Reviews for Andaz San Diego

Worst Hyatt experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

In checkin, the receptionist failed to explain any of the hotel benefits such as complimentary welcome drinks, happy hours, rooftop pool. The wifi in the entire hotel was awful and there were barely any spaces to take a meeting. The rooftop would randomly close during lunch hours leaving us no where to hangout or eat. After calling down for some extra towels, housekeeping never came. When we went down to the front desk to ask for towels they refused to give it to us directly. Somehow 4 happy hour drinks at 13 dollars each ended up being 110 dollars on my bill at checkout.

Terrible Experience at the Andaz from Start to Finish

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

This is honestly one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at (to be fair I am not including motels or hostels I stayed at when I was really young, in this evaluation). First of all, the location is super rough and grimy. Right next door, there is a Salvation Army building with lots of homeless people hanging around. I have empathy for homeless people and that is the first point. The issue was it was dangerous - one person from our conference at the hotel from my company was assaulted by a homeless person right outside of the hotel. At another point, I witnesses two homeless people fist fighting in the middle of the street right outside the hotel. The staff is very underwhelming and not proactive in customer service. In the three nights I was there, housekeeping never cleaned my room once, which was totally ridiculous. From there, every time I called the front desk to request housekeeping, I couldn't get through to anyone. There was no room service, other than from the adjoining STK (which is usually a nice restaurant) but the food was gross and overcooked. The valet parking guy was rude and the car took forever to arrive and he wouldn't even confirm if my vehicle would be parked outdoors in one of the sketchy lots nearby or in a secure building. The location overall just felt really rough and seedy. Every other person I encountered looked like a criminal or drug addict. The one and only benefit is that it was a very short walk to the stadium if you wanted to enjoy a Padres game, but that is basically it. Never again for me!

Nice stay, but better for adults

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

2 night stay for business. Staff were all friendly, room decor is modern /urban. Loved the rooftop pool (small, but never crowded during my stay & hotel was near full) . As globalist was upgraded to standard suite, & enjoyed a breakfast entree & coffee at the restaurant; food was very good. 15 min walk to convention ctr; it’s not a nice area like the other Hyatt, but I never felt unsafe walking to/from conv ctr. Would stay again; I think it’s a better place for adults rather than for a family stay.

Family vacation

Received Guest of Honor from a friend. Got to experience upgraded room, complimentary valet and breakfast for the family. Very satisfied with the stay and experience. At check in those info wasn't clear but I was able to verify next day on the phone with guest services.
