A 5* Hotel with excellent staff

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

We attended the hotel for an overnight to celebrate my 50th Birthday. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by the receptionist, told all about the hotel and upgraded, given a late check out and use of the spa as well as the leisure Club. We were offered a Glass of Fizz which I thought was a lovely gesture. On arrival in our beautiful room which had lovely views over the golf course they had written a lovely card for my birthday. In addition, a gorgeous box of chocolates and an invite to request 2 glasses of champagne and canapés to be delivered to the room. I do believe it’s all the extra personal touches that make the service and hotel extra special and we will definitely return and would highly recommend to others. We enjoyed a drink at the Road Hole bar prior to-dinner. The meal which was part of our overnight package (£60 each towards dinner) was fabulous. The staff were so attentive and friendly. The food was beautifully presented and definitely worth a visit. Once again the staff at breakfast were so lovely and we enjoyed all the options and a nice glass of mimosa. Overall a fabulous very relaxing stay and the staff definitely make the hotel.

A contemporary take on Scottish hospitality in a classic location - you don’t need to be a (keen) golfer to enjoy it!

The OCH is relatively modern, having been built on the site of the former St Andrews railway station. The good news is that it embraces this with a refreshing contemporary feel - you also don’t need to be a keen golfer to enjoy its excellent location. Rooms are nicely presented - well worth trying to secure a sea view room (even numbers I recall) with contemporary Scottish feel. Restaurants and bars on the top floor have amazing views. Menu is also contemporary takes on Scottish favourites - again refreshing and welcome. Service is attentive and welcoming Spa has just been remodelled and is excellent - a real stand out moment of our visit All in all, a really good balance of traditional and contemporary that we’d highly recommend. We’ll be back

BIRTHDAY WEEKEND RUINED

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

i booked the old course as a combined birthday celebration as my wifes birthday is within a week of mine. on arrival we checked in , was given a complimentary prosecco , told we had been upgraded and our cases had been taken to the room. as we went into the lovely room we noticed right away that it was frozen , i tried too reset temp to no avail, so we decided to go to jiggers while someone looked at this, after jiggers went up to main bar and sat with a wine looking at the views , out table sat with previous customers linen napkins on the table for about 45 mins not standard of cleanliness I would expect IN A "5 STAR HOTEL ". After drinks we went back to room to change for dinner , room was still like a fridge. phoned reception and asked for a heater this arrived as did an engineer to look at this , engineer informed us heater would not work as it would keep tripping the air con on .we went for dinner and left heater to see if it would work After having a fantastic meal in jiggers , with excellent staff (even got us a drink each for birthday) , we headed back to room only to once again realise room was still like a fridge. we went to reception informed them and they moved us to a nice warm room ground floor we were happy now we could get heat but bye this time i was so frustrated 9.30 i retired to bed , BIRTHDAY WEEKEND DISASTER. In the morning we decided to just go for breakfast and check out as soon as we could , could not be bothered with spa as the place had sucked the life out of me BREAKFAST - well here I go again , got seated with coffee and toast , ordered a poached egg from ala carte menu it arrived went up to get items from buffet all looked good apart from very fatty bacon undercooked , sat back down to enjoy . eh no that did not happen ever item was slightly warm at best so left most . we were never offered extra toast more coffee or even approached to ask how everything was so we went back to room got cases and headed to check out. on check out we got a manager but im sorry i was not impressed with him either , he informed us remote checks had been done (engineer wo we seen never said anything about this , ) basically tried to tell us the room was fine. on addressing other issues he just flippantly said ok noted. He never once said sorry to us about any issues i booked this having stayed 4 times previously and all stays were good , I will never ever go back there and since leaving i have heard from a handful off friends who also are underwhelmed bye the place There a good few places in St Andrews and surrounding area that are far better than the old course NEVER AGAIN HOTEL service 6 jiggers inn service 10 manager 1 receptionist 1 ps i am sending a complaint to Kohler

Treat yourself to the Old Course Hotel - and take the dog!

What can I say about the OCH. It’s one of our favourite places to go and we do, about once a year. This visit was as good as ever. We had our 7 month old Scottie puppy with us so we stayed in a Champion course room where they allow for a dog. These rooms are gorgeous, for the human as well as the dog. High ceiling, large room, upscale bathroom, quiet part of the hotel, and your very own glass back door that opens onto a dog-friendly outdoor grassy area. And you are right off the 17th. My husband loved the modern shower that allowed you to choose between a single, direct water stream, or two shower heads that came out at either side! The puppy loved his very own dog bed, treats, dog toy and bowls.

Disappointed

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Although we didn't stay at the hotel we did eat in the restaurant. unfortunately we were exceptionally disappointed with our experience. The food quality was average, the service was not quite on point and overall just not to the expected standard. We were on vacation and this was meant to be one of the highs but turned out to be a low. I'm sure they could raise their standards but not there just now.
