A Beautiful Tropical Escape in the Heart of San Diego

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Our weekend at Paradise Point Resort & Spa was truly special. From the moment we arrived, it felt like we had stepped into a tropical island far away from the city, even though it is right in the middle of San Diego. The property itself is stunning. The resort sits on a 44-acre island surrounded by Mission Bay, with lush tropical landscaping, and quiet lagoons, with views of the water everywhere you look. The food was a standout. Dinner at Tidal was excellent, with fresh seasonal dishes and beautiful views of Mission Bay. For something more casual, Barefoot Bar & Grill is a perfect spot to relax with great food and drinks right by the water.

Unpleasant time at the Bayside Bungalow unit.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

This was my fourth visit to the resort, and my previous stays have always been very good. However, my most recent visit from March 1–4 was quite difficult. When I first entered the room, there was a strong smell that seemed like someone had smoked marijuana. The room was cleaned again after we reported it and the smell was removed, which we appreciated. However, it would have been better if the room had been properly checked and refreshed before the guest arrived. During the stay, I saw roaches running across the floor four different times. I didn't ask to spray the room because of my dog. I managed to catch all of them, but it made me concerned that there may have been more. Unit number I stayed was 403. It was a very uncomfortable and unpleasant experience, and when I returned home I even felt the need to check all of my laundry and bags to make sure no roaches had come back with me. Unfortunately, this significantly affected our stay.

Hotel not bad, ridículous fees when checking - in

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

The hotel is generally fine; the facilities are clean and, while not new, are in decent condition—no complaints there. The main problem is the ridiculous additional fees charged at check-in, such as parking and resort fees, which increased our stay by $100 USD without any prior notice. This makes a one-night stay feel unreasonably expensive. This negatively impacted our experience, as the intention of our trip was to celebrate our son's fourth birthday at Legoland. Looking for a more affordable option, we ended up choosing this hotel instead of one inside the park, and ultimately paid more. Having no information about these fees and being forced to pay them is more of a scam than a service.

Truly Disappointing — Not Worth the Price

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled to share our experience since most reviews here are so positive. We booked Paradise Point expecting a true luxury experience for our family of four. At nearly $700 per night (with taxes and fees), we anticipated pristine grounds and high-end accommodations. That’s not what we found. The grounds were noticeably unkempt — pathways covered in pine needles, landscaping that looked neglected, and cigarette butts near our patio. The bungalow exterior was dirty, with a missing brick and a loose room number. The patio furniture was grimy and uninviting. Inside, there was a strong moisture smell. Within an hour, condensation completely fogged the windows, blocking our bay view (a main reason we booked). While partially remodeled, the room showed significant wear: stained trim, uneven grout, rusting shower head, stained sink grout, and fixtures that looked repeatedly repaired. Our bathroom door wouldn’t close fully and we realized the bottom hinge was completely unattached to the wall. It felt much more like a dated motel than a luxury resort. Housekeeping was also confusing. We were told daily service wasn’t included unless requested, yet housekeeping knocked at 8:30am each morning — and on one occasion entered with a key card after about a minute of knocking. That felt inappropriate and uncomfortable. Amenities were average at best. Mini golf and pools were fine for kids but very standard — not “resort” level. Fire pit supplies cost us about $50, which surprised us given the resort fee. Overall, this property feels tired and poorly maintained. Unless you’re getting a significant discount and understand what you’re walking into, I would not recommend it at this price point.

Pool is a free for all!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Terrible maintenance and allowing people who are not staying at the hotel into the pool areas at night. This made pleasant evenings turn into a party vibe for a couple and family that were trying to relax. Not worth the price!!!
