My wife and I stayed at the Llao Llao Resort for four nights as part of a nearly three-week Argentina/Chile trip. This was the fourth of five hotels we stayed in. The others included the Alvear Palace Hotel in Buenos Aires, the Gran Meliá Iguazú, and the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Santiago, all of which delivered excellent service. First the positives: the setting is truly spectacular. The hotel sits about 30 minutes from downtown Bariloche on the famous Circuito Chico drive, in one of the most scenic locations in Patagonia. The historic lodge architecture is beautiful, the public spaces are impressive, and the lake and mountain views are memorable. It’s easy to see why the property is considered a classic Argentine resort. However, the service was noticeably weaker than at the other hotels on our trip. Staff were generally polite but not particularly warm or proactive. Concierge assistance was limited and English proficiency was lower than expected for a hotel of this stature. There were also several small issues. After a long day of flying and a fairly long walk through the property to reach our Moreno Wing room, my wife’s first comment was that there was no welcome fruit in the room, something we had received at other hotels on this trip. In addition: • A one-bottle-per-day water limit in the room. Might have been per person. • No tissues provided in the room • Our request for a higher floor was not honored None of these issues are major individually, but together they create the impression of a hotel that is not quite operating at the level of international luxury properties. Overall, Llao Llao is worth visiting for the scenery, architecture, and history, but travelers expecting the same level of service found at top hotels in Buenos Aires, Iguazú, or Santiago may find the experience somewhat uneven. Travelers coming mainly for the views, golf, and natural setting will likely love it, but those expecting consistent five-star service standards may be disappointed. If the hotel elevated its service to match the spectacular setting, it could easily be one of the great resort hotels in South America.

Terrible customer service regarding reservations. Very poor communication style and absolute indifference.

We stayed with our family of 12 at the Llao Llao resort for 4 nights, starting on New Year's Eve. Like many other reviews, the location and visual beauty of this resort from the exterior is 5-star, but once you are inside, it unfortunately falls short on a number of fronts. We stayed in the main building in a Suite. The room was not renovated and felt like it was frozen in time for at least 20 years. The furniture was badly scratched, and the shower in the bathroom was old and small. There was no air conditioning in our room, so it was very uncomfortable, considering we were staying there in the summer. We were charged over $1K per night for rooms that were much lower quality than a typical Marriott hotel room near an airport. The food was average to poor. We were charged over $300 US per person for a special NYE dinner. The food was terrible, the service middling and it was a big let down to kick off our stay. A few members of our family got stuck in an old glass elevator and the staff could not extricate us before we figured out what to do. Because the resort is far away from Bariloche, be prepared to spend big bucks ($300 US for 4 hours) to rent larger vans to transport you to and from the property (for larger groups). The pool was fantastic. The grounds were beautiful. The breakfast buffet was sufficient, but not special. If you still want to stay here, see if you can get a room in the new Moreno buildings. Those rooms were $1,7K per night, but at least newer and closer to a 5-star experience.

Breathtaking surroundings and clearly an institution that has lost its luster with poor management and really bad hospitality. Consistently horrible service that leaves you wondering how it remains a noted destination. Often it came across as negligent (ie trying to get a first aid kit by the marina turned into its own mission impossible). Rooms are really mediocre and not well maintained and the food is pretty bad. It’s a shame. We went over high season and perhaps that was the issue—that the resort just can’t accommodate or keep up with the volume they accept. What makes it all a little more off putting is how religiously you’re asked to tip. It took us asking 5 people for a cup of coffee and the 5th person reminded that “tips are not included.” ALL for gratuity, but the lack of basic help/service makes it a let down.

The most charming luxury hotel in South America! Every view from the lodge is picture postcard perfect. The food is Cordon Bleu, and the service beyond reproach. The town of Bariloche is a jewel to be enjoyed over and over again. If you are an artist, outdoors person, or fisherman you could not find a more perfect location. Aside from the azure lakes and towering mountains of Patagonia the most surprising export of the region is...CHOCOLATE! My wife and I have visited every country in South America - Argentina and Llao Llao Hotel & Resort Golf Spa are tops on our list.
