An Unforgettable Stay at Tierra Atacama

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

A huge congratulations to Carol, Andrea, Ignacio, Sebastián, Nicolás, and the entire amazing team at Tierra Atacama. It’s not only a wonderful place to disconnect and find peace—it’s the people who make it truly special.

Great Desert Retreat

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

This review is from our 5 night stay at Tierra Atacama in June of 2026 Service – The service throughout our stay was outstanding. While we came primarily for the excursions, much of our enjoyment came from our daily interactions with the staff. Sebastian and Diego were always a pleasure behind the bar. No request was ever too much, and we looked forward every evening to their creativity in crafting a nightly cocktail. The waitstaff—including Sofia, Alejandro, Iggy, Bastian, and others—could not have been more welcoming or enjoyable. A special thank you as well to Carol, Pierre, and Maria for going above and beyond to ensure our stay was memorable. Excursions – As a benefit of booking a suite, we were able to enjoy private excursions throughout our stay. I would say our initial guide pairing was simply a mismatch in personalities and expectations regarding what we wanted from the experience. After the first day, we spoke with Maria and Pierre, who could not have handled the situation more professionally. They were extremely receptive to our feedback and quickly arranged for a different guide for the remainder of our stay. I won't mention the original guide by name, as I have seen many positive comments about the individual and believe it was simply a matter of fit rather than fault. What stood out was how quickly and thoughtfully the hotel staff responded to ensure we had the best possible experience. Our new guide, Alonso, was fantastic. He took us to the Tatio geysers and Guatin Gatchi Valley, and we finished our trip with a climb to the summit of Cerro Toco. Alonso was incredibly knowledgeable, professional and friendly. He listened to our preferences and then made helpful suggestions that were aligned with our interests and desired activities. We felt as though we were active participants in the planning of our schedule during our stay. Alonso was encouraging when we were hiking and was supporting us while having fun each step of the way! We enjoyed Alonso’s friendly and fun demeanor while also being professional and attentive to our safety and comfort. We cannot express our gratitude enough towards the positive impact he had on our stay! Food – We were both very impressed with the dining options. We never had any difficulty finding appealing choices on the daily menu, and there were also more familiar options, such as pasta and burgers, for anyone craving something simpler. The included house wines were quite good, and premium selections were available for those looking to upgrade. We also had the opportunity to enjoy two barbecue dinners accompanied by local music, which were highlights of our stay. Rooms – As mentioned, we booked a suite for our stay. The views were breathtaking, and the room amenities were excellent. Our favorite feature was the in-room fireplace, which created a cozy atmosphere in the evenings. Location – The hotel is located just outside San Pedro de Atacama. Complimentary transportation is available for guests who wish to visit town, which we found to be a pleasant way to spend an hour or two exploring the local area. Overall, Tierra Atacama delivered an exceptional experience. The combination of outstanding service, memorable excursions, excellent food, and beautiful accommodations made for a truly unforgettable trip.

Excellent Stay in the Atacama Desert

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Overall an excellent stay. Highly recommend. Booked suite to have a private guide and flexibility to set daily itinerary. Suite was beautiful and pictures don't do it justice. We loved the room. Many features we never used like the retractable sunshade on the deck. Pool was too cold in March as it was not heated. We played with the fireplaces but never really used them. After a few days, the main critique of the room was sofa not comfortable for long sitting, neither was lounge chair on the patio, also with the many electronic features of the room, there were lots of switches that needed sorting out. The garden areas that you had to walk through to get to the main area and the views from the room were beautiful. Thought that the food was excellent overall as well as overall service. We visited Tierra Patagonia next and thought service in the restaurant was better at Tierra Atacama. We frequently had Carol as our server who did an excellent job. Valentina also went above and beyond. Pool was cold this time of the year. Hot tub and indoor pool was at a nice temperature. Really thought they excelled in the excursion area. We had sent them a rough idea of what we wanted to do ahead of time. Our main goal of the trip was to climb Cerro Toco so our excursion plan included an acclimatization plan for increasing altitude. We did the most common tours mainly hiking but we biked Devil's Throat which was also fun. I was glad we splurged for the private guide, Alfonso was so knowledgeable in so many subjects that we learned a lot and had fun doing it. We also could adjust our pace that worked for us and he always knew the best time to start to avoid the crowds. A side note as a comparison, Tierra Patagonia also with a private guide always had after excursion snacks for the ride home in addition to an assortment of drinks. We thought having the snacks was a nice added touch for the drive back. Both hotels had granola and other snacks you could stock up on before an excursion but we got surprised with some really nice snacks for the ride back at Patagonia

A great way to experience the Atacama

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Stayed for 4 nights. Really liked this hotel. Rooms comfortable with great views and great views around the hotel too with big windows. Food excellent . What really made it was a very attentive and friendly team - who also seem to really get on between themselves. Spa was excellent too and although we didnt do too many excursions (having been to the Atacama before) the ones we did were excellent and very well guided. Shout out to Carol and Fernando (on the Salar Atacama) but all the staff v good. Only thing to mention is that the dining room chairs were too low and more comfortable recliner chairs on the room balcony might be an idea. Overall highly recommend and thanks for making it such a great stay.

Incredible Experience in the Desert!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Our group of 12 guys just wrapped up a phenomenal stay at Tierra Atacama, and it absolutely crushed expectations. The design of the lodge is top-tier, and the views out toward the volcano are unmatched. The adventure program here is flawless. The guides are incredibly knowledgeable and dialed into exactly what a group of our size wanted out of the desert. From trekking through the rugged terrain of Moon Valley, biking in the canyons, to the incredible stargazing under crystal-clear skies, every outing was perfectly executed. They handled the logistics seamlessly, making it effortless to get out and explore the best of the Atacama landscape. What separates this place from any other luxury lodge is the crew. The manager, Maria Jose, runs a world-class operation, and the entire staff is hands-down the best in the business. They were remarkably sharp, genuinely friendly, and anticipated everything we needed before we even asked. Coming back from a long day of excursions to a perfectly run lodge and an incredible bar setup made the trip. They were very kind to a group of guys our size. If you’re planning a group trip to Chile, Tierra Atacama is the ultimate base camp. Massive thanks to the team for an unforgettable stay. We’ll definitely be back.
