My family and I stayed at the Alma San Diego Downtown, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel from 25-29 November 2025. We were greeted by a very efficient valet team and outreaching, friendly, customer focused front desk personnel. Due to an unfortunate miscommunication there was difference in our room requirement and room assigned. In my view more specific description when referring to a presidential suite vs regular room by both parties in the planning process and an improvement in the communications interface between the hotel and a separate reservation department would have been significant in avoiding this and similar disconnects. We were able to quickly resolve the issue because both parties (the hotel personnel and myself) listened carefully to the other while we presented our respective understanding of how this disconnect occurred. The hotel personnel took the initiative with a proposeda solution that far exceeded our expectations in resolving the situation to our complete satisfaction! The presidential suite met all of our expectations, service was excellent, the restaurant dining experience was delicious Thank you to Tre and Lena for a very pleasant hotel stay!

Five Stars all the way. Very clean ,very helpful stuff. The location is in the heart of downtown San Diego. Close to bars restaurants. We enjoy it a lot and planing to go again.

Man, this place was such a disappointment. The staff (which were few and far between - WAY understaffed) and the bed were the only redeemable qualities from our stay. They were all very nice, helpful, and respectful. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to make up for the quality of the building itself. I don't think there was a single corner of the wall or piece of furniture that wasn't scratched, dented, or chipped. Every surface was dusty. The toilet paper was rough and cheap. The sink backed up. You could hear people next door or on other floors through the walls and the pipes. The blackout curtains couldn't keep the neon light out of the room. I've stayed in all sorts of places from hostels to Airbnbs to resorts. This spot just isn't worth what they charge.
