Hotel Casa del Mar, the grandest of the opulent Santa Monica, California beach clubs, dates back to the city's booming Gold Coast years and is one of the most luxurious hotels on the Pacific coast. Built in 1926, the hotel with its 129 elegant guest rooms and suites - including three magnificent two-story penthouses - features incomparable panoramas of the ocean, from Malibu to Palos Verdes. Luxurious guest rooms evoke the mood and style of the Italian and French Rivieras and feature Venetian-designed furnishings. The beach has never been quite so elegant as it is at Hotel Casa Del Mar.

I almost never feel compelled to write a review, but Casa Del Mar is worth all of the praise. My wife and I just got back from five nights there, and we were pleased with every moment of our stay. The staff is incredible here -- everyone is so helpful and attentive. We spent a considerable amount of time at the serene pool deck, alternating between the pool and hot tub. The space is cozy and relaxing with a beautiful view of the Pacific. The lounge chairs are pillow-top -- some of the most comfortable loungers I've ever had on vacation! The staff at the pool deck -- particularly Jessica -- were so attentive and welcoming, greeting you with iced cold water as soon as you sat down and making sure you have any food or drinks that you could want. One morning, we even ordered room service for an early breakfast, and the crew helped us wheel the cart out onto the lower deck so that we could have our breakfast outside. The restaurant was incredible with, once again, beautiful sweeping views of the beach. We opted to do the Sunday Prime Rib Roast for dinner, which was delicious! You can watch the sunset over Santa Monica Pier while enjoying your meal and drinks. They have a lovely lobby bar that we took advantage of, and they have lots of lounge spaces where they will serve you drinks and food as well while you listen to live music nightly. One note -- breakfast was very good but very pricey. We also ate breakfast at the sister resort Shutters so we could sit out on the beach, but their breakfast is just as expensive. The room itself is gorgeous and so homey. It feels like walking into someone's charming living room with book shelves and books, bright colors, and lush carpets. The bed was really comfortable -- and that's coming from someone who almost always has back and neck aches when sleeping in a new bed on vacation. The bed is very high -- my wife said it gives new meaning to the expression "climb into bed" so be ready! We stayed on the fifth floor, which was so convenient to the pool deck. Casa Del Mar is one of the very few hotels directly on the beach, which made it easy for us to go for morning walks along the pedestrian path near the beach and stroll through the nearby Santa Monica Pier. Everything at this hotel was perfect -- if you're considering something else that might be a little less expensive, this is worth the splurge. We will be happy to return in the future!

We just spent a couple nights at the casa Del Mar hotel and I wish I would have spent the entire week. Service was great. Room was perfect. They made our entire stay very pleasant. We enjoyed the location and the proximity to the fair’s wheel. We will come back next year for the World Cup.

Stunning building & location. Wide room disparity. Interiors are lovely but experience is very location-dependent. 3 stays: first room off lobby was a little noisy but fine, second was nice (no view but upper level), last was not good (lower level that feels like being in the basement - half height window with view of dirt hole lot & chainlink fence, next to service room with lots of related noise, weird sounds of impending plumbing disaster - that thankfully never materialized but woke me in the middle of the night multiple nights). I travel to SM monthly on corporate account - front desk did not ask about my experience but I volunteered on check out - was told without apology this is the standard for our contract. My colleagues recommend The Proper, Huntley and Oceana. Looks like that’s where I will be headed next.

I would return here. The hotel itself was beautiful and the people were incredibly nice. There was live music in the evenings and activities on the weekends like yoga. We ate breakfast at the hotel - it was pricy but delicious. The location was perfect and the pool was well-designed to accommodate a relaxing atmosphere. The one constructive criticism I would provide is that there seemed to be a disconnect between the front desk and other areas of the hotel which often resulted in taking more than one conversation to accomplish a task like having your room cleaned. Overall, a positive experience.

Having stayed here before we were expecting a good experience. Booked a different room type which was great by the pool. The finish and quality right through the hotel is perfect, every staff member are right on the button in terms of care and kindness, whilst always being genuine. The bar and lounge areas are beautifully furnished and so comfortable. In the evening great live music embellishes. Location is obviously unbeatable. I don’t think you can improve on this for a stay in Santa Monica or LA. Perfection.

I thought the hotel was spectacular. I have stayed in many 4- and 5-star hotels around the world, but never thought I would find such a beautiful hotel in Santa Monica.

I was fortunate enough to stay at Casa Del Mar my last two business trips. My room was very comfortable and well-appointed. The fluffy white bed and pillows – divine! The entire staff I encountered were helpful and courteous – from maids to wait staff in the lobby bar and restaurant. Everyone made me feel welcome – rockstar treatment though I'm far from that status. A peaceful haven after a busy day of work.
