Set amidst Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve, this 249-room luxury San Diego resort captures the elegance and comfort of an old-world Mediterranean estate with an enviable Southern California locale. Its design honors the indelible style of visionary architect Addison Mizner (1872 – 1933) who drew his inspiration from Spain’s palaces and France’s sun-washed coastal retreats.

This was the finest resort we have ever had the pleasure of visiting. The grounds were impeccable, the staff could not have been more accommodating and the hotel was superb. We were so pleased that we have raved about our experience here to everyone we know.

Serene and hospitable setting! The entire valet team is efficient, friendly, and accommodating! The Amaya restaurant staff, especially Vladimir, Adan, and Nadia, were professional, hospitable and attentive to our every need. They remembered our preferences during multiple visits to the tasty menu! The room is spacious with a delightful bathroom. The resort is tucked away in a canyon yet close to many attractions around San Diego! We will definitely return!

Very dated property and not great value. Room had broken outlets, mildew in the shower. Staff very attentive and nice but cards stacked against them.

Beautiful grounds and the staff for the most part was great for our 5 day stay. Unfortunately every day had a negative thrown at us: 1. Had a bad High Tea experience (cost of $890 for 4 people) as the food was below average (staff was excellent). The Tea and pastries were great, but sandwiches and scones were well below average. 2. Fire alarm going off at 2am with no explanation or apology given the next day. This seems to be an ongoing problem based on other reviews. 3. Maintenence workers starting at 6 am pounding on walls and speaking loudly under the windows. 4. Limited food options for a "5 star resort" and no after hours snack bar to purchase anything. The pastry chef needs to be promoted as the desserts were fantastic. 5. Had a 1 bedroom suite (room 395) that had a sofa sleeper that was filthy, and the matress was not usable. Not a 5 star experence and would never book again.
