Set amidst Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve, this 249-room luxury San Diego resort captures the elegance and comfort of an old-world Mediterranean estate with an enviable Southern California locale. Its design honors the indelible style of visionary architect Addison Mizner (1872 – 1933) who drew his inspiration from Spain’s palaces and France’s sun-washed coastal retreats.

I have stayed here at Fairmont Grand Del Mar about a dozen times and it never disappoints. From arrival with the valet friendly greeting, followed by a wonderful & efficient front desk, to immaculate housekeeping, and the great service by the Food & Beverage team, it’s just a wonderful experience. During my stay this time, it was during the NBA final game and the World Cup, therefore “The Library”was the perfect place to spend Saturday evening with the large screen TV and wonderful Food & Beverage Service. Great shout out to Shea in F&B, Swamy in Engineering and Amanda,Nathan & Nenad who I had the pleasure to bump into during my stay.

Great service. It was really amazing experience. 4 vacation days there was not enough.

Our experience at fairmont was average due to poor service. The hotel itself is beautiful and expansive (albeit a bit outdated decor wise). So visually we liked it, and appreciated the expansive grounds. But at the pool, the service was terrible. It took forever for us to be checked on, our server would forget to come back for 30-45 min at a time. Our food took over an hour to get to us. And overall we felt like we had to find people to help us, which should never happen at a luxury resort. Also the food costs are unusually high as compared to the other luxury resorts we have been to locally, but the service is so bad it felt like a rip off (plus the actual food was subpar so it felt like we were paying premium rates for bar food). This was the same for the bellman service (took forever for them to get to our room) and also for the service at grand social restaurant. The restaurant experience was beyond bad.... it took over an hour to get food, the food did not all come out together leaving us all eating at different times. We had to walk around and find a server. And the food itself was bad. Overall it just felt like really low level service for a resort charging luxury resort rates. And walking out of grand social with a bill that exceeded $400, but feeling like we had dined at a DIY bbq park. It's just a bit shocking how bad the service if for a fairmont resort. Due to the poor service, we would probably not come back. It felt like we didn't get what we paid for, and if we are going to spend the money we prefer to experience something a bit more dialed in.

The Fairmont Grand Del Mar is a really great hotel! The location is beautiful and quiet, the people are welcoming, the rooms are clean and beautiful. We stayed here on a spur of the moment trip where we wanted to go to the beach and zoo but stay somewhere relaxing and quiet. This hotel achieved that! As both our wants were only 20-30min drives away. The hotel does come with a complimentary car but that gets booked up well in advance. When it comes to the rooms they are beautifully decorated and you can’t hear your neighbors. The doors to the hallways are a little thin but that’s only a problem if a child goes screaming past, which didn’t happen too often. The food was amazing and the staff were so warm and welcoming! My only issues would be the bed frames. The first room we were given had the squeakiest bed frame, there was no way we would be able to roll over in our sleep without waking each other up. After brining it to the attention of the hotel we were in another room in 20min. It had a less squeaky bed frame, something we could live with. I would love to see the hotel service their bed frames as it’s probably the one piece of furniture that gets abused the most. Overall we would definitely stay here again and consider other Fairmont properties. It is pricey, especially the valet parking, but we had a lovely and relaxing time.
