Chronicles of my Trip (April 16 to 20, 2026)

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

My stay was tremendously rewarding and far exceeded my expectations. I am Dominican, and throughout my life I had always known and walked around the hotel’s surroundings. However, it was not until I moved to New York and reached my thirties that I finally had the opportunity to stay there and experience firsthand the beautiful colonial property I had admired and dreamed of visiting for many years. I stayed at the hotel from April 16 to April 20 (five days) while attending a friend’s wedding in Santo Domingo. One of the reasons I ultimately decided to stay at the hotel during my visit to the Dominican Republic was the generous 40% discount offered to wedding guests, which made the experience possible and even more appealing. I was pursuing, and was my dream, to stay here with my partner, who’s was visiting for the first time, during this trip since he’s politico and loves history as much as I do. From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding. We were welcomed with a complimentary drink, the doors were opened for us, and assistance with our luggage was provided immediately. The front desk experience was excellent, although unfortunately I do not remember the names of the team members who assisted us during check-in. Mr. Daniel Merán escorted me to my room and, from the day I arrived until the day I left, consistently provided exceptional service and attention. Beyond his kindness and professionalism, he was knowledgeable about every question I asked and always willing to help. The Colonial Room is exactly as pictured. It offers the intimate, rustic, Old-World atmosphere that anyone choosing this type of room would hope to find. It truly captures the charm and character of the historic property. On the day I arrived, I decided to walk through the corridors and grounds to admire the architecture and surrounding buildings. During that stroll, I met Clara Vélez, a member of the staff who left a wonderful impression on me. I am deeply grateful to her because she took the time to share the architectural and historical origins of the hotel, explaining how the different colonial houses were unified, who their original owners were, the gardens, the chapel visible across the way, and even the various plants and their fragrances throughout the property. As someone who loves history, this became one of the most memorable moments of my stay. It felt like a fortunate coincidence that our paths crossed. Clara was also consistently present throughout my visit and always willing to assist with anything I needed. I would also like to thank Manuel from the valet parking team for his attentiveness and professionalism, especially during the late nights and early mornings when I needed to access the parking area. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have stayed at such an extraordinary hotel. The property itself is beautiful, but what truly elevated the experience was the warmth, professionalism, and hospitality of the staff; of course, as we Dominicans are when it comes to host! I would gladly return again and again.

Restaurant 1502

6 of us (4 adults, 2 kids 11 years old) went today for lunch. Chose not to sit in the ac section of the restaurant. Ordered 4 Mahi Mahi which, according to the menu was supposed to be with coconut. No coconut was detected and the fish was dry-fried. One pulpo which was ok but the grilled veggies were very oily. One burger which was ok. One Club sandwich for the other kid which apparently was forgotten either by the waitress or in the kitchen. Came out when everyone else was done eating. Menu said the Club comes with bacon which was nowhere to found. Table was only half cleared for about 7 to 8 minutes. So we asked for dessert. Our waitress informed us that her shift was over and we need to pay our bill now and another waitress would be in charge for our desserts. The first waitress was clearly not trained which is not her fault but the supervisor should be made aware that training is essential. Overall not a good experience

Beware of false charges to your card!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The hotel was good in terms of service, location, amenities. But upon our return, we noticed a few days later that we were charged an extra amount by the hotel. We followed up and they told us they charged us for the minibar. During checkout, they verified in the room and at the front desk at least 5 times that no minibar was used, and then settled our bill before we left. We have been following up with them for 15 days to get the charge reversed, and despite all ther stories about the reversal, we still haven't got our refund! Beware of false charges and sweet talk!

Staying at Nicholas De Ovando

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

The location is quiet and feels very elegant. The employees are kind, welcoming, and easy to approach. Even though it’s very hot outside, the beautiful plant scenery makes the atmosphere relaxing. The rooms are decorated beautifully with a Spanish colonial style that I absolutely love. It’s definitely worth the money if you’re looking for peace and relaxation.
