Tierra Atacama shines as brightly as the stars that twinkle above it by night, within the vast and arid northern desert on the outskirts of the small village of San Pedro de Atacama. Overlooking the Andean mountain range and nearby Licancabur Volcano, the retreat is designed to immerse guests in the landscape and provide a luxury base for those eager to embrace the spirit of the altiplano. With dramatic views of the surrounding desert and majestic Licancabur Volcano, twenty eight elegant rooms offer a luxurious retreat and have been designed to bring the outside in, with subtle nods to the region's rich culture and history.

Overall the property is lovely! Really enjoyed the stay and have a lot of good things to say. Everyone that works there is knowledgeable and helpful. We had some amazing guides throughout that made the experience. (Positive) All of the staff at the property was lovely and incredibly helpful. Can’t say enough good things about everyone from the check-in, drivers, housekeeping staff, etc. The guides, especially Vladi and Angela, were outstanding. They truly make or break the experience, and they are top tier. Extremely knowledgeable, engaging, and fun. I expected to dislike the group excursions, but they ended up being one of my favorite parts of the stay. We met great people and had a fantastic time. The pool & property overall is lovely. Good lounge areas to hang out both inside and out. Also enjoyed the massage we had. (Negative) My only on property negative is the food, especially after going to the Patagonia property. There is a really big discrepancy between the quality here and other Tierra properties. It’s just ok (3/5). If you visit Patagonia you will notice the difference. This did not affect my overall rating of the property itself, but the reservation process was extremely frustrating (0/5). We stayed at two Tierra properties, which comes with a discount, and had several questions before booking. Communication with the Jennifer on the reservations team was poor. Responses were slow and incomplete, to the point that I involved my travel agent. We ultimately lost the room we originally wanted. The experience was bad enough that I considered switching to Awasi, but they had no availability. This is an area that clearly needs improvement. Activity recs: Valle de los Cactus, Guatin hike: This was our favorite activity. The landscape is diverse, so it never feels boring. The person who booked the hike described it as incredibly difficult and kind of scared me off initially until a guide that happened to be there and explained it better. So glad we went. It was only 3hrs so I wouldn’t consider it super challenging for a fit person. We also did 14/19m hikes in Patagonia so would use that for reference of physical fitness. Horseback riding through Marz Valley: Highly recommend. The valley is beautiful and riding was a really fun way to see it. Salt flats: if you are interested in learning more about the salt flats and seeing the little town this was nice. Lots of flamingos here. If you are short on time you could skip this though. Geysers: They were cool to see, and there were flamingos on the way. It’s very cold in the morning, so dress warmly. Rainbow valley: I’d pass on this. It’s a long drive for two walks. Hot springs: Didn’t get to do this but heard great things about it from other guests. Stargazing: They do this in the back of the hotel. Easy activity after dinner, and Atacama is one of the best places in the world to stargaze. The guide is knowledgeable and makes the entire thing engaging.

Lovely hotel in a good location with pool, spa and gym. Very modern and well kept. Nice lounge bar and restaurant area. The food and drinks which are all included were of a good standard and well presented and served. All the staff are very friendly and always willing to please. The excursions and activities available to see local places of interest are well organised and very interesting to enjoy this amazing area. I’d thoroughly recommend this hotel. Thank you to Chris and the whole team for looking after us so well.

We had the most incredible experience staying at Tierra and are confident it made our Atacama experience what it was. The service is second to none - warm, attentive, consistent, and constantly coming from a place of yes. No detail is missed. The food was phenomenal, the excursions were great, the rooms were beautiful and of course the Atacama Desert is an amazing place. Special shoutout to Chris who checked us in and made us feel right at home!
