I really wanted to like this place. Wanted it to become a special memory. Was enticed here by the positive reviews touting the beautiful architecture, art deco boutique hotel vibes, and good service. Partner and I visited the city for a vacay weekend including symphony and dinner. We don't often have the opportunity to treat ourselves to something nice so this was special. Wanted to stay in the perfect place and opted for The Majestic because of the reviews and price. We booked a Master King Suite. I realize after this experience what a huge difference hospitality makes in a hotel stay. We arrived, weren't greeted with any pleasantries or kindness other than "you're checking in" by "S." Wasn't provided with any information about hotel amenities (gym, Cafe, bar, room service.). Came down later and had to ask. Front desk staff either had no social skills or no training. Go to take a shower and it's not working. Inform the front desk and again, no warmth, concern or apology. They send up a repair guy who needs a part to fix it. They tell us to use a room down the hall to shower. We miss our dinner reservations and rush to the symphony. Return to the hotel and "S" says "308? Your shower is fixed. " Thanks bro. Your lack of hospitality has literally ruined our experience of this place. I'm local to the Bay Area and lived in the city for a long time. Apart from the beautiful architecture I cannot recommend this place. Additionally, bed is hard, sheets are poor quality, there is no decent lighting to do makeup. "Plush" robes that are advertised are tiny and thin! Barely fit me as an average woman, husband couldn't use it. Toiletries in our room were cheap refillable bottles of soap, etc. The potential in this place is only matched by the disappointment. Not even close to the "luxury" experience listed for $230/night on the hotels website.

This is a lovely Old hotel with a very European vibe. They are trying to do something nice here, with coffee in the lobby and breakfast in a sunny, charming room. There is a slight musty smell. Typical of very old buildings in the lobby, but everything is really very clean. Housekeeping did a great job. Beds and pillows were comfy. Refrigerator worked nicely. I wish that they would get rid of the charming canopies at the head of the beds. I really don't like fabric that hasn't been washed that close to my head. Otherwise, it was a delightful stay and I would recommend it. Parking, by the way, is difficult on weekends. When the set of garage is closed. There's parking a block away at a different hotel which is $50 a night. Parking at the Japan center is a bit far to walk at night.

Even though the hotel has a nice character, don't expect any customer service. We got stuck in the elevator fir 50 minutes and not once did management come to ask if we were OK. Despite us pressing the alarm and banging on the elevator door... finally the housekeeping lady asked if we were ok. After 50 minutes the elevator repair man got us out. Again, no apologies , no inquiries if we needed anything. At the end, once we asked for some kind of refund, we were told they would reimburse us $40. ...really? So don't expect any customer service.

If you are looking for new, modern, sleek, this is not for you. The Hotel Majestic is like a blast from the past. The rooms are lovely -with rich fabrics and embellishments. The bath was large and well equipped. Great bed and quality sheets and towels. The bar is charming and the breakfast area looks like it was formerly a ballroom. Location is great- just about in the center of everything but not too close to anything that would lead to noise/ congestion. Lots of good restaurants close by. And best of all, to a person the staff were delightful.

We loved our stay at Hotel Majestic. It is authenticlly old, has a lot of charm, a big breakfast with make- your own waffles, fruit pastry, etc., polite and sensitive staff, and a romantic, if small, room. It also is in a very quiet neighborhood, and I didn't see any homeless on the nearby streets. The decor is French art deco, with a beautiful entrance. Our room was on the second floor,( we chose that floor) near the cross of Sutter and another street, but still the noise wasn't much during the day, and fairly quiet at night. My husband, who lived in Paris for years, loved the draped decor over the bed and the European type wardrobe closet. I loved the well-worn humorous artwork in the elevator and a nice, gilded bathroom. There are also grand suites with firepla, ces. Our room was next to the one Senator Diane Feinstein used. Others, more glamorous movie stars from various film periods occupied. That's fun. Though not in the heart of some tourist areas, you can get to most anywhere by nearby public buses as well as Lyft/Uber ,
