Overall Stay We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Old Course Hotel and had a lovely weekend. The atmosphere and surroundings were excellent, very quiet and peaceful in a great location, the hotel was very clean, and we particularly enjoyed the spa facilities. Dining Experience There were, however, a few disappointing issues given the hotel’s reputation and price point. During dinner, dietary requirements were not followed, as an octopus amuse-bouche was served despite clearly stating no seafood. The menu variety was also somewhat limited, although we appreciate that visiting in February may have affected seasonal options. At breakfast, service was slow and inconsistent. Tea took over 40 minutes to arrive despite asking twice, and toast never came even after requesting it again. The bar and views from the 4th floor are exceptional and great for relaxing and people watching. Special Occasion We later learned that a note had been added to our booking to acknowledge my birthday, as it was my birthday weekend. Unfortunately, nothing was mentioned or done during our stay, which was disappointing. Room The room was very nice and the bed was extremely comfortable with nice selection of coffee and tea. The bathroom was showing its age a little with a loose tap and the mirrors were beginning to deteriorate around the edges. Final Thoughts While these may seem like small issues, they did detract slightly from what should have been a seamless experience especially at the cost

Just finished a beautiful overnight to celebrate my birthday. They really celebrated us well especially as a newly married couple. They went above and beyond in the little touches to make us feel really special. Robert at luggage services was very helpful always checking in on us and asking if we needed tips or help booking things. I really felt looked after. We booked an Eden Suite but were upgraded to an Old Course Suite which has absolutely stunning views of the sea. The bath tub was so luxurious to just sit and enjoy. You can really tell they constantly upgrade and maintain everything as there was maintenance going on when we were there. The spa that was just refurbished was absolutely incredible. I loved the foam sauna and we enjoyed the snow and sauna experience we booked separately.

We were greeted by reception staff Lucy and Elena . They were very helpful , apart from staff at the gate . We had asked for championship kings room, they upgraded to a suite. At reception there is water with orange in it as well as Prosecco as greeting drink . There is complimentary electric car charging . . I left key at gym , they just gave a new one

We booked an overnight dinner bed and breakfast. Disappointed that the room didn’t have a walk in shower when I asked to change I was told it would cost £50. I thought being an IPrefer member I would get an upgrade. Then dinner was awful. The choice wasn’t good. The restaurant was freezing. We were then charged for truffle fries when we had plain fries. Where are you the waitress was asked about this she said that she didn’t have a button for plain fries. We’ve been many times in the past but after this experience we won’t be back.

Our stay was a gift from my partner for Valentine's weekend. On the plus side, our room was ready earlier than the official check-in, the complimentary Prosecco on arrival was a nice touch and delicious and the staff who greeted us on arrival were also lovely and welcoming. Unfortunately after this, things started to slide. The Room: On first impressions, very nice and clean, although looking a bit tired round the edges. There were a few niggles in the room, namely, the shower controls were loose, the toilet intermittently failed to flush and for some reason the television volume was set extremely low and we couldn't change it - it sorted itself in the morning and the TV reception was not great. Small things I know, but this is a 5 star hotel with a five star price tag. We ate in the main restaurant in the evening and the food was ok, nothing special. There was no atmosphere. We were on a Dinner bed and breakfast deal so we were allowed two courses - and had to pay extra for a third course and coffee. I was not impressed enough with the food to want to pay even more for desert or coffee. Breakfast was disappointing. Maybe it's me, but for a five star hotel it felt too much like a cheap canteen, having to help yourself to nearly all of it. The staff, although polite, were overwhelmed by the numbers of diners so there was no follow up at your table to check on coffee and toast top ups, The food was ok, however, I ordered the eggs benedict and was presented with one solitary egg on bacon on a half muffin with a small hint of hollandaise sauce on top - a child portion. Overall, I was underwhelmed by the experience of staying here. I may be being a bit harsh, however, this is a five star hotel in a phenomenal location with a five star price to match. I can't put my finger on the exact reason for my disappointment, but it is probably a combination of all the little things (tired room, average food, no atmosphere, overwhelmed staff.) that should not happen when paying these prices. I think the Hotel definitely needs a re-think and get back to offering a far more personal experience, rather than trading on their name and location. Unfortunately I won't be back.
