About the Hotel

Brimming with authentic Austrian charm, Hotel Goldener Hirsch, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Salzburg, is a cherished symbol of exceptional hospitality and celebrated tradition. Dating back to 1407, the property embodies an enduring symbiosis between original country house and luxury boutique hotel, woven into the very fabric of Salzburg life. Steeped in history, the hotel's petite proportions understate its significance as a cultural landmark, where the crossroads of music, art and cuisine intersect. Located in the Baroque heart of the historic center, Hotel Goldener Hirsch inhabits the fairy tale setting with natural grace. In the bijoux lobby, white-washed walls and leather furniture are offset with ancient arches and historic artefacts, like the hand-carved reception desk and heirloom wooden key case. Traditionally dressed associates, wearing uniforms reminiscent of national Tracht, welcome guests with a rare warmth that resonates across generations. Six centuries of history, the much beloved Goldener Hirsch style melds harmoniously with the most modern amenities. In 70 rooms and suites carefully curated antiques such as shoemaker's benches transformed into tables combine effortlessly with the latest televisions and coffee machines by Illy. Traditional "Fleckerlteppich" rugs complement the solid wood floors as well as hand-printed fabrics in pink, cornflower blue and red from the Salzburg firm Jordis. Refreshing sleep is assured in king-size and twin beds. Generously proportioned bathrooms in marble with porcelain by Villeroy & Boch offer shower or tub, or shower and tub. The view out onto Herbert-von-Karajan-Platz or Getreidegasse enchant, while soundproof windows ensure that rooms are always quiet.

Luxo e sofisticação no coração de Salzburgo

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

On my first visit to Salzburg, I couldn't have had a better stay. I felt very welcomed by the hotel staff, right from check-in. All the employees were very friendly and helpful. especially Anja, Paolo, and Wolfgang. The location is spectacular, and the classic Austrian style makes the atmosphere super cozy and romantic. The room was very spacious, comfortable, and beautiful. Can't wait to visit Salzburg again and enjoy this beautiful hotel.

Not a Luxury Collection property

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Visting Salzburg for the second time, we checked in to the Goldener Hirsch, also our second stay. We found the first stay to be adequate and this one to be less so. I’ll start by saying that I am Ambassador Elite with Marriott and will finish the year with over 150 nights at Marriott properties. We’ve stayed at numerous Luxury Collection properties over the years, including four on this trip alone. I booked two rooms, three nights each for our family as a paid reservation totaling $3,000+. This property is not a Luxury Collection property. Our stay began by being disappointed three times by the woman at reception. Strike one was her stating that because I was the only senior that the senior discount would only apply to one room, which was absurd given I booked the rooms under my Ambassador number at the same time and Marriott applied the rate to both rooms. Strike two was her being petty enough to hand me one chocolate bar as a "gift" (but only one) even though we had two rooms. Strike three was her telling me the breakfast benefit would only apply to one room (again, I'm paying for two rooms) because I was the only Ambassador elite guest. We just checked out of the Koenigshof Luxury Collection in Munich and there was never any discussion of the breakfast benefit only applying to one room - incredibly petty on this hotel’s behalf. The property itself, although in a great location on the fringe of central Salzburg, is very dysfunctional. You’ll read in the General Managers response to negative reviews (Putz-yes that’s his name) a constant reference to the age of the property. Again, not being of Luxury Collection caliber, this property would be better placed in the Autograph or Tribute tier of Marriott properties if the age of the property does not meet the standards. We’ve had very few stays at Luxury Collection properties that fail to meet standards – this is one. There were several benefits touted in our room – bidet, heated floors and towel rack – none of which worked in our room. The bathrooms were very dysfunctional. Our second rooms shower consisted of a handheld sprayer in the bathtub. Our shower was a glass enclosure installed as an afterthought slapped up against the bathtub. We had no turn down service on day two and had to call and request towels when we returned to the room at nine o’clock in the evening. When we expressed frustration to staff we received a note from GM Putz that we had the option of changing rooms. There is nothing more unaccommodating than having to back up three weeks of luggage to move mid-stay and basically managements way of saying too bad. Overall, the staff seemed petty and rude. This property is an example of Marriott’s declining value in hospitality space, as their standards (as indicated by this property) are wildly inconsistent and it is becoming increasingly clear that the inmates (properties) are running the asylum. The Ambassador Elite staff (Corporate) offers no value in reconciling issues. It’s amazing to me that Marriott can’t manage operational and facilities consistency yet always manages to have the “Book of Mormons” in every room. I would recommend exploring other options in Salzburg.

Enchanting hotel, great location for exploring Salzburg on foot

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This hotel is exactly what we were looking for-authentic, charming, centrally located for exploring Salzburg on foot. Great staff and nice bar/restaurant. We were very pleasantly surprised upon checking in at how ideal the locatiin was-on a "fancy street" which was great for shopping/window shopping, and people watching. Lots of restaurants and historic sites nearby as well. Felt very safe. The staff was very helpful in arranging dinner reservations, and securing city-pass tickets. The only downside, if its important to you, is no gym or spa but that wasn't an issue with us-we managed to get our steps in and if you wanted to get a spa day pass the front desk had a suggestion for us but we didnt follow up. Lots to see and do here-we spent 4 nights and it was perfect. I'd choose this again over the other options in town.

A Perfect Blend of International Standards and Local Charm

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I have lost count of how many times I’ve stayed at this beautiful hotel in the heart of Salzburg. It seamlessly combines the excellence of an international brand with the warmth and character of local hospitality. The entire team is exceptionally attentive, the rooms and facilities are always spotless, and the food is consistently delicious. Each stay feels truly special — a place I can recommend without hesitation.

A True Gem in Salzburg

From the minute we circled the hotel 3 times to figure out how and where to park to our check out it was thrilling. Great room, very modern and comfortable. music in the bathrooms and awesome tools and bedding and Customer service , it was one of the top hotels we have ever stayed at. Lobby bar was quaint ant great. Too bad they had a few very loud American tourists. Loved this hotel and the quality of the room was second to none. I have stayed at Four Seasons that did not have this great of a room. The restaurant was unreal too and they made it seem it was not the gourmet restaurant, but we thought it was spectacular.
