Set amidst Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve, this 249-room luxury San Diego resort captures the elegance and comfort of an old-world Mediterranean estate with an enviable Southern California locale. Its design honors the indelible style of visionary architect Addison Mizner (1872 – 1933) who drew his inspiration from Spain’s palaces and France’s sun-washed coastal retreats.

Really great stay and overall experience. Staff was top notch. From valet to front desk and all the waiters and waitresses, everyone was great. Thank you.

While many hotels claim to offer a five star experience this is the first hotel I’ve stayed at internationally which truly lived up to the claim. I can’t wait to come back, this place is phenomenal.

I had the most AMAZING experience. Thank you to the entire staff for the most relaxing thoughtful vacation ever. From the moment we checked in to our last morning at breakfast, we were taken care of by the bellman, housekeeping team, in room dining, servers, and guest services. Can’t recommend this place more!! :)

Here is a polished TripAdvisor style review based on your points. The Fairmont Grand Del Mar is a beautiful resort set in a great location, and the property itself is truly impressive. The grounds are meticulously maintained, and the overall atmosphere feels calm and upscale. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and well designed, which made for a relaxing stay once everything was settled. That said, there were several issues that detracted from the experience. The first room we were assigned had a broken lock on the front door, which was concerning and required us to be moved. While the staff addressed it, this is not something you expect at a property of this caliber. Dining was the biggest disappointment. The food quality did not match the level of the resort, especially for vegetarians, where options were limited and underwhelming. On top of that, wait times to receive food were very long, even when the restaurants were not particularly busy. One waiter was kind enough to help us when he saw that we had not eaten the food because the salad was wilted. Overall, the Fairmont Grand Del Mar excels in location, setting, and accommodations, but the operational issues and poor dining experience prevent it from living up to its full potential.
