A beautiful location but our suite stank of sewage for days

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

We booked a suite with a ‘lakeside view’, but it was in the basement and ‘side’ really does mean a glimpse of the side of the lake, not of the immense lake itself. On arrival I paid the several thousands I had chosen to spend for our four nights there. Suite 102 - avoid it !!! Near the underground swimming pool which ememates a chemical smell and next to the spa in corridor with trolleys of dirty bedclothes parked outside the room - disgusting… Not a great start, but staying in a Rosewood in a suite all recently renovated encouraged me when I was booking. The staff of the hotel are universally lovely, willing, smart and polite. But the hotel has been built in a way that isn’t universally successful. They said all the suites are on the lower floor. The reception area smells of sewage and after breakfast on our first morning of four nights, I realised our suite stank of sewage. I mentioned it and the staff just nodded, said sorry and that maintenance would look at it. Second day, the same. Why should we have the sewage of dozens of other occupants polluting our room ? Is that healthy let alone pleasant or luxurious ? Third night it was really bad so forget the air conditioning, we slept with all windows open. ‘It is really cold’ said my husband at 3am - ‘no it isn’t’ - well of course it was cold on a mountainside but what else could we do ? Fourth day I really complained strongly and politely but there was no manager around to talk to. I spoke calmly to a nice young receptionist about it being disgusting, that she had to work in a space with the same problem, but we had to sleep in it and that any normal hotel would have a manager come to talk to me, people to clean the room vigorously, pot pourri in the room and an effort made. That night a bottle of cheap wine and a heap of cheese and meat was there after dinner. Not really what one wants after dinner - how about a scented candle or let’s be mature, an apology, some explanantion, attention, expression of contrition from the manager ? At checking out the next day, no note from the manager and nothing since. It was disgusting. The hotel should be ashamed and if the manager writes some appeasing note here about how much concern they feel, that will be utter nonsense and too late. Other guests had similar problems there. The manager did nothing to either fix the technical issues, to hide the smells or be polite to the clients in person. Simple answer, dont trust this arrogant management, and expect that your room might stink like a sewer. The manager didnt build the building, but they didn’t manage us guests. Shame on you for the revoluting treatment of guests. When something goes wrong , firstly apologise and secondly correct it. We were there for a wedding of two friends so we didn’t want to make a fuss.

Perfect Lake Adventure & Romantic Getaway

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I visited with my sister in the summer and really enjoyed swimming in the crystal clear warm lake, the indoor & outdoor pool connected to the spa facing the lake. There’s also a beach with lounge chairs cabanas paddle boards & boat rides. The wine selection & culinary options were exquisite! The service is 5 star from Louis at the front desk to the bar lounge servers & restaurant staff! There’s a very cute museum & high tech gym with the newest machines. The rooms overlook the lake & are very quiet for a perfect night sleep. I highly recommend this location for romantic getaways family reunions & the adventure junkies that love to mountain bike hike & water-sports!

Perfect in every way

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

This was one of the most magnificent places we have ever stayed. From our check in to our check out every experience was perfect. The accommodations were incredible. If we needed anything it was provided immediately. The bed and bath were both divine. The views were majestic. Everywhere you look is one of the most beautiful pictures you’ve ever seen. The food was phenomenal. The bar was possibly the best bar we have been to, maybe ever. The staff were superb. We have hardly ever had such a positive experience.

A Disappointing Return to an Old Favorite

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Having stayed in this exceptional resort a decade ago, my wife & I arrived full of anticipation. Having holidayed before with Rosewood in the Caribbean we knew what high standards to expect! However apart from the extraordinary setting and all the new facilities in the hotel on this historical site, we were bowled one disappointment after another. The staff were all very young and inexperienced and the management were nowhere to be seen. Bookings for restaurants and taxis were not passed on by the reception staff nor the concierge and we frequently had to change our plans. On one occasion the taxi we ordered to take us to Salzburg never pitched up but thanks to the kindness and initiative of a young porter, he was able to take us to town in the hotel car. Our room was often not serviced despite being out of the hotel for five/six hours and when we rang reception to complain they were unable to tell us when the maid would rectify the situation. It’s sad that an expensive hotel of this reputation should be so let down by poor service from inexperienced staff, with lack of active management. I would also question the room descriptions having paid extra for a Premier Lakeside Room. Because of plants grown outside our balcony our view of the lake was almost zero!
