Reviews for The Collector - Luxury Inn & Gardens

Beautiful place to stay, we’ll be back.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We recently spent three nights here. Everything was 5 star worthy. The staff were all very nice and helpful. The bed was very comfortable, the room was spotlessly clean. The grounds were well maintained and lovely. We took a tour with Charlie as he told us the fascinating history of the houses, property and all the garden ornaments (fountains, statues, walls, etc). The daily buffet breakfast is varied and plenty to get started with one’s day. The location is perfect, an easy short walk to area attractions and activities yet quiet and peaceful among the calming gardens. The fire pits in the evenings and the pool to cool off during the day add the cherries on top. There is so much to see, do and eat in St Augustine that we will definitely be back and without question we will stay at The Collector again.

One-Of-A-Kind Gem

This property is one-of-a kind and an absolute gem. I can’t imagine anyone, any place being able to replicate what this Inn offers. Several unique, historic buildings surrounded by wonderful gardens and landscaping decorated with items from around the world, managed by friendly and efficient staff entertaining guests in wonderfully appointed (and unique) guest rooms. And by the way, it’s within walking distance to all that Saint Augustine has to offer. We would return to The Collectors Inn without hesitation.

What a Wonderful Stay!

What a wonderful stay! My stay at the Collector Inn was wonderful. The staff was welcoming and accommodating. The Inn was quaint, and surrounded by beautiful vegetation. The rooms were clean and comfortable. No need for a car, as the Inn is located in downtown St Augustine. I hope to stay there again soon!

Handicapped Room Review

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Just a word of warning. My daughter and I needed a nice quiet escape for a few days. However, the noise level here was so bad we had to check out of the hotel after 1 night. We were on bottom floor and the people in the room above could be heard walking around until 2am. At 2 a.m. we called front desk, who said they would call the upstairs room. Then the noise got even worse and lasted until 4 a.m. We were in a so called "handicapped" room. The bathrooom door kept getting stuck in both the open and closed position dragging on the floor. You had to almost kick it to get it unstuck. The towel bar kept falling down when you put a towel on it. The room was very small. The bed frame did not fit the mattress and the frame protruded out into the room by almost a foot. There was a free standing machine taking up space on the floor that made such a loud noise when it was running that you could not hear the TV. I assume the machine was some sort of dehumidifier or air cooler. We had to turn it off at night because it was so lound, but then the room got very stuffy and warm. At check in, we parked in a FL handicapped spot with a Florida handicapped hang tag next to hotel office, but we were told by the front desk that they needed to keep our car keys because we could not stay in the handicapped spot. They said we needed to have valet take our car and we would need to have valet retrieve our car from their private lot. There was no valet service to help with our luggage at check in and I use a walker. The grounds have cobblestone walkways that made it had to use the walker while also trying to drag everthing across the grounds to our building. We had a front porch on our building and we thought that you could sit and see the grounds as we were next to the pool, but there was a solid wooden wall so that you could not see out from the porch. Next to our building was a driveway where large trucks were parked and had engines running for hours, so not a very relaxing location. The best part of the stay were the gardens in the compound of buildings, but that was about it. When checking out the manager said he would not require that we complete our 3 day stay. They normally have a no cancellation policy. He also said that the night manager should have taken additional actions to remedy the noise complaint. Upon our leaving to see some sights in St. Augustine he said we could use the hotels wheel chair for the afternoon. He was cordial but I would not recommend the "handicapped" room if you are a truly handicapped person or if you want a quiet room to relax in. I took a video in the room, if needed in the future, if there is any dispute of these complaints. I am not posting the video on this site.

Our new favorite place!

The Collector Inn is a historical gem! My husband and I spent 3 nights here on our very first trip to St. Augustine. It is a beautiful, quaint, private, adults only (16+) luxury hotel. Check-in was easy and efficient with Garrett who offered us a complimentary drink at The Well Bar. Regina was so helpful, professional and friendly during the rest of our stay. We stayed upstairs in the Howell house and loved our room! We couldn't believe the amount of storage in the room. We really enjoyed lounging on our front porch. Jon, the bartender at The Well makes amazing drinks! We also enjoyed meeting sweet Aubrey on our last night at The Well. Breakfast is delicious and plentiful and the staff is so friendly. The location is perfect. You can walk to just about everything! If you get the opportunity to attend the property tour definitely take advantage! Charlie was so fun and knowledgeable and we learned so much! Also use the valet parking! You can't beat it and the staff is great. We can't wait to come back!!
