I would not recommend staying there. It did not meet my expectation from an Andaz property, for several reasons: 1) Location. It is located in the Gaslamp district in downtown. While it is convenient to walk to the party scenes in the district on weekend nights, the party music makes it difficult to fall asleep, after 11PM. 2) It is right next to a homeless camping area and if you walk one block, it smells really bad. 3). The rooftop pool is small and not open after sunset. The rooftop with the view of the city in the night is very nice, and I would love to relax in the pool and enjoy it but we cannot. The rooms are decent and the service is courteous.

This was among the most disappointing Hyatt property’s I’ve stayed at, especially given the price point. First issue is directly next to the hotel is a block of unhoused people in an encampment. We had to detour around it while navigating the city on foot. The check in process was pretty mediocre. Not very friendly, and hard to understand the person. We stayed in a suite on the 3rd floor. The room was in need of updating. The furniture was chipped and worn. The overall design was dated, and the lighting was terrible. We tried playing a few games at night, and we all had to use our phones flashlights at times to see. The rooftop was nice, but I really wish they had a hot tub given how cool the SD weather is. Next time I visit,I’ll be checking out either the Grand Hyatt or the Alila out of town a bit.

The rooftop experience was exceptional, and the staff truly enhanced it. Zeek, Richie, and especially David, the manager, along with Madison, Angie, and Tesla at the front desk, provided outstanding service—enough that I made a point of noting their names for recognition

Manager was super helpful getting our reservation updated and connected with another. We even anticipated we’d have trouble at check in but everything was great.

Bathroom has constant sewer smell. Breakfast took 50 minutes to arrive. Valet charges $70 a night on top of a $40 total destination fee per DAY. Nearby street has a row of homeless camps.
