The Collector - Luxury Inn & Gardens

I truly have never had better service or accommodations any time, any place. This is my third stay, but the first since I lost my husband. We both loved it at The Collector. I was fortunate enough to stay in the oldest house of the complex, Prince Murat, built in 1790. The tour with their special docent, Charlie, was also the third I participated in and one can truly learn something new each time. He was a delight! I wanted for absolutely nothing and all the staff was helpful from room services to the front desk to the parking attendants. I hope it is not another four years before I return again. The Collector is a magical place in St. Augustine!

The price and website say, “upscale luxury boutique hotel.” Reality is a 2017 property that is not upscale in 2026! • The location and setting is an easy walk to many sites and is overall unique, but overpriced for mid-level accommodations. • It’s time for: room furnishings to be refreshed, mattresses to be replaced, a replant of garden areas that have died back, new bikes that are actually usable, fountains to be full with fresh water, and the funky smell inside The Well to be corrected or covered up with candles. • Second floor stairs-only guest rooms should be noted prior to arrival or rearranged if staff notices accommodation may be helpful. • The breakfast buffet choices are similar to a corporate chain hotel. In-room snacks presentation is thrown together and not noted if they’re complimentary. A lovely surprise was ice cream sandwiches and creamsicles available in the lobby. • Kind, customer service was received by the young men at the bell stand, in addition to the daytime concierge. • A brief conversation with upper management was cold and quick, as if respect was due him. We will be visiting in St. Augustine again this year, in December 2026, yet not returning to The Collector “Luxury” Inn & Gardens.

Great location, walking distance to everything. Charming grounds with fountains, gardens, trees with Spanish moss. Variety of rooms in old homes. Pool and bar central in property. Staff courteous and professional. Breakfast included. Valet parking.

My friend and I took an impromptu road trip to St Augustine for the first time from Miami. We stayed only for one night, but we absolutely love the hotel and will be back! The bed and pillows were so comfortable, the staff is incredibly friendly, the grounds are clean and beautiful, and the continental breakfast was very good. Despite being what looks to be older houses, they are completely renovated inside and the bathroom bathrooms are beautiful. My only suggestion would be to make sure you bring water to the hotel room since there is none provided, only a few sodas and snacks. We will definitely be coming back to explore more of the city and stay at this location.

Perfect location just blocks away from all you want to see in the historic section…yet quiet and peaceful. The staff from valet to front desk were extremely kind and helpful. The property is lovely. The salt water pool a peaceful retreat. Breakfast was more than you’d expect as well. Overall great experience and I’d happily return.
