Paradise Point Resort & Spa

We booked at the hotel and were charged $160 more than we could have gotten 3rd party, usually they give you extras that make up for some of the difference but NO, NOTHING but an attitude from Angelina the Mansger, she was Very Rude! The rooms are really Worn and Outdated for the price, but the ANTS all over the bathroom was the worst part. Again, I can not overstate how Nasty and Unprofessional the Manager was!

Paradise resort the best place to spend your vacations. Specially the staff member jeydi waiters she is amazing, courteous, really nice person, make me feel like home. Also the waiter Leny, on the restaurant, they are great. I highly recommend Paradise Resort for your vacations.

Weeks later and I still can't get over the non-changed dirty sheets, the failure of the manager to respond promptly, the gaslighting by the manager etc. I stay in hotels extensively and have never had this happen. There also was a strong bug spray / chemical odor in my room. I later saw a bug sprayer, so that must be it, but read other reviews. Others in our group had total bug infestations. I am almost embarrassed to write a bad review because the food was good for the meetings but I could not enjoy myself after encountering the dirty sheets the first night. It's too bad. I hate doing this but weeks later I'm still scarred from the dirty sheet incident and can't get good sleep in hotels as now I'm worried about what I don't see/feel in hotel beds! So upsetting.

The experience was excellent, except for little details, which could be improved. The resort itself was wonderful, gorgeous landscaping, and a great site to hold our meeting. But, and this was a noticeable but, the front desk staff was all business, not friendly, and not in a hurry. Check-in took far too long for the few people in the lobby. When I arrived at the front desk (finally) somehow my reservation was canceled because I arrived a day late. Except that my confirmation had the correct dates. The reservation was reinstated. Check-out was interesting. I attempted to check out by phone (it was before 6 a.m.) to no success. I then drove to the lobby, where there was no one except one front desk clerk. She said that, yes, the front desk can be a challenge to reach, and checked me out. The internet in the fitness center did not work. Perhaps because you have to reach the fitness center through the pool area, it did not open until 6 a.m., which is not convenient for East Coast travelers and those with early meetings. I was both, and only could exercise one day out of five. The resort was otherwise excellent. But the little things tend to be what you remember.

I stayed at Paradise Point for 2 nights for a professional conference and would not return. The staff was a mixed bag. Our room, 137, was dirty, had broken electrical outlets, and the decor looks cheap and outdated. The bedsheets had not been changed (more on that below). Overall, the property is by no means a "resort." Positives: The front desk staff was pleasant at check in. The staff at the valet/taxi stand were very friendly. The greenery and wildlife around the property are pretty and pleasant (but the roads and other swaths of concrete, such as the parking lots, are jarring and make it that much more obvious that the lagoon is not natural). Onsite recreation (I did not use) included kayak and paddle board rentals. Mission Bay is certainly a lot safer for kids than the open ocean. Our room was right on the road and it felt like we were sleeping in a cheap roadside motel. Cars driving by and chirps from locking/unlocking were not a relaxing vibe, so we didn't bother using the Adirondack chairs outside. 2 power outlets near the Keurig were not working, and 1 outlet near the TV was also not working, so I moved the Keurig by the bed. The provided coffee cups were very flimsy and I spilled my coffee when the lid popped off. The room overall looked worn out or there were weird things going on -- chipped paint, missing grout in the tiles, no weather stripping in the front door so you could see daylight between the door and the jamb. Blackout curtain did not go fully closed. The bathroom faucet was installed in an odd spot, so you had to turn the water on full blast, or the stream was next to the back of the sink and your hands were knocking on the back of the sink as you washed your hands. The overhead light turned off and then on again whenever I took a shower, and I was startled each time. The first night my colleague/roommate came home and her bed was full of sand! Housekeeping seemed to have simply pulled the covers back up without changing the sheets. Since I was asleep, my roommate waited until morning so as not to wake me up, and then made several calls to the front desk where she was told repeatedly "no manager on duty" and hung up on. Once a manager was available, the manager told my roommate she would have the sheets changed "and I'll stop by your room to chat." The manager did not call or stop by, so my roommate called again, and the manager said, "are you sure it was sand and not detergent in your sheets?" There were stains on my sheet (this was resolved by the sheet change). Our last morning I discovered the room's tile floor was extremely filthy, after I got into the shower and watched dirt and grime appear in the bottom of the tub (from my feet). It seems housekeeping didn't bother to mop the floors carefully, or there is just too much dirt and grime tracked in from what is essentially a glorified parking lot outside. The property is spread out for no apparent reason, which quickly became very annoying. The conference center was a relatively short walk from our room, but it got tiring quickly walking back and forth between the room, the conference center, the lobby, and our colleagues' rooms. Trying to avoid stepping in duck poop on the walkways in between meetings and meals is not my idea of a good experience. Our gala dinner was held outside next to the conference center; dining on concrete is not my idea of an amazing setting. There were firepits going and s'mores, but now my clothes smell like campfire because it was windy and smoke was blowing right into the dinner area. I know the hotel can't control the weather, but there was no effort by staff to adjust the fires until several dinner attendees complained about the smoke. The conference meals were a bit above average, with some odd touches. For example, there was chicken labeled as "chicken fajitas" for lunch the first day, but no flautas, which seemed odd, and the tables were all set up in the registration foyer, making it very crowded. Eggs for breakfast are always appreciated, but these tasted like they are powdered. I really don't understand the good reviews here; all in all, because even at the discounted group rate we paid, I just would not stay here as I came away overall with a negative experience. Even if our beds had fresh sheets on them, this "resort" is very disappointing given the room rates, and seems to be exploiting its location near the beach. The ownership group needs to invest some serious dough into a complete revamp, maybe removing the roads that wind through most of the property. Even if the rooms were completely renovated, the property layout and design are simply sub-par and made my visit here feel strange. I do feel sorry for the staff, who *mostly* seem hard working and sincere, but the housekeeping fail, combined with the manager's attitude and attempted gaslighting of my roommate, are unacceptable. Stay elsewhere.
