The land of Tierra Atacama is part of the Ayllú de Yaye. Tierra Atacama Hotel and Spa is built on the site of the old cattle corral, where the drovers who brought cattle from Argentina to the Port of Antofagasta stopped to feed and rest their animals after the tough crossing of the Andes. They restocked on forage and water before continuing their journey. The architects of Tierra Atacama decided to incorporate the ancient adobe walls into the entrance of the hotel, preserving them as a monument to the history of the area. Tierra Hotels has an adventure spa philosophy. We believe our guests want to experience the outdoors actively and adventurously and then be welcomed back to the hotel with a variety of relaxing options ranging from a simple nap to one of our professional spa services.

My husband and I decided to spend our babymoon at Tierra Atacama and we couldn't have asked for a better trip. The entire team, from the dining staff to the guides to the spa attendants, were incredibly friendly, attentive and accomodating. It was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. The food was outstanding, as were the accomodations and trips. We can't wait to come back!

The Atacama Desert is spectacular. Tierra Atacama offers many excursions. We chose the active ones, although there are more sedate excursions available, also. Then, when you return to the hotel, you are greeted with top-notch accommodations and service, and all of the gourmet food you could desire. It will spoil you for anywhere else!

We’ve been to 53 countries and Tierra Atacama stands out as one of the best places we’ve ever stayed. The staff made us feel welcome and no request was too big. Christian in particular went out of his way to make sure everything went to plan and was always happy to help. Our guide Paula was fantastic—very knowledgeable about each place we visited and always had great suggestions. Esteban, our driver, made sure we got everywhere on time and safely, even on some of the bumpier routes (of which there are quite a few!) The food was impressive! Every meal was delicious and the service second to none. BBQ night was a highlight—tons of great meats, salads, and even pizza. Big thanks to Ignacio, Aledia, Carol, Royer, Benjamin, and Carolina at the bar—they were all fantastic! The rooms were amazing—recently updated, tons of space and super comfortable. We loved the outdoor shower and private plunge pool. Housekeeping came twice a day and kept things ship shape. The spa was also a standout. We each did treatments three days in a row and would’ve booked more if we’d had the time. The staff there were amazing and there were so many treatments to choose from. If you’re planning a trip to the Atacama, we can’t recommend Tierra Atacama enough. Everyone there made our stay something really special, and we absolutely loved the experience. ⸻

My wife and I stayed at the newly opened Tierra Atacama for 6 nights in late April. Atacama had been on my radar for years, meaning I had done a lot of research on various accommodation options. If you're reading Tierra reviews, it's because you're looking for an elevated experience and understand there are only a handful of options. Bottom line: Tierra is absolutely fantastic. Now for the why... Important to note, we were on a program where all excursions were private. Some people may enjoy larger group experiences which is a matter of personal preference. For private tours, we enjoyed the flexibility and options to do things not possible with larger groups. If you are more adventurous and really looking for a custom experience, I highly recommend private. Our guide, Fernanda was excellent! She worked tirelessly to ensure we got the most out of our time in Atacama while also paying close attention to our safety as some excursions were physically difficult. Her dedication and understanding of the region and history added so much to each excursion. If you have a longer stay planned, I would definitely attempt one of the high elevation volcano hikes - reaching the summit is a rewarding experience. The hotel itself is a true oasis in the desert. Inside the stone walls you have the same sense of relaxation you would expect at any high-end wellness retreat. It was easy to forget how far we actually were from major population centers. The entire staff was engaging and always available to help. Dining was a treat every day with fixed and rotating options for every taste. I apologize for not remembering everyone's' names, but Benjamin, Carol and Royer really made us feel at home. Like Iceland, Atacama is one of those rare places on earth that is hard to describe without actually being there. I could not more highly recommend a journey there. I have read many takes on the best time to go, but I can't imagine a better time than April. Daytime temps were always quite comfortable for outdoor activities and the nights were cool. In closing, all I can say is you will not be disappointed at Tierra. I'm not a big 'reviewer', but the experience at Tierra deserved one.

Tierra Atacama is probably the friendliest and best run hotel/lodge we have ever stayed at. The suite rooms are beautiful but the real reason to stay is the friendliness and professionalism of the all staff especially the restaurant servers who make you feel welcome and special ,the great food ( it is truly a wonderful selection offered daily with excellent wines) and of course the excursions. Paula was our guide and she was perfect, she helped us decide which excursions would be best for us. We are older than most clients being in our 70s so physically we needed to be careful with the altitude, but with her guidance we saw and experienced everything we could wish to see with no problems whatsoever. My only regret is that we didn’t stay longer and get to take advantage of the spa, but maybe next time😀
