Tabacon Thermal Resort & Spa

We had such a wonderful experience at Tabacon Thermal Resort! The best part of our visit was the very welcoming staff! They greatest us daily by name, which meant so much to us. We loved how they took an interest in us, but also were kind enough to share about their lives! We were celebrating our 40th anniversary and everyone celebrated in their unique way with us. Thank you Priscila, Joselete, Seidy, Cristian, Jafeth and Luis! We hope to see you all again on a return visit. We had some very excellent meals. We loved the Ave restaurant!! I highly recommend the Thai Salad, the Casado and the Chicken Sando! Our room was gorgeous and had a back deck view of the volcano! Room 504 was unbeatable!!

I stayed 2 nights at Tabacón, and this was such a relaxing part of my Costa Rica trip. Even before I arrived, Alejandra took great care of me, helping me organize my visit and explaining everything I needed to know about getting to the property. She also arranged for Cecilia to walk me around during my stay, show me the property and take me through some of the rooms, which I really appreciated. What I loved most about Tabacón is how connected you feel to nature just by walking around the property. Everything is so lush and colorful, and the whole place is surrounded by rainforest. The thermal springs have also been beautifully refurbished and renewed, and they look fantastic. Can you imagine sitting in the warm thermal waters surrounded by rainforest and suddenly seeing monkeys or sloths around you? That is the kind of experience that makes Tabacón feel so special. There are lots of ways to enjoy the property beyond the springs too. You can take nature walks around the property or explore the area nearby, but honestly, I loved simply slowing down and enjoying the surroundings. There is also a dedicated area within the thermal experience exclusively for hotel guests, which gives you a little more privacy and makes staying overnight even more worthwhile. And the complimentary transfer between the hotel and the springs runs every few minutes, so getting around is incredibly easy. I also heard some very exciting news about what is coming next: beautiful new villas integrated into the forest, with incredible views. I can already imagine these being fantastic for families looking for more space and privacy, and I’m really looking forward to seeing them once they are ready. The food was another highlight for me. Breakfast was amazing, with lots of options, and I had dinner at Tucanes, where the service was impressive. I ordered the Catch of the Day with Huancaína potato purée, ají mayo, spirulina tuile, red onion and ají chili with lime, finished with a coconut curry sauce and I absolutely loved it. It was beautifully presented, very well served and paired perfectly with wine. I also had a risotto and, as if the dinner wasn't already good enough, received a complimentary dessert! Rodrigo was wonderful, and the whole restaurant team made the evening really enjoyable. The service throughout the property was also a real highlight. From reception and concierge to the drivers and restaurant team, everyone was friendly, attentive and genuinely helpful. Those small interactions make a difference, especially at a property where there is so much to experience. And then, of course, there are the hot springs. I could easily spend hours moving between the different pools, waterfalls and warm thermal waters, surrounded by the rainforest. It is such a different experience from a traditional hotel pool or spa — you are actually experiencing the natural landscape of Costa Rica. I would especially recommend Tabacón to couples, families and travelers looking for a combination of nature, wellness and a little adventure. And with the new villas coming, I think it will become even more interesting for families and private groups. For me, Tabacón is one of those places where you can slow down. You wake up surrounded by nature, have an amazing breakfast, spend time in the thermal waters, spot wildlife, enjoy a beautiful meal and simply let the day unfold. It is a completely different way of experiencing Costa Rica, and I really enjoyed it. Thank you Alejandra, Cecilia, Rodrigo and the entire Tabacón team for taking such good care of me. Our stay at Tabacón was wonderful—from securing our favorite room to the memorable dining experiences and amazing hot springs. We first visited 26 years ago for our honeymoon and have returned many times ever since. Over the years, we have seen the resort transform, but the most remarkable change has been the exceptional service and hospitality provided by the staff. Although everyone we met was wonderful, a few people especially exceeded our expectations. We would first like to thank front desk manager Juan Jose Porras, who communicated with us before our arrival and helped us secure our favorite room. We appreciated his correspondence and transparency about the construction next to our room. It did not affect our stay, but we were grateful to be informed. We would also like to recognize Tucanes restaurant manager Josue and our waiter, Rodrigo. We dined at Tucanes every night, and they made our experience special and memorable. On our final evening, we had the pleasure of meeting the head chef, Saul Umana. In addition to serving wonderful food throughout the week, Saul impressed us with his humility. When we complimented the dishes, he graciously credited the entire kitchen staff. We would also like to recognize Francisco from breakfast, who prepared our omelets each morning. His warm, engaging personality stood out: he greeted us by name, remembered exactly how we liked our omelets, and always spoke with genuine enthusiasm. Francisco’s positive, infectious energy made every morning more enjoyable. What truly sets Tabacón apart is the warmth of its atmosphere, the genuine care of its staff, and the thoughtful attention to every detail. It is a place that feels special each time we visit—and one we are always delighted to return to.

This was our second time at Tabacon, the first time being in 2004 and it was just as incredible as we remembered 22 years ago. The amenities, grounds and staff are top notch. One staff member stands out for extraordinary service, friendliness and help and that’s Jeimy. She has worked at Tabacon for over 20 years and was so helpful with restaurant recommendations and even accommodating dinner at a table in the lobby when it was pouring rain one night. I highly recommend this property for a stay in La Fortuna!

Exceptional resort, offers more than you could ever imagine! Cristian was very kind and helpful during our first breakfast in the morning. All the staff are extremely kind, polite and helpful! One of the kind stay/experience.
