Set amidst Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve, this 249-room luxury San Diego resort captures the elegance and comfort of an old-world Mediterranean estate with an enviable Southern California locale. Its design honors the indelible style of visionary architect Addison Mizner (1872 – 1933) who drew his inspiration from Spain’s palaces and France’s sun-washed coastal retreats.

We spent about 10 days at Fairmont Grand Del Mar in late January/early February with our family, and it was truly one of the best vacations we have ever had. The resort and grounds are exceptionally maintained, the rooms were pristine, and we felt pampered from the moment we arrived. What stood out most was the staff. The level of attention to our family was unbelievable. Everything we asked for was handled immediately and with genuine care. Our daughter was celebrating her 7th birthday, and they truly made it special for her in ways we won’t forget. A special thank you to Dylan and Neil at the front desk and Jose Sanchez from room service. Also, the family pool staff was consistently attentive and provided wonderful service. We can’t wait to return in the spring. Thank you for an incredible stay! D + T + E 😊

Stayed a the Grand Del Mar while working for a corporate client of ours. I was the head of the video production team for the event. During the event we had equipment staged under the stairwell out side of the Amaya restaurant. We had permission from the venue and client to use this space on Day 1 of the event for a 3 day period. On Day 2 we received a request to move equipment at 9am while filming the general Session in the ballroom. At 9:30 we made our way out to move the equipment. As we were exiting the ballroom we find 3 Fairmont staff members moving all of our expensive video production equipment (we are a broadcast level crew, not A/V level). We were upset and communicated this to the 3 Fairmont folks who were moving the equipment. They were just as upset as we were, knowing the level of transgression they were committing by moving this equipment (over $16k). The head team member expressed sorrow but said the general manager commanded them To do this. We stopped them and moved the equipment ourselves. In my 25 years in this business, I have NEVER had a general manager or venue manager command an in-house crew to do such a thing. My cameraman and I were gobsmacked at the nerve of your general manager. Suffice to say, I will spend the next 10 years relaying this story to everyone in the meeting & events industry. Complete lack of professionalism by the general manager. Mike O’Rourke 312-752-6185 mikeorourke@michaelorourkeproductions.com

The Fairmont DelMar is a beautiful property. My room was very well appointed with a lovely small sitting balcony overlooking a garden. The perfect place for a morning cup of coffee from the in room espresso machine. The staff is fantastic. Always available without being intrusive. I wish I had been able to spend another day or two in order to better enjoy all the amenities of the resort. I will definitely go back!

My daughter, Kelli Nordin, and I stayed at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar this past week and had an absolute fabulous time. It was my first time to this hotel and I loved everything about it. We were greeted by the "Juan and only" who took good care of us. It is a beautiful property with so much to offer. We started our day playing pickleball on fantastic courts and they supplied us with paddles and balls. We then lounged at one of the beautiful pools and enjoyed lunch poolside. Evelyn and Gary did an outstanding job taking care of us at the pool. We then went to the spa and thoroughly enjoyed all the amenities they had to offer. I had one of the very best massages I have ever had in my life from my therapist, Ryan. I highly recommend requesting him if you are planning on using the spa. We had a delicious dinner in one of their restaurants, and then listened to the live entertainment in the lobby bar. Our room was charming and clean. The patio with our own private firepit was an added bonus. The only downside was that we wished we were staying longer. We look forward to a return visit to this lovely hotel. Alyson Zahn
