About the Hotel

Nestled into the sand dunes along Mexico’s dramatic San José del Cabo coastline, a place of mystery and magic unfolds. One where fire is the catalyst for bold flavors; heat and sound are healers; the sea is a place of adventure and discovery; whims are anticipated and fulfilled; and your place of rest is a gallery of Mexican artistry. Along gently sloping dunes overlooking the Sea of Cortés in San José del Cabo, luxury suites and villas reflect the land and those who sprung from it. Here, nature is invited within and resort guests encouraged to venture out: sliding glass doors replace traditional walls, terraces are an extension of home, with private plunge pools providing tranquility and the opportunity to take in fresh air. Throughout, luxury villas, art, textiles and decorative objects from Mexican artists showcase the tradition and talent found in Cabo and beyond.

Reviews for Zadun, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve

What it could be..

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

I wrote a review 3 days ago, on the 2nd day of our stay in which I pointed out the many areas that Zadun did not measure close to their competitors standards. All that holds true, but I decided to update my review to include a few individuals who did step up and deserve to be acknowledged . Areas of the hotel are in need of easy fixes, broken locks, broken mirrors, cracked baseboard and major fixes ;collapsed roofs. These are visible and a resort of this calibre should remain on top of what is visibly in need of repairs at the very least. The service at Barrio the one restaurant available for breakfast and lunch is exceedingly slow and the menu and food is nothing memorable. Yet despite these disappointments, I don’t want to overlook the efforts of a few well appointed personnel. Israel , the food and beverage manager came to find us poolside after returning from his days off and it was the first instance that someone took it upon themselves to inquire and take steps to improve the service experience. Israel is an asset to Zadun and more personal with his skilled yet natural training in hospitality and problem solving would immensely lift the standards of the resort. In short, they need a good few Israels as key heads of each department , someone who is willing and able to take the lead, and then creates ways to make guests feel welcomed. The concierge duo Gabriel and Ariadna were also on par with the expected standards of a luxury resorts, they were utterly responsive and visible. Samuel at Barrio should not take the fall for the slowness or the hidden missing links that results in delays in receiving orders. Samuel has great work ethics and his efforts and service did not go unnoticed. We may not return to Zadun, there are no shortages of stellar luxury resorts in Cabo, that have ironed out the mechanics of a well run machinery but we are totally grateful for the likes of the people who extended themselves to make guests have a good experience and the beautifully spacious 2 bedroom suite with 3 bathrooms and a living room and ocean views that housed our family for the past 4 nights!

Mother /Daughter get away

The rooms are beautiful, large and very clean. We did not have one bad meal … the food was fantastic including the pool menu. Service was impeccable, I liked having a butler at your service, made everything run like a well oiled machine. Everyone was extremely friendly. The gym was well equipped and large. The spa was extremely expensive, a ninety minute massage was $600 not including tip. It was the low season, construction was taking place and it was very loud at the pool, which was a bummer. We were there in August and it is very very hot. We are from Texas and that didn’t matter.

I’m staying here on a business trip. I brought my daughter and her fried thinking they could enjoy themselves while I work. I’m in my room, 303, right now. It’s 9:22pm. Someone is having a party and the loud music they are playing is coming through the walls of my room. It sounds like I’m at the party. They are now playing horrible rap. So, I paid a ton of money for this place and what I get is terrible loud music all night. I’m so mad!!!! Never coming back.

6 days last minute…and worth it

We snuck away last minute and picked Zadun thru Chase points… we were certainly not disappointed. I’ll be brief enough yet informative 🤣 There was some things that weren’t 10/10, but let’s start with the good! We booked 5 days before our trip and were immediately contacted by property asking for preferences, needs, transportation , etc.. just as one would expect from a 5 star Ritz Carlton Reserve property. Down to when we wanted housekeeping during the day and turn down at night. Any needs that arose were met immediately and followed through to completion. The pre-trip attention to detail, communication, follow thru, and check-ins after arrival and each day were spot on omnipresent yet non-intrusive. Well done to the entire staff especially our personal concierge / butler Ariadna. She was always there yet in the shadows.. and the personal touches , from chips in the room for snacks ( not standard) , pillow preference, a little anniversary cake awaiting us on arrival and bottle of bubbly as a gift on our last night… she was amazing! We stayed on property every night except one.. and although we did Humo (their high end dining) one night.. we preferred to sit and enjoy the perfect weather most nights at Candil (bar/apps/food) and benefited from Xomara’s expert navigation through the menu (drinks and food) . Xomara’s real talent tho was her personable presence and loving touch… please give her all the love if you go! I hope the management recognizes her, Ariadna, Mario at the adult pool area.. and all the tremendously hard working staff they employ! Less than perfect.. yet still fantastic: We booked a massage for relaxing on our second morning. The massage itself was amazing… That being said… we paid $1200 ($600’each) for 90 Minute treatments. (Including gratuity) I’ll just give my impression after having the same at several properties (the Cape, Viceroy, and One and Only Palmilla). The treatment is almost always about the intuitive hands of the therapist…. I’m sorry I don’t remember mine. But it did not disappoint. Outside of that, it’s about the experience and facilities. The facilities at Zadun are good. Not amazing… not Great. They are good. Not $600’good. The men’s locker room was small, unimpressive, understocked. But clean, calm, and adequate. Except …. that the steam room was “under maintenance”. This seems to be the tagline for so many resorts when a feature is broken. When asked if it would be available anytime during our visit, the answer was.. undetermined . I personally LOVE to use the sauna, steam room, cold plunge, etc… when in Cabo. I like the afternoon away from the intense sun myself… so I value these options more than some. Our previous visit was One and Only Palmilla.. and one of the highlights was an unlimited use of the cold plunge / jacuzzi/ sauna facilities. That is high value to me. Zadun’s policy is $110’US anytime you want to spend time in the spa facility… 10 minutes or 2 hours. Thankfully since the steamroom was under “maintenance”‘ they agreed to allow me an extra session at no charge. I would recommend (to sell more packages by the way) that they consider offering unlimited of all spa facilities when purchasing a spa treatment . How do they lose? That’s all the “less Than perfect”. All in all I can say it was all we wanted and needed it to be!
