Reviews for Santo Maris Oia Luxury Suites & Spa

Not worth the high price!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Overall verdict: not worth the $800 a night price. I don't like writing bad reviews but I wanted to share our experience because this is a very expensive hotel and we did not have the best experience. My husband and I came here for our honeymoon. While the resort itself is a convenient location to Oia and offers beautiful sea views (although NOT caldera views as its located on the other side of Oia), this hotel has some issues that I feel should be noted for a hotel touting 5 star services with a high price tag. We checked in around 330PM, 30 minutes after the stated check in time. Our honeymoon suite was not ready, so they sent us to the pool bar to wait and get a complimentary drink. After what felt like stalling, we were finally taken to our room almost two hours after check-in time. The room we were given was unfinished with a poor presentation for a honeymoon arrival. (See pics of chopped chunks of strawberries and note the champagne was sour). There were plaster marks on the bathroom counters, an exposed light socket, dust/plaster dust on the counters, surfaces and drawers, the mini fridge was never used (still in wrapping), not plugged in and not set up or stocked, there were stickers on the bathroom door as if it had just been put in place, a large gap in the tiles of our patio with trash visible, leftover tools and trash in front of our pool area, etc. The room was in the new portion of the hotel and obviously not ready for guests but we were placed there anyway. After discussing the issue with hotel management, we were given the option to move rooms (a downgrade) or stay the night in our current room and move the next day. We decided we'd wasted enough of our time with late check in and room issues, and we stayed the night in our unfinished room to avoid changing rooms that same day and again the next day. I called later in the evening to request an extra blanket that was never brought. Normally I don't even touch the mini bar but upon arrival to the hotel we were told the water is not potable and to drink bottled water, but bottled water was not provided. We called twice for water, which also was never brought to us. In the morning i was so disappointed in their service and informed management that we would like a refund on the rest of our stay and we were changing hotels. Management then offered us an upgraded room with a pool and hot tub and asked us to allow them the chance to make it up to us, so my husband agreed that we'd stay. In hindsight I would've changed hotels despite the inconvenience of moving. The new room was nice (although hot tub jets did not work) and we were able to enjoy the rest of our stay, but overall I felt conned. The place felt more like a Holiday Inn with nice views posing as a high end luxury resort. I felt duped. The food was average to poor (the caprese salad consisted of a bowl of cherry tomatoes with a blob of mozzarella), room service was slow to non-existent with it often taking an hour or more, service at breakfast was hit or miss, with us often just getting our coffees when we were finishing our meals, or them remembering to bring us coffee but not orange juice (never both), half of the food menu was not available to order at the main restaurant, and a bizarre spa experience. I do want to note the hotel did comp us our first nights stay, and did provide us with a free dinner that first night including a bottle of wine. They redid our honeymoon set up in the new room they put us in with fresh strawberries dipped in chocolate this time, and a new bottle of champagne. The staff were very nice and the manager was respectful and helpful. Despite it not being caldera views, the views still are beautiful and the hotel is an easy walk to town. It is a nice hotel. But overall I just feel this hotel misses the mark for a luxury property and when paying $800 a night, I expected way better accommodations and service. This could be due to early season or new staff but the kinks were not worked out. We spent much more than we normally would because it was our honeymoon and it proved to not be worth it. At checkout we overheard another couple complaining about room service and food quality to the hotel manager so other guests had issues similar to ours.

Nice classes

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Really enjoyed my yoga classes with Katerina. Dancing flow and Greek goddess poses were a treat and a lovely way to start the day on a short break / to stretch after a flight. This was particularly good when the weather was poor. The gym area was pleasant and I also enjoyed morning swims in the pool beside my suite.

Possibly the most polite Saff in the world

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The highest honour I give give to the Santo Pure is it comes a very close second to the other 5 star hotels we've been fortunate to stay in Dubai - Abu Dhabi - Qatar etc. Although I thought I would miss the beach environment that we're used to. But we upgraded to a sun setting suite with all the trappings and the beach issues soon faded. Although this came at a some what eye. watering cost of €3500:00 extra for week. The staff here are professional personified, but to be honest the whole island have a very polite welcoming demeanor about them something I've not witnessed since Aruba. (With Exemption to the Beefbar restaurant.. avoid at all costs!!!!). A word of warning this hotel as with most in Oia are built into the hillsides so are very steep. This is soon forgotten with the views on offer. All in All a very pleasurable experience.

The Best Experience Ever!!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I’ve never felt so welcome to a country yet alone a resort. Santo has been by far the best experience. My husband and I are on our honeymoon and from the time we were pick up from the airport to the time we arrive we have been waited on both hand and foot. We experienced one of the best massages ever. Yea when you arrive and leave and they also sent us home with complimentary ones. Alex and Palos were so kind and had great attention to detail

The best yoga with Katerina!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I chose this resort for the yoga and yoga and it did not disappoint. The highlight was yoga lessons with Katerina! She brought a variety of classes from vinyasa morning ritual to strength building to meditation. I took 4 classes and wish I could have done more. Highly recommend!
