Reviews for Hotel Contessa

Overall experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Great staff. Right on the Riverwalk. Amazing location. However, as a guest you do have to pay for parking whether its public $15-20/day or valet at hotel $53 plus tax/day. Another thing to think about if traveling with little ones there are no microwaves in the hotel rooms.

Great hotel, affordable and the pool was nice for the kids. Restaurant downstairs was great. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Great location great price great staff. Me and my wife did a staycation, we got the king city view suite. Nice room! Plenty of space. Spa was on point! Ambler restaurant was on point! Bar is legit! Definitely come back!

Amazing Service and Experience at Hotel Contessa!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We recently stayed at Hotel Contessa and were blown away by the entire experience. The hotel itself is beautiful and perfectly located on the Riverwalk, but what really stood out to us was our dinner at Ambler Texas Kitchen and Cocktails. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel so welcomed and taken care of. Bellamy went above and beyond to make our evening unforgettable. Her professionalism, attentiveness, and warm personality set the tone for the night. Bellamy was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, made great recommendations, and anticipated everything we needed without us ever having to ask. It felt like true Southern hospitality at its finest. The food and drinks were absolutely phenomenal, but it was the level of service that made this such a standout experience. Bellamy made us feel like VIPs and ensured every detail was perfect. We will absolutely return to Ambler on our next visit to San Antonio and will be recommending Hotel Contessa to all our friends and family. This is the kind of service that deserves to be recognized thank you for an unforgettable evening!

Overpriced Disappointment: Great View, Filthy Room, Awful Service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The hotel is in a prime spot right on the San Antonio River Walk, and the view from our room overlooking the water was truly beautiful. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended. Our room was in noticeable disrepair— damaged ceilings with missing paint, mold under the sink, mildew building up under it, and blood like stains on the baseboards, along with a broken coffee machine. For the price we paid, I expected much better. Customer service was especially disappointing. When we asked to extend our stay in the same room, the woman at the front desk told us there was no availability and advised us to book through Expedia. After we showed her that Expedia listed several available rooms, her response was a snarky “Oh really?”—and then, suddenly, a room became available. She was incredibly rude and unhelpful throughout the interaction. The only saving grace was a wonderful employee named Fast Eddy, who went above and beyond to assist us and was the only staff member who treated us with professionalism and kindness. Also, be prepared for overpriced parking—it cost us $68, which felt like another slap in the face after everything else. In short: beautiful location, but the overall experience left a lot to be desired. We won’t be returning.
