Beautiful Scenery but Be Ware of the Rooms

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Let me begin with the positive: The resort is in a picturesque part of Mission Bay, with expansive grounds, lots of activities, friendly staff, adequate parking, and good food. However, that is where the positives end. The rooms are in disrepair and require serious renovation. There is a smell of mold and mildew in the rooms, and it wasn't just in our room. We were there for a conference, and everyone I spoke with complained about the same things. The rooms are dated and beat up, and the HVAC systems are inadequate and rusted. After one night, I began having asthma symptoms from inhaling toxic air in the room, and my husband had to throw away his shirt after sleeping close to the HVAC. I wish I had paid more attention to the reviews before coming, but some of the most relevant reviews are under Paradise Cove San Diego (by the way, there is no Paradise Cove San Diego, but people are confusing the name). Thank you to the staff who moved our room and did their best to accommodate our family and others, and for the memorable experience, albeit not necessarily completely positive. I hope this review will help others better understand what they are getting into if they stay here.

This property is begging for a remodel - it’s in disrepair and unkept and laughably not worth the price asked

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

It’s very sad that this property is in such disrepair. It has unique amenities and is in a great spot. But the grounds are unkept, weedy, and have weathered garbage strewn about. The rooms are in disrepair and completely dated. The air conditioning is loud, and the property in general is just rundown. It’s sad to see. We were severely disappointed in the price that we paid for such a two star experience. That being said, the people that work there are very nice, and you can see shadows of its former heyday. This property is desperately calling out for a complete remodel and perhaps change of management or ownership?

Pretty place, but horrible for sleeping and relaxing

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Beautiful grounds, but rooms leave a lot to be desired. Our A/C rattled so loud we had to leave it off at night to sleep. Maintenance came to look at it, but it must be there normal because nothing was done to fix it. Rooms have little privacy, as patios are shared with neighbors with no wall or fence. Walls are very thin. You can hear full conversations from your neighbors. We even had a family with an infant next door, when it cried in the middle of the night, it was as if it was in our room. Neighbors on our other side had a night of partying and we're getting sick at 2am, we heard that as if it was in our room as well.

Nice Location but rooms need remodeling

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The first room they gave me smelled so bad of mold I instantly called and they gave me another room. The new room was still musty but not nearly as strong a smell. The room needed a complete overall. It reminded me of hotels I stayed at when I was in college and broke. Very low budget furnishings, bed was definitely in need of a new mattress, the safe needed a new battery, no water bottles replenished and mold around the shower and floor in the bathroom. The room prices definitely did not reflect our experience.

Not worthy of 4 stars

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Of all of the options we had to stay in San Diego, I am truly disappointed we ended up here. The resort is dated by about thirty years past its expiration. The room floors are really filthy after walking around barefoot, feet were black. This hotel is not worthy of four stars and I am annoyed that good advertising for a family friendly setting got us here. The photos are incredibly misleading. Why does "family friendly" have to mean less quality? Would not stay here.
