Mokara Hotel & Spa

I was genuinely disappointed with my stay at Mokara Hotel. Given its reputation and high ratings, I expected exceptional service, but the hotel experience fell far short. Housekeeping was poor. Our room was available for turndown service, there was no “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door, yet no service was provided. When I brought this to the manager’s attention, my concerns were dismissed rather than acknowledged or addressed. The level of service was no better than what I’ve experienced at a standard Holiday Inn, which is hard to justify at this price point. In my opinion, the hotel’s reputation is largely due to its excellent spa—not the hotel service itself. If you’re booking Mokara expecting luxury hospitality, you may be disappointed.

We came to San Antonio with our granddaughter to attend the theatre. After reading the wonderful reviews about Mokara Hotel, we booked it and could not have been any happier. This hotel is a gem conveniently located in the heart of the Riverwalk. Upon arrival, we were greeted with such warmth and hospitality and with warm and delicious chocolate chip cookies! Our room was impeccably clean and so cozy! It was spacious and I so appreciated that it I could sleep soundly with no loud parties waking me up. Room service was prompt and food was excellent! It seems like every single staff member’s aim is to make one’s stay memorable. We are delighted that we found this well appointed hotel, and we will be coming back to celebrate our wedding anniversary!

Wonderful hotel in an excellent location on the River walk. You can check in at street level then go down one flight to gain access to the river walk. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful, especially as we were new in town. We had breakfast vouchers which allowed us to try The four brothers at the sister hotel opposite as well as the in house restaurant. We had delicious cocktails and appetisers there. The room faced a wall but we knew we weren’t paying for a view/balcony. The room was spacious and clean and we appreciated the separate bath tub and shower cubicle. The pool is small but we did use the rooftop cafe for a quieter drink.

Our stay included delayed check-in, luggage taking over an hour to arrive, missed housekeeping, and missed basic service moments. Small issues individually. A pattern together. What ultimately mattered was what happened after. I provided detailed feedback. Hotel leadership asked for my phone number to discuss it. I provided it. No one called. I followed up again and asked for escalation. More than a month later, still nothing. At that point this stopped being about service mistakes and became about accountability. In any well-run service organization, follow-through is the standard, not the exception. Based on both the experience and the lack of response afterward, I would not return and would suggest others consider alternatives.

What a beautiful property. So clean and the staff were so attentive and nice. Great location, walking distance to everything.
