1 Hotel San Francisco

I found this to be a cozy, comfortable, highly professional spot. It was well-run, and they delivered an exceptional experience.

This stay was a nightmare. Before arriving, I arranged for my luggage to be delivered to the hotel. I called both the concierge and front desk ahead of time to let them know that I had two suitcases arriving around 12:10 PM. When we checked in, we asked for the bags to be brought up to our room so we could quickly change and head to dinner. An hour passed with no luggage. When I called downstairs, I was told they had no idea where my bags were. I explained again that I had already notified both concierge and the front desk in advance. After another hour, making us over an hour late to our dinner reservation - the luggage finally arrived. At check-in, we were offered an upgrade to a balcony suite. The room itself was beautiful, and we agreed to pay the additional nightly rate they quoted us. Since we had already prepaid for our original room, we were told we would only be charged the difference. Instead, they charged us the full suite rate on top of the prepaid reservation, essentially double charging us. Getting the incorrect charge refunded became another frustrating battle. The service throughout the stay was incredibly disappointing. Our room was not cleaned two days in a row. The first day, we even called to request housekeeping after noticing it had been missed, were told someone would come by, and still returned to an untouched room later that evening. For the price point and the “5-star” reputation, this level of service is completely unacceptable. I’ve stayed at the Four Seasons in San Francisco and received phenomenal service. The Fairmont was excellent as well, and honestly, I’ve had better hospitality experiences at standard Marriott properties. This hotel charges champagne prices while delivering beer-level service.

My partner and her adult children had a fine stay at the 1Hotel. We expected a modern, sustainability focused property having stayed at the 1Hotel on Kauai. We experienced much of what we expected with a couple of surprises that were perhaps a result of catering to a more business oriented clientele in SF. We paid for a beautiful suite facing the bay with an added bedroom and were pleased with the view and ambience. The location if great - right on the Embarcadero and near the Ferry Building with lot's of food options for lunch and dinner. Boulevard Restaurant across the street is an excellent classic SF dining experience. Our disappointments? The gym which is ambitiously called the "Fieldhouse" is a dark and small facility with no windows and limited equipment perhaps suitable for a smaller hotel. The food at breakfast was excellent and well prepared. Unfortunately the service model needs some work. Be prepared to stand in line to order which can be quite frustrating if you're just grabbing a coffee to go so allow some extra time. Tables both indoors and outdoors were great. Net/net - the 1Hotel feels like an upscale business hotel tuned to the young(ish) tech crowd. If you're of a "certain age" and expecting a luxury service model, it might serve you to look elsewhere. All that said - we'll likely return.

The Bamford Wellness Spa at 1 Hotel is soo good. I am very familiar with the original spas in the Cotswold England as I lived in the area for many years and was a firm devotee to their excellence and top drawer products. Amal who runs the spa at 1 Hotel is second to none in my opinion- the pride she takes in doing her work and love of her work shine through and enhances the luxurious pampering of the experience, taking it to a whole new level. We had a couples massage and both came away very very impressed with the skill of our masseurs- truly wonderful experience for both of us, and the hot tub soaks on the rooftop were just fabulous! Thank you to all for making my birthday celebration so special:-) Eve

Had a 90 min massage with Amal, this is one of the best massages I have ever had. Amal was able to get my sore muscles to relax without using brute force! She was also warm and welcoming.
