Hotel Contessa

This great hotel is located right on the Riverwalk in San Antonio. It offers very tasteful, spacious rooms. The beds are large and very comfortable. The staff is very friendly and always helpful. It has a very good restaurant and a great, popular bar.

I generally hate to be this person, but I have to be honest. I cannot believe this hotel has a 4.4-star rating. The staff here has been great, and I do not want to take away from that. However, the rooms are dirty, unpleasant, and extremely outdated. We arrived on September 29 around 8:30 PM and went straight to our room. As soon as we opened the door, the smell was overwhelming. There was a very strong, musty, humid odor, almost as if the room had poor ventilation or circulation. There were gnats everywhere. We initially chalked it up to the weather being bad lately, especially after one of the team members told us they had been seeing more gnats because of the weather. We didn’t push the issue and decided to stay. By the first morning, I was already seeing roaches in and around the refrigerator. We continued cleaning and tried to make the best of it, knowing we only had one more night. We also ate at the restaurant. The food wasn’t bad, but the chairs and seating areas were simply disgusting. The upholstery is peeling, everything looks extremely worn, and it is obvious that the furniture has been used for years without being properly replaced or maintained. The pool shown on the hotel’s website is also nothing like what we actually experienced. The pool area was dirty, with visible layers of dirt and grime on various surfaces. It was clear that the area had not been properly cleaned or maintained in a while. Things became much worse on our final night. We had to be moved to a completely different room because roaches were literally crawling on us while we were sleeping. I actually woke up after throwing something toward my mom’s bed, only to realize that what I had thrown was a roach that had been crawling on me. This may sound like a lot, but considering that we paid more than $800 for the room, plus a $50-per-night parking fee, bringing the total close to $1,000 for a three-night stay, I am extremely disappointed. I truly wanted to enjoy this hotel, and again, the staff has been kind and helpful. However, the condition and cleanliness of the property do not match the price or the 4.4-star rating at all. I plan to speak with management in the morning because this experience was unacceptable.

Larry was out driver frome Contessa to the Frost Bank center...SUV was clean and comfortable and Larry dropped us off at the doors and was at the appointed pick up spot after the show. He even provided us with cooling refreshments on the drive back to the hotel. 5 stars all the way!!

Larry was exceptionally, prompt, very safety cautious and acted professional and courteous.
