Hotel Sosei Sapporo - MGallery

Our second time at this wonderful hotel and we were as equally impressed as the first time. We were met by Akiko who was so good to us last visit. It is a good feeling to be remembered and greeted like friends. Our room was beautiful. The decor and layout were very good. There were beautiful fresh flowers on the coffee table, along with gifts of fruit and chocolates - such a nice touch. The lounge had moved into the restaurant and cocktails and canapes were still of a high quality. We went to the bar and were welcomed by Hiro, who was the bartender when we were last there. Again, it was nice to be remembered. Breakfast had a good choice of food and the staff very efficient - special callout to Mansera. I would not hesitate to stay again at this hotel.

We stayed at Hotel Sosei Sapporo – MGallery Collection for 4 nights. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, comfortable, and has a lovely atmosphere, but unfortunately, the hospitality and service did not live up to what we expected from an MGallery property. Our experience with the front desk was particularly disappointing. We arrived quite late on our first evening, around 9:00 PM, so we had very little interaction with the staff that night. On our departure day, our flight from CTS was not until 6:00 PM, so we politely asked whether a 1:00 PM late check-out might be possible. Instead of simply explaining the hotel’s policy, the front desk interaction felt unnecessarily uncomfortable, almost as though we were negotiating over every additional 30 minutes. We were eventually offered 12:30 PM, but even that was presented in a rather unpleasant manner, with explanations about needing rooms available for incoming guests at 2 pm?! Given that our departure was much later in the day, we felt that a little flexibility would have been a reasonable request. It was not the refusal itself that bothered us as much as the manner in which it was handled. Good hospitality is often about how you make a guest feel, even when you cannot accommodate a request. We also had an uncomfortable experience with luggage assistance. When we were checking out, 2 very petite young female staff members were sent to our room to assist with our luggage. Our bags were quite large and heavy, and it was difficult to watch them struggle to move them. In the end, my husband and brother had to step in and help. We certainly appreciated that the staff was trying to assist, but it seemed unfair to put such a physically demanding task on staff who were clearly not equipped to handle the weight. This could have been handled much more thoughtfully. The one bright spot was the breakfast team. The staff working in the restaurant were considerably warmer and more welcoming, and in particular, the non-Japanese staff member we encountered was exceptionally friendly and helpful. That was genuinely appreciated and was the most positive service experience we had during our stay. The location was also not ideal for us. It is quite removed from the main shopping areas and many of the restaurants we wanted to visit, making it less convenient than other hotels in Sapporo. Overall, this is a beautiful and nicely decorated hotel, but for us, the experience was missing the warmth, flexibility, and genuine hospitality that we value when traveling. We have stayed at many high-end hotels, and we believe that even small interactions can make a significant difference in how a stay is remembered. Unfortunately, despite the attractive property itself, the service experience left us disappointed, and we would not choose to stay at Hotel Sosei Sapporo again on a future visit to Sapporo.

I was really looking forward to my stay at the Hotel Sosei, and really wanted to love it. The "bones" are there, and the staff is excellent. However, my five nights were an absolute nightmare due to the poor air conditioning. We set the HVAC system to its lowest, which was 18.5 degrees, and the room didn't even get close. I understand that it's been a hot summer, however I've been to Sapporo in the past during a hot summer, stayed at a hotel 1/4 of the price, and the AC was superb. You just cannot put yourself out there as a pseudo luxury property and not have an acceptable system to keep guest comfortable. We did bring the issue up upon check in with the front desk, and they just dropped off another cooling fan, which really didn't help much. I even went out each night to Seico Mart or 711 to get extra ice hoping that more would help but to no avail. Between this and having to take cold showers before bedtime made the stay a lot of work. That being said, the property has the potential to become a great one. The hotel is part of the Sapporo Factory complex and is aesthetically pleasing. The room's beds would've been comfortable with better AC and sheets (rough and scratchy). Location wise, the property is a 10 minute walk from Sapporo Station. The main area of Sapporo Factory is across the street, and there is plenty of restaurants and shops, particularly if you're the outdoorsy type (North Face, Snow Peak, Mont Bell). Given the location, the hotel is really quiet. The clientele tends to be more couples and families, so it's not so much a crazy party hotel. We had one issue with a manager (she didn't have a name tag on maybe for a reason) telling me that our second booking was non-refundable. We decided that we wanted to leave Sapporo after five nights rather than six. The manager insisted that my second booking for the three final nights could not be changed, even though in their specific terms, I was still within the free cancellation period. She also told me that she couldn't do anything and that I needed to go through my travel agent. I did book through my travel advisor, who happens to be an Accor Preferred Partner and he wasn't too pleased with this. Luckily, Sahan at the front desk, listened to my explanation, viewed my documentation, and realized I was in the right. Sahan is definitely a really great guy and demonstrated so much professionalism as the middle man between me and the manager. Food and beverage wise, our package came with breakfast and a $100 credit to be used on F&B/incidentals. After having breakfast our first morning, we opted never to return. All the food seemed to be overcooked, variety and quality were average and the dining area was absolutely crazy busy. We opted to walk to the ANA Crowne Plaza all subsequent mornings for coffee and breakfast. I do not like leaving negative reviews. If it's a service laps, I always will let it slide, but I now see that I'm not the only person with this type of complaint. The property has the potential to be a great one, and I hope that they take these types of reviews to heart to make them fulfill their potential.

The staff is super friendly and accommodating. The breakfast buffet was good. Unfortunately the rooms are tiny.

We stayed here for five nights during our visit to Sapporo. The exterior of the building is rather plain, but the interior is beautifully designed, with quality materials and a warm, elegant atmosphere. The hotel is not located in the very centre of Sapporo, but we found the location convenient. Sapporo Station is about a 15-minute walk and a subway station is only a few minutes from the hotel. Our room, a deluxe with 2 queen size beds and heritage view, was spacious enough for 2 people, with very confortable beds. We would have just appreciated to get some more or stronger lights. The breakfast was excellent, offering a wide variety of both Japanese and Western options. As Accor Platinum members, we particularly appreciated access to the Executive Lounge. It was the most generous lounge we have experienced, both in terms of the selection of drinks and the quality and quantity of food available throughout the day. Overall, we had an excellent stay. The outstanding service (every member of staff was genuinely friendly, attentive and eager to help) throughout our stay, comfortable facilities and exceptional Executive Lounge would definitely make us choose this hotel again on a future visit to Sapporo.
