Worst Grand Hyatt I’ve stayed at

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

I recently stayed here the beginning of August. My friends were with me and my bf celebrating an anniversary and I was celebrating my birthday with a California trip. The only thing this hotel has going for it is the location, which is “okay”. I am pretty loyal and mostly book Hyatt’s when traveling, but this hotel was the worst Hyatt I’ve stayed at - the experience is making me rethink my loyalty. Out of all my hotels I stayed at during my trip, which were Hyatt’s this one was the most expensive as well, so the expectations should be high considering. I stayed at the Grand Hyatt in San Francisco later in my trip and that met my expectations of a grand Hyatt and it was 1/4 the cost. All the furniture and furnishing were worn in my room in Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego. The air conditioning hardly worked and the room always stayed very humid. They were aware of how many people were in our room (4), but housing keeping only left two towels and we kept having to ask for more brought up each day after they serviced the room. To top it off, the last night. Somehow, and unsurprisingly, there was a leak from the corroded pipes in the bathroom and the entire floor was flooded. We ended up having to use our clean towels to soak it all up. Tried contacting the front desk about it multiple times, without an answer - apparently they couldn’t be bothered - so I had to resolve the issue myself before checkout. No one was able to shower either considering all the new towels had to be used on the flooded bathroom floor. This experience reflected other experiences with the staff as well - they all were very cold, uncaring, and unhelpful as they didn’t want to be there. Lastly, I paid extra to have club access and the what was provided was very minimal and underwhelming. For what I paid and the compared experiences at other grand Hyatt’s I expected more. I could of had the same experience at a low tier hotel and had a comparable offering to what they provided - it was so bad. Not to mention most of the food was kept fairly cold and the staff again was unhelpful or nowhere to be seen. All these experiences are not common when I usually go to Hyatt’s and that’s why I have felt the need to write this review and stop others from making the mistake I made in paying to stay here. I would NEVER stay here again and I encourage others to not do the same. You’re not getting any worth in the exorbitant price they charge here.

Rooms too old and can be stinky; not good for people with allergies

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

A/C blown out stinky air, smells like moist urine, had to turn off a/c and open window to be able to avoid having an asthma attack; Bathroom sink had a large crack in it, essentially split in half; room is old and carpet is dirty. Room is generally in worth condition than a motel. Stayed for three nights. On the first night, we were unable to switch room due to us arriving late. On the second night, we requested to switch room, and the front desk was supposed to send someone up to assist, and that person didn't show up after 30mins and child already fell asleep so we gave up on switching the room and just opened the window instead of turning on A/C which was noisy and not cool enough. On the 3rd night, we were finally able to switch to a different room which was in slightly better condition.

Waterfront Location

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Beautiful waterfront location within walking distance of Seaport Village, Gaslamp Quarter, and many restaurants. Our room had an amazing view, the highlight of our stay. Check-in was slow due to long lines, but service was attentive. The room was clean and comfortable, and we enjoyed using the hotel bikes along the waterfront. Loved the cocktails and views from the 40th floor Top of the Hyatt, though it does get crowded. Overall, a great location and a memorable stay.

Worst experience ever

House keeping did not clean room. Trash was over flowing. I expected more given i spent so much money here. The sheets had holes in them and towels had holes in them. The toilet would move from its base everytime you sit on it.
