Pirates used to be a major concern for The Buccaneer – in the 17th Century, the great house had to be hidden in thick vegetation far from the eyes of roving marauders. A Danish baron turned it into a sugar mill in the 1700s, and in 1947 the Armstrong family opened small hotel where guests – called “continentals” – would make their own drinks and help rake the beach. In the years that followed, Lauren Bacall, Michael Jackson and Johnny Carson all graced the hotel register. Recall The Buccaneer’s colorful past with bright, traditionally appointed guestrooms and a bar menu of classic cocktails – Cruzan Confusion, anyone?

If acceptance is a rating then I did not and still do not feel like my children were accepted for trying to do yoga on the beach. Was going to go with a ‘good’ rating until my conversion with the owner/manager. I have 2 daughters-15 and 10-that regularly do yoga with me. We thought it would be fun to do it together on the beach. When we arrived at the class we were told by the instructor that it was full even though there were only 2-3 others there and 2 showed up after us and ‘kids aren’t allowed, only ages 16 and up’. Once I realized the vibe was off, she practically glared at me and my kids for having the audacity to show up to her class, I left. The ladies that arrived a little after us were allowed in. I wrote this on my review and Joel got back to me a few weeks later apologising and saying he would talk to the instructor. I sent a response back thanking him that if children aren’t allowed and that there are only a few spots that perhaps the schedule should reflect this when people show up so they’re not turned away. A week or so later I received another email this time accusing me of showing up late to a full class. It felt like I was on trial. I only wanted to point out my experience with this one person and now I’m the problem. I don’t understand why businesses ask about surveys and then work to make you feel like you did something wrong. So in summary it’s a typical resort-beautiful place, decent food yet overpriced, good food and beverage staff, clean rooms, and poorly managed activities. (I also had to call the front desk to get someone to open the snorkel gear shack because no one was in there at when they were supposed to be open). I hope the business takes this as an opportunity to work on this. I believe that’s the point of the review process.

The Buccaneer’s mission is for every guest to return and we will! We had a fabulous week here with family. The resort is spacious and gracious; casual and yet classy. Three beaches, three solid restaurants, games, fun, fire dancing and more. Great place for kids… great place for old kids. We will return!

The property is stunning and we were upgraded on arrival, which made for a great first impression. Walking the grounds and watching the fire dancers was a highlight. Unfortunately, the service didn’t match the setting. If you don’t reserve restaurants before you arrive, there may be nothing available to eat that night. We arrived at 3 PM and everything was already booked. Housekeeping was worse. The shower gel dispenser was broken and never replaced during our stay. At one point the water to the room stopped working in the middle of the day. Trash wasn’t removed, and it took six attempts over two days just to get someone to sweep the sand covered floors. We finally got a broom to sweep the room ourselves. After checkout the hotel repeatedly called about a small charge that hadn’t processed, even though I told them I would call back once I had reception. The repeated calls and lack of trust left a disappointing final impression. They keep loosing the my credit card number. Beautiful property, but the service does not match a **$900 per night** resort.

This was our third vacation to the peaceful Buccaneer. We return for our Anniversary celebration & spend ten days with them at the beautiful resort. It is an easy 15 minute drive from the airport. Upon arrival you are treated as a family member with the reception staff for a flawless check The complementary morning breakfast is delicious as you walk the buffets to choose your morning meal; while you get to enjoy the breathtaking view of the sea below. We always enjoy our stay at the Buccaneer. The staff is perfect in every way possible; making for a wonderful relaxing & peaceful vacation. We are already looking forward to our return to the Buccaneer next year!

We had a great stay at the Buccaneer resort! The staff was outstanding, and the rooms, grounds, and restaurants are all excellent. We also loved the beach area, so beautiful. I would highly recommend staying here if you are going to St Croix.

The Buccaneer in St. Croix was a place of casual elegance. We had an excellent waterfront room. The courteous staff sought to ensure our every need was met. The food was wonderful and the views are breathtaking.
