If Spice Island Beach Resort were a poem, it would be an ode to languorous tranquility. At this exclusive all-suite sanctuary on the Caribbean island of Grenada, you'll find that each seduction is deserving of its own sonnet. Enticing hammocks, fragrant lemon trees, private lawn gardens and individual pools are among the sensuous pleasures. From Olivers' Creole cuisine to cocktail parties at the owner's house, this intimate, family-run property is a balm for the spirit.

This was our second trip to Grenada, but our first stay at Spice Island Resort. My husband and I loved everything about the resort. We stayed in an immaculate Seagrapes suite with the beautiful Grand Anse beach just feet outside our door. The food was delicious. The service very good. The grounds of the resort were beautiful! We will return!

We were there for a week recently celebrating my husband’s 70’s birthday. For a Michelin star hotel their website is in desperate need of updating. My husband booked a beautiful beach front room and we erroneously assumed that we were getting a king size bed . Surprisingly when we got to the room it had two queen beds . Their website doesn’t let you specify that you want a king size bed and we were told by the manager that my husband needed to call to specify this request which is totally ridiculous. For over a thousand dollars a day we expected more . The manager informed us that there were no rooms available until the next day that she was going to have to downgrade us , I told her that we didn’t wanted to downgrade . To make a long story short that night we had to sleep in one of the queen beds . The next day they finally gave us a room with the king size bed but we had to wait until around 3:30pm , we only took the basic things needed out of our suitcase since we had to move to the other room the next day. By then we were both tense and upset . My husband didn’t do the all inclusive because we wanted to explore the island and the local cuisine. We did included breakfast which was very boring. Same menu everyday . We ate at Oliver’s the first night and it was over $500.00 US dollars . My husband had the tuna steak and I had the chicken those were the only two options for the main course , two appetizers , my husband had a glass of wine and I had the sparkling water . Dinner was okay but not great . After our mayor hiccup with the bed everything when smoothly, Great service from all the staff , they arranged all the taxi services and suggested the restaurants for us , made all the reservations and arranged a tour of the island . Eating at the local beautiful restaurants was never more than $180.00 for the two of us and I had lobster one night which was absolutely delicious. By the way we had a couple’s massage at their spa which was absolutely fantastic and surprisingly well priced . We won’t be back but I have to say that the ocean front room is one of the best we have ever stayed at.

Pros: good shower pressure, nice staff, great beach Cons: Everything else. We had high hopes for this self-reported "5 star" resort. When spending $1000+ per night for a room, you go in with high expectations. We started off our stay be first being sent 3 consecutive emails asking for our flight details. My wife provided these after the first email, but the emails continued. No big deal, but sloppy. When asked for our arrival time, we mentioned we'd get there around noon. Instead of an attempt to accomodate a slightly early arrival, we were told "early check in will be $350." Classy and hospitable! Upon arrival, we were informed that our check in would be not a minute sooner than 3:00pm. Nope. 40 minutes late, our room was ready. Upon being escorted to our room, the majority of the "property tour" was spent telling us how we'd be charged if we wanted anything typically included at a 5 star resort. Bottle of water in the room? 8 dollars. You want to order ANY item on the room service menu? That'll be an extra 30 dollars for a "tray fee." Upon entering our room, we were greeted by the view of an employee sitting DIRECTLY in front of our "view" about 15-20 feet away (see photo), periodically staring right into our room. Totally defeated the whole purpose of an ocean view. We were allowed to change rooms fortunately which was nice. The rooms themselves are a small step above a Holiday Inn Express. The walls are razor thin, and we were forced to listen to our neighbors TV late at night, even though it was at very reasonable volume and no fault of theirs. The screen doors are broken. The bathtub did not work as the drain would not seal properly and hold water. There are random curtains that don't close that separate the "bedroom" from the "living room" area, unclear their purpose. The TV was impossible to turn off, and we had to unplug it. The ceiling fan clinked and clanked away. Next, the food. Overpriced and underwhelming, and only offered at limited times. No dinner before 7pm, which is odd considering most people staying there were older and potentially wanting to get to bed earlier. There is a set menu each night, and you chose an app, a main, and a desert. If you are not on the "all inclusive plan" which we didn't sign up for as we like to keep options open, it is 140.00 USD EACH. At this price point, you'd expect Michelin experience. We tried it on Italian night. Minestrone soup was essentially a can of tomato soup with some cut up veggies. Eggplant parmesan was perhaps 4 total bites of food. Desert was a dry, bland piece of almond cake. Horrific value for the money. Breakfast also had its challenges. The "buffet" is a few plates of fruit that you have to let someone else serve to you, which seems totally unnecessary and atypical of 5 star resorts. Having someone serve you a slice of cantaloupe does not elevate the experience. There are some dry cereals and a few pastries. Again, very "Holiday Inn" continental breakfast vibe. You can order off a menu which is nice. BUT, the service is both slow and sloppy. Upon ordering an oat milk latte, was told there was no oat milk, so then changed to almond milk. No big deal. After drinking half of it, the waiter informed us "oh, just so you know that's mistakenly regular milk." We decided to order some toast. It came out after about 20 minutes, no butter or jam, just dry toast. We then asked for some butter. It never came after about a half hour. We ordered green juices. Never came after half an hour. We’d encourage anyone to spend a few extra minutes looking around the Caribbean and even Grenada itself for better options as there are many for $1000 plus per night. We spent 3 amazing days at Six Senses on the other side of the island for a similar price. Amazing food you can eat at any time, no "tray fee" for room service, bottled water included, pristine rooms, no staff sitting in front of your room, and you can still take a shuttle over to the Grand Anse beach if you want to check it out. It's a far superior option. Don’t waste your time here.

The service was over the top! I have to eat GF and Ron took very good care of me. One meal was better than the next. Every need was met, down to the cold wash cloths delivered while on the beach. Our Sea Grape room was 30 ft from the waters edge with a beautiful veranda complete with a comfy couch, and two padded loungers with an umbrella just two steps down. Overall the resort is very clean and well taken care of. Staff is very attentive and friendly. You can see this is a well oiled machine with a well trained staff. Our cab service was delayed so the bell hop drove us to the airport with his own car.

This resort came highly recommended by friends and ideal for what we wanted - all-inclusive beach resort for a "fly and flop" holiday. The location is excellent on the biggest beach in Grenada - all beaches are public but that was not really a problem as the beach is wide and the hotel facilities on the beach good and well managed. It can be a bit difficult to get into the sea when the waves are up as there is a ledge just into the sea. Beach and sea are clean. Access to St George's is easy if you wish to leave the resort and external noise only occasionally intrusive (a carnival one day and a very noisy "boose cruise" one Sunday). Atmosphere is a bit lacking - the occasional music evenings were very dated and not very "local" - let's have some reggae and calypso, please! The restaurants are very good (but pricy if you are not all-inclusive) - food in Olivers is very high class but could be a little more local-based in cuisine. The fresh fish in Catch of the Day was always excellent but breakfast was a bit bland. Staff were amazing - they called guests by name, were cheerful and friendly yet very professional. Nothing seemed to be too much to ask and they just got on with any request straight away. The staff around the pool and beach were particularly good at keeping up with the need for water and other drinks plus cold towels and iced-lollies, and also happy to chat about the island. The pool is small but clean and well-maintained with plenty of sun-loungers and towels at all times of day. The rooms are spacious and well-equipped with a good size bathroom (ours had a large spa tub and good size separate shower cubicle). The bed was very large and amazingly comfortable. Only a few criticisms: the house wines were fairly cheap and not especially good, although the staff keep you glass topped up very efficiently! The "Champagne" cocktails were, perhaps not surprisingly, made with cheap fizz and hence not really very pleasant. Stick with the house cocktails (and mocktails) which are good. Despite advertising changing rooms and showers for departing guests on the in-room information system, these were not available and the desk staff try to sell you a $350 extension to the room hire. This is really not acceptable as so many guest have late evening flights - every other good hotel/resort that I have stayed in offers a departure lounge with changing, showers etc. Hopefully, the management will address this lapse in standard of service. Overall, however, the resort is a very good place for a relaxing holiday with excellent accommodation, food and staff in a beautiful location. We plan to return, hopefully to find the minor criticism addressed by the management
