Beautiful cave hotel in great location

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 10 hours ago

This cave hotel was simply breathtaking! It was one of our best stays during our 2 weeks in Greece. The hotel room we stayed in had a private (small) dipping pool and patio, and overlooked Amoudi Bay with beautiful sunset views! Our room was very spacious and clean. Important note: if you have bad knees or have difficulty climbing stairs, are overweight, etc. speak to someone before you book your room - our room was 125 steps down from the main level - yes 125 steps - and we are in shape 55 y/o's and found it was TOUGH to do 2x daily. After the 125 steps, you need to walk more to get to the main street in Oia. We decided it was worth it though to have that VIEW at sunset! It was a nice location but know that in Sept. Oia literally goes quiet by 9pm in September so if you are looking for a party atmosphere and bars, etc. stay in Fira or Firostefani, and just visit Oia. Would definitely stay here again.

Awesome Experience!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Enjoyed a wonderful 4 night stay with my daughters in celebration of my 60th birthday! Esperas staff were welcoming, kind and helpful with every aspect of our stay. We had beautiful and clean accommodations overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and the location was very convenient for shopping, dining and enjoying the area. The plunge pool was an added bonus and we enjoyed having that option outside our door. Breakfast was amazing whether delivered to our room or eating at the bar overlooking the sea. The pool was lovely and offered a great place to unwind and relax. I would return tomorrow if I could, this was a great start to an awesome trip over a 15 day adventure. Esperas you outdid yourselves, thank you for making our trip so memorable!

Understaffed and Unapologetic.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The service here was uniquely awful. Our ride service dropped us off and let us know someone would come get our bags. One man came about 5 minutes later to grab another groups bags, without saying a word to us. After another 5-10 minutes, we are calling the hotel and no one is picking up, so we start walking up and eventually after several flights of stairs, and a few wrong turns we find the hotel. No apologies offered for us having to carry our own bags or the lack of communication and failure to pick up the phone. The only explanation offered was that they only have one man to carry the bags of 12 guests checking in off the same ferry and he is old. And they only have one person at the front desk for checking in and he had to give the other guests tours. Overall, would not recommend it here. Beautiful views but the hotel is grossly understaffed and unapologetic. Plus, the beds were quite uncomfortable (like sleeping on a rock) and the rooms quite dark and outdated. Not worth the proximity to Oia.

Nice location, but had some issues

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

First - the good. Interesting location in Oia, great view of caldera/sunset. Reception was friendly and helpful. Pool/lounges were picturesque. They didn’t let us check out late (3pm ferry), but did offer us the use of a shower by the pool. Now, the not so good. You’ll see several mixed reviews lately, and I would agree. No screens on the low-to-the-ground windows, which meant you had to close everything at night, no air/stuffy. The second night, power was out for most of it (apparently a common occurrence in Oia), but it meant a difficult night (no electricity for husband’s CPAP), no air in the room (without open windiws, no AC), and very minimal breakfast (the included nice breakfast was replaced by a minimalistic one, given lack of stove/oven or hot water). $571/night is a steep price for a suboptimal experience. We heard nothing from the hotel/management, except to ask for our credit card to pay in full. Overall, we would pick somewhere else next time.

Paradise!

We stayed for 3 nights, and did not want to leave! Our suite was beautiful, clean, and had a plunge pool. Gorgeous views from our patio and pool area. Delicious breakfasts-you order the day before. Omelettes, fresh fruit, bacon, yogurt...They organized a private catamaran tour for us and it was amazing. All the staff were kind, friendly, and hard-working, including Dimitrios, Maria, Ishmael, Mohammed, and James, and many more whose names I didn't learn. We had a couple snacks from the pool bar-tasty and convenient. Do be prepared for stairs.
