on the other individuals sitting around the table. Platinum is a nice romantic setting, and we enjoyed all 4 of our dinners there. It is an open style restaurant, ocean-front, and we found we always left with a few bug bites. Moonstone was our favorite, and we ate there 4 times (including our anniversary). It is indoors, but not air conditioned. They made our anniversary feel special with balloons on our chairs, and "happy anniversary" desert. For waiters, they all worked hard to ensure we felt special, but a few went the extra distance to make us feel like royalty: Rafoy, Lincoln, and Tevin - we appreciate you! For the bar staff, honorable mention goes to Tamique (sunken treasure bar) and Terry-Ann (pool/beach service). On the days Terry-Ann was off, we saw a noticeable decline in pool bar service. There are two beach sections: the smaller one is a narrow beach (only steps to the water!) with around 20 lounge chairs, all of which are in the shade. That beach was great for snorkeling, so bring your mask! The larger (main) beach is on the other side of the resort (literally a 5-minute walk) and has a greater number of lounge chairs, the smoothie hut & jerk chicken shack. We never tried to jerk shack as it only opened at 1pm and did not open everyday. The closures are not posted, so you would only find out of it's open when you get there. We preferred the larger beach, because there were far more chairs and more sun. The Jewel staff are wonderful! They work so hard, and want you to be happy. They seem genuinely thankful of any tips you leave. We were surprised at many others not tipping, but we tipped for all meals, most drinks, our room maid, and mini-fridge attendant. Even just $1 made them smile wider, and we loved how they put their hand on their heart in a way of showing appreciation. The resort is beautifully maintained. Yes, the rooms may be a little bit dated, but nothing is worn or having you get the impression you are staying in a run-down place. It's just not ultra modern. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with colorful flora. If you miss your pet, there are probably about a dozen cats roaming the property. Some are super friendly! We were there 11 days, during which it was very low occupancy. Staff told us they had never seen it that quiet. We hope to return to this wonderful resort, and revisit the wonderful people that work there. If Jamaica is ever in the cards again, we will surely stay at the Jewel!

Hidden Gem with amazing staff! Gather some friends and come visit

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

I’ve been to Jamaica over 125 nights and stayed at many places. This little gem of a resort is our favorite. The people at this resort are the best of the best. Friendly, welcoming, inviting, fun, and accommodating. Where do I start? The entertainment staff is great! Always some sort of beach/pool games going throughout the day. Great evening entertainment. We had a bonfire on the beach. Bartenders are always friendly. Don’t forget to visit Janice. Watersports people are chatty and friendly. The restaurant staff go above and beyond to make your experience memorable. Great place! Come and bring friends, you won’t regret it.

I can’t sleep the music is so damn loud every night in fact just loud loud all day all night like please shut those speakers off I’d like to hear the ocean instead of someone on a microphone broadcasting every mundane little thing or some music I don’t like!

We stayed for 2 nights and it was a shame we couldn’t stay for longer. Thought the service in general the staff was just brilliant. Found them to be very helpful and nothing was too much for them which was nice. Overall I think the hotel was clean and the food was good

Wonderful Guest Experience ( Ms Janice Walter’s)

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Jewel Paradise Cove was a great stay as we celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary. The best part of the trip was from Janice at the main large pool bar. My husband and I waited for her shift to start and when her shift ended it was like the party was over. Being in the customer and F&B service, I know great customer service when I experience it. Janice’s level of professionalism and customer service would be the main reason to come back to this location. Ms Janice should be training the other servers and bartenders whose level of service were not up to a resort standard. When a guest pays to get away an enjoy themselves there should be quality service. The main buffet service is very odd. It takes 20 minutes to get Tea or coffee and you can’t find a server so you end up asking someone else who isn’t in your section. The jester court service on our first day was great food fantastic! We went back on the 3rd day and the service was horrible food still great. The server was rude. Janice Walters made our entire trip simply by providing genuine top level customer service and making Jamaica feel like a home away from home. We also had an amazing massage on the resort it is a must! Thank you Jewel Paradise Cove for allowing Janice to be what we and many other guest felt was your main attraction in making us feel special. We will back this year to see Janice! Sorry it took me so long to post the review!
