Thompson San Antonio Riverwalk

Had a fantastic stay at the Thompson San Antonio Riverwalk. I did try for an early checkin on Sunday which wasn't available (but it's not guaranteed anyways so totally fine). I valet parked my car and then checked my bags with Korbin (hope I got his name right) and walked the Riverwalk for a bit. It began to rain so I went back to the hotel and relaxed in the lobby for about 45 minutes before the 4pm checkin time. I'm not sure if it was a special thing for me but I then was offered a glass of champagne while I waited which was pretty amazing. Korbin got my bags and me to the elevator once my room was available and I was placed in 818, which is a Panoramic Suite. Had a bedroom, little living room area with bar and a massive bathroom/shower. Room was well acquainted and the panoramic view from the bedroom was fantastic. I had room service from The Moons Daughter for dinner on Sunday, which was the Naan and Butter and then the Wagyu steak with Pomme Frites. Also delicious and would highly recommend. Bed was very comfortable although the sheets were absurdly tight leading to the duvet cover tearing a bit (which I reported) when I was trying to lift the mattress to untuck it. For breakfast, I went to the 20th floor and ate at the Moon's Daughter. I had the salmon on bagel which was fantastic and the freshest berries in a bowl which were blackberries, blueberries and raspberries. Both were very healthy servicing. Service here was fantastic too but I didn't get anyones names unfortunately. Checkout went smoothly as well and I was given a bottle of water on the way out which was a great touch as well. My car arrived within the 10 minute timeframe of when I texted to get it picked up. I think Valet was $65 plus tip which is pretty much expected for a hotel like this. If you a Hyatt world of Hyatt member stay at Hyatt regency instead - better in every way. They nickel and dime you at every opportunity Not what a Thompson is meant to be!

Friendly and helpful hotel staff. Only option is valet parking at $60 a night. Breakfast at Moon's Daughter was mediocre with terrible service. Dinner at Moon's Daughter was good with excellent service. The pool area was dirty at night with roaches to keep us company. We counted 4 big roaches, I would probably not stay here again.

We had a great stay at the Thompson. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The bed was extremely comfortable (just make sure you like the pillows), the restaurant was delicious, and the pool nice and relaxing.

At nearly $400 per night, I expected a comfortable, well-maintained room with high-quality basics. Instead, the bed was extremely squeaky, there was a clipped toenail on the floor, and the towels were inconsistent in quality, some thin and worn, while others were thick and fluffy. The room felt much more basic than luxurious. Fresh water was another frustration. There was a water dispenser in the hallway, but no convenient in-room option. We ended up reusing plastic water bottles from our daily outings so we could fill them and bring water back to the room. Even a reusable glass carafe or bottle in the room would have made the experience feel much more thoughtful. We also had a disappointing experience with the balcony seating area. We had been told we were allowed to sit there and were getting up to order our drinks directly from the bar. A hostess later told us we could not remain seated there, but did not offer a server, another option, or any real explanation. We had missed dinner because of a late lunch and would have gladly ordered more food and beverages while enjoying the balcony. It felt like an unnecessary missed opportunity. I do want to recognize the bartender, who was very kind and provided excellent service. The clearest reflection of our experience came afterward. A friend of mine is making the same trip in November for her son’s Air Force Basic Military Training graduation and asked where we stayed. My immediate response was, “Don’t stay here.” For the price, I expected a much more consistent, polished, and genuinely hospitable experience; especially from a hotel we selected specifically to make an important family trip feel a little more special.
