Reviews for Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa

Listen to customers

We stayed at this hotel a couple of times after lockdown. It was dated but there was nowhere else to go. They kept increasing the prices so we have not been back since. There is little outside space and the roof terrace was not available for both the years we visited. We have started to receive e-mails despite blocking them. Do they not realise customers will not pay their prices?

The Old Course Hotel an expected Upscale Property

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

The Old Course Hotel is an excellent upscale property with attentive staff, beautiful facilities, and a prime location. The overall feel reminded me of Pebble Beach—elegant, comfortable, and polished—but not necessarily unique beyond its historic setting. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed, with truly outstanding bathrooms featuring marble finishes, Kohler fixtures, and even an electronic push-button shower controller. Daily breakfast was a highlight, with a generous buffet and full menu service included. However, dinner at the restaurant was a disappointment—expensive for what was served and only average in quality. With so many great options in town, I’d recommend exploring elsewhere for evening meals. While staying at The Old Course Hotel, doing forget to stop and have a pint at The Jigger Inn or playing The Himalayas putting course. What really sets this hotel apart is its history and location. Rooms overlook the legendary Old Course, with golfers teeing off and walkers crossing the fairways. Standing beside the massive, deep bunkers or walking across the famous Swilcan Bridge is an unforgettable experience you’ve likely only seen on TV. That connection to golf’s most iconic course is where the Old Course Hotel truly shines.

Great Location, Average Hotel

If you are looking for a luxury Hotel, this is not it! Very busy, tired Hotel. We did have a great view over the Old Course . The Hotel did have a wonderful concierge David that was a wealth of knowledge! I had an appointment at the Spa while my Husband golfed and it was not opened yet so my massage was in a guest room! (which they never told me )

Beautiful hotel and golf course

Visited here this week for a 1 night stay. Did not have a room that overlooked the course but was still a great experience. The staff were professional and courteous and the town that’s a short walk away was so beautiful also. We ate dinner at the restaurant in the hotel and it was wonderful. We also ordered breakfast room service the following morning as we had an early flight out of Edinburgh. Overall wonderful experience and would recommend.

The location is second to none in the world!

I have stayed at this hotel before on a work conference and so knew it was pretty special - the hotel is 5 star luxury for wealthy (mostly american) golfers at the home of golf - but the setting was really what i went for, and in fact, my partner who hadnt stayed there before - or been to st andrews - felt that there was no seaside like it or as good in the UK. We had interconnecting rooms for our family of 5 and they were large rooms with amazing bath tubs, my only slight disappointment was that we hadnt paid extra to be on the 'right' side of the hotel with the view of the sea! We should have done that but were only there 1 night. Also, we were with children and that was highly unusual there, we saw a few children in the pool as we were leaving but it is mostly American golfers, which we loved! The pool was nice, although I think that the better pool was closed for a refurb which is a bit disappointing, and there were workmen outside our window as we were on the first floor overlooking the roof. Breakfast was lovely and the roadhole bar very chic and intimate at night with the best view! Staff were generally great, and my only disappointment was dinner - even though we booked a week before there was no room at any of the 3 restaurants within the grounds of the actual hotel, there was only space at their sister restaurant up the road at the Hams hame - i booked with the hotel and so didnt know what to expect when i arrived but you are in a sub - basement so no view which was disappointing enough but then our kids starters arrived and their mains, which they had finished by the hour later that our steaks took, i did mention to the waitress when she asked how our food was that we werent happy about the length of time that our steaks took but she didnt offer anything off our bill or a drink as some sort of apology and just said 'yeah sorry' which is a bit poor as my appetite had actually gone by the time my steak arrived and i couldnt eat my chips and forced myself to eat the actual steak, which i guess left a slightly sour impression of an otherwise amazing place!
