Very nice resort!

Beautiful hotel right on the beach! The rooms are clean and comfy. If you’re a light sleeper, ask for a room on the beachside to avoid the noise from vehicles throughout the night. Would definitely stay here again!

Lovely Stay in San Juan Close to Everything

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We recently spent several nights at the Royal Sonesta San Juan and had a wonderful stay. The location is excellent—just a quick, roughly $20 cab ride from the airport. Despite being so close, aircraft noise was minimal, and the hotel is within walking distance of numerous restaurants, shops, and conveniences throughout Isla Verde. The property itself is beautiful and very popular. We visited during Puerto Rico's prom season, and there seemed to be events taking place almost every evening, giving the hotel a lively atmosphere. One of the biggest highlights was the food. The beach restaurant, Ocean Breeze, exceeded our expectations at every meal. We enjoyed the pizza, smash burger, and a grilled Caesar salad topped with incredibly tender skirt steak. The standout dish, however, was the branzino—quite simply the best I've ever had. The spicy margarita was also excellent, with cucumber providing a refreshing counterpoint to the heat. We also had dinner at Sottovento. The food was very good, but the service was exceptional and among the best we've experienced in a long time. Food and beverage prices are certainly not inexpensive, but we consistently felt the quality justified the cost. We skipped the hotel breakfast buffet due to the price and instead enjoyed Mi Casita across the street and the nearby grocery store café, both of which were delicious and affordable. The beach is beautiful, and the beach team works incredibly hard to secure chairs and umbrellas for guests. It is worth noting that the hotel sells a significant number of day passes. On Sunday, the pool area became extremely crowded. While the pool is attractive, it is not quite as large as it appears in the hotel's social media photos. By Monday morning, the water seemed a bit cloudy from the heavy use the day before. Guests should also understand that this is a hotel rather than a full-service resort. If you're looking for organized pool activities and entertainment, this may not be the place for you. For us, that was perfectly fine. Our sixth-floor room offered partial views of the ocean and pool. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. The room included a small balcony, which was nice for stepping outside and enjoying the view, though it was not furnished with chairs. One practical challenge was the lack of a clothesline, drying rack, or other efficient way to hang wet swimsuits and beachwear. While the bathroom was nice, the rain shower was the true star—absolutely magnificent and one of the best hotel showers I've experienced. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, professional, and eager to help. Housekeeping missed cleaning our room the day before departure, but otherwise did a very good job. We also noticed a daily $60 charge for a "high floor" room that we had not received. Once we brought it to the hotel's attention, the charge was promptly removed without issue. One of the highlights of our stay involved my severe latex allergy. Before arriving, I communicated with Waldemar Rios, the Director of Food & Beverage, by both email and phone. Upon arrival, we were pleased to learn that the hotel uses nitrile gloves rather than latex gloves, allowing me to enjoy my meals without worry. Mr. Rios was incredibly helpful throughout the process and provided a level of service that exceeded any hotel experience we've had before. He took my concerns seriously, followed up personally, and made sure I felt comfortable and safe during our stay. I was especially grateful for the opportunity to meet him in person and thank him for his outstanding customer service. Overall, the Royal Sonesta combines a beautiful beachfront location, excellent dining, comfortable accommodations, and outstanding staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return.

The Loyal Royal Sonesta

My daughter and I travel to PR from 5/23 to 5/27/20026 and stood at the Royal Sonesta, PR. (The 3rd stay) Upon my return I realized that I left a total of 500 dollars well hidden in my room. I contacted the resort and was connected with the Supervisor Irianni RR, she went to the room and recovered my money promising she will assure I get my money back. An email was sent to me by lost and found with options on how I would like to receive my package. On June 1, 2026, I received my money in full. I would like to make note that there are still good and honest people in the world. Irianni renew my faith in people, she went above and beyond and i am indebted to her. As far as the Resort as previously noted this is my 3rd stay, the people, the rooms and the overall resort is amazing. Easy to get to everything. No need for me to stay any where else when visiting PR. The Royal Sonesta has everything I need including honesty and people you can trust.

Naomy Oquendo is an outstanding employee at Karaya Restaurant. Her customer service is truly A+. She has a contagious energy, a friendly personality, and, most importantly, an excellent knowledge of the menu. Simply excellent—5 stars for her! And compliments to the chef as well; the food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended!

Overall great vacation. Cant wait to start planning the next with Luxury Link. Please note this is a great hotel but showing a lot of wear. Here are some specifics:

Location - Great
Pool - Great
Akua Pool bar and staff - Great
Beach bar and staff - Great
Aleli cafe breakfast and staff - Great

I didn't know that there was a gift shop or an Italian restaurant until my second day there (not listed on hotel website).

Hotel "club" room - Good, clean, comfortable

Would have been Great if the sliding door from the room to the pool area wasn't so hard to use. My wife gave up after day one and walked around to get to pool. This was a BIG PROBLEM for us as it kind of defeats the purpose.

Poor water pressure.

The club room comes with buffet brekfast so the Luxury Link perk was kind of redundant.

Karaya bar - very good, usually busy, so service was a bit slow but food was good.
