About the Hotel

Brimming with authentic Austrian charm, Hotel Goldener Hirsch, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Salzburg, is a cherished symbol of exceptional hospitality and celebrated tradition. Dating back to 1407, the property embodies an enduring symbiosis between original country house and luxury boutique hotel, woven into the very fabric of Salzburg life. Steeped in history, the hotel's petite proportions understate its significance as a cultural landmark, where the crossroads of music, art and cuisine intersect. Located in the Baroque heart of the historic center, Hotel Goldener Hirsch inhabits the fairy tale setting with natural grace. In the bijoux lobby, white-washed walls and leather furniture are offset with ancient arches and historic artefacts, like the hand-carved reception desk and heirloom wooden key case. Traditionally dressed associates, wearing uniforms reminiscent of national Tracht, welcome guests with a rare warmth that resonates across generations. Six centuries of history, the much beloved Goldener Hirsch style melds harmoniously with the most modern amenities. In 70 rooms and suites carefully curated antiques such as shoemaker's benches transformed into tables combine effortlessly with the latest televisions and coffee machines by Illy. Traditional "Fleckerlteppich" rugs complement the solid wood floors as well as hand-printed fabrics in pink, cornflower blue and red from the Salzburg firm Jordis. Refreshing sleep is assured in king-size and twin beds. Generously proportioned bathrooms in marble with porcelain by Villeroy & Boch offer shower or tub, or shower and tub. The view out onto Herbert-von-Karajan-Platz or Getreidegasse enchant, while soundproof windows ensure that rooms are always quiet.

Reviews for Hotel Goldener Hirsch, a Luxury Collection Hotel

Mid

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Let me give the hotel its due first, and there is plenty of it: the Goldener Hirsch holds one of the loveliest addresses in Salzburg, and the staff one meets are warm and unfailingly courteous. Had it been content merely to be charming, this would be a happier notice. But it bills itself as something grander, and grandeur is a promise one must keep. A gesture arranged well in advance to mark my wife's fortieth was forgotten; reminded discreetly mid-stay, I was assured it would be handled at once — and it was forgotten again, which takes a certain commitment. The promised IT man never came, the television and network were feeble, and milk arrived only after pursuit. One suspects two hotels: a charming one that answers the emails, and a forgetful one that runs the building. On money it shows not noblesse but its meter: throttled internet unless you pay extra, and €100 each way for the ten-minute "executive" run from the airport that a taxi does for €20. The bones are admirable — building, position, people. What is missing is reliability and largeness of spirit, which are rather the point of the word "Luxury." A good hotel, then; not, on this evidence, the five-star one on the door. I had resolved to say none of this — not at the desk, and certainly not online — lest it cast a shadow over my wife's birthday. The review exists for a single reason: the hotel would not stop soliciting it — by email, no less, the same machinery that could not convey a single message to our room. They wanted their review; here, at last, it is. Voilà.

Terrific Location with Excellent Staff

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Rating assumes the quirky non-standard old world charm rooms are acceptable, the hotel provides the greatest convenience relative to location near shopping, sights and restaurants. Service staff across reception, restaurant, housekeeping, luggage handling, are all excellent. Food wise in terms of breakfast and dinner was average. WiFi average. Recommended.

A True 5-Star Hotel

Goldener Hirsch supersedes every expectation you have. The room is luxurious with spacious cozy beds and music in the bath. Soft bathrobes and slippers, fresh flowers, and lighting on motion sensors- every detail makes it special. Yulia and Micael made our 3 night stay so easy by making reservations, calling taxis, and holding our bikes for us. We truly enjoyed our complimentary prosecco and homemade dessert from their bar. Goldener Hirsch staff deserve to be applauded! We will remember this stay forever! Thank you for making it so special! (Oh and I forgot to say that their location is superb! On a beautiful street in the Old Town.) 10/10 Best Hotel I’ve stayed at in Europe, hands down!

Dark room

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

We stayed for 2 nights and they upgraded us to a larger room, however, it was in the back of the building and so dark and gloomy and you could not open the curtains because people walking around in the hallway across could see into your window, so no privacy. Room was very disappointing, especially at that price and especially after I had specifically requested a higher floor room. Also, there was barely any wi-fi signal, but thankfully Paolo let me use a different room for a work zoom call that had fast wi-fi. All in all, it was a nice property but we got a really bad room albeit nicer rooms were available and I am Marriott Platinum. Service was great though.
