Elevators are a nightmare!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

The Elevators at the hotels are under renovation and are a real nightmare. As the elevator are not communicating, they stop at every floor where someone push the bottom. I was at the 20th floor and stopped at 11 floors before I got to the lobby (3rd floor). The wait time is also long. This condition should be reviled before you make the reservation and not after you arrive! For hotel that charge $500 a night, it is unacceptable. My attempt to address it with the front desk representative was ignored. Real miss….

Disappointing

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

I found this property to be disappointing. I stayed here years ago when it was the park Hyatt and it was fantastic. Now it’s the jay. The pros - good location, excellent food for room service, comfortable room, nice views. Cons - I felt like I was being nickeled and dimed. No plastic laundry bag but sure $18 for their cloth one. Everything was extra. And the hotel isn’t cheap. Service felt meh except for the nice folks in the restaurant on the third floor. I wouldn’t stay there again.

Comfortable Stay, Long Elevators, Wonderful Staff

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

I stayed at The Jay Hotel for the New Year’s Eve celebration. From the start, it was clear the hotel was extremely busy. The road leading to the property was backed up due to guests arriving and using valet parking. While frustrating, it was understandable given the holiday and the volume of guests. Once we finally pulled over, the valet attendant and bellman assisted us promptly and directed us to the 3rd floor for check-in. There was a wait for the elevator, and when we reached the front desk, a line had already formed. Despite this, the check-in process itself was smooth. The front desk agent was very pleasant and professional. After check-in, we headed to our room—again with a long elevator wait, which became a recurring issue throughout our stay. When we entered the room, we were pleasantly surprised. It was spacious, smelled clean, and felt well maintained. The bed was beautifully made with crisp white linens that smelled fresh. After a long day and with a long night ahead, we were looking forward to a short nap. While setting the alarm on the radio clock, I noticed some dust on the clock and the hanging lamp. Other lamps and desk surfaces were clean, so this seemed like a minor oversight rather than a general cleanliness issue. I realized I had forgotten my toothpaste and called reception. The staff member who answered was very pleasant and promptly sent us the toothpaste. One minor inconvenience was the TV, which only had 3-4 working channels. At that point, we were too tired to call about it. Whether it was exhaustion or just an exceptionally comfortable bed, I slept deeply and comfortably. I was grateful I had set an alarm—otherwise I might have slept straight through New Year’s Day and missed the celebration altogether. Heading out to the New Year’s Eve party was another challenge due to the extremely long elevator wait. This was one of the most frustrating aspects of the stay. I ended up having one of the best nights of sleep I’ve had in a hotel. The next morning, I called reception to request a late checkout, and the agent kindly extended our checkout time to 12:30 PM, which was very much appreciated. Overall, I had a great experience at The Jay Hotel. The room and staff were excellent—clean, comfortable, welcoming, and professional. The bed and linens were heavenly, and the toiletries smelled wonderful. The shampoo and conditioner shared the same pleasant scent, although the dispenser seemed faulty and wouldn’t dispense properly. I deducted one star mainly due to: • Very long elevator wait times • Long valet delays • Minor housekeeping oversights (dusty clock and lamp, faulty shampoo dispensers) It was clear that staff—both at the front desk and valet—were overwhelmed and understaffed for such a busy holiday. I noticed four elevators in the building, but it appeared that only two were operating during my stay, which contributed significantly to the long waits. If this had been a regular weekend, I would rate the hotel 3 stars. However, considering it was New Year’s Eve and the hotel staff still delivered great service and comfort under pressure, I believe a 4-star rating is well deserved. The staff were consistently kind, courteous, and professional, even though they clearly seemed overwhelmed by the holiday rush. Kudos to them for maintaining a positive and welcoming attitude. With improvements to elevator operations, staffing, and a few small housekeeping details, this hotel could easily become a 5-star experience.

Beautiful modern hotel with amazing furnishings and great view of the bay. Breakfast was included if titanium status. Starbucks right down street for 5am coffee folks. Walkable to all the sights of San Fran. 6 mile walk to Golden Gate Bridge and totally safe. Definitely would stay here again. Clean rooms, lobby, bathroom
