What a wonderful weekend getaway! We enjoyed the grounds, the food, service and location immensely. We live so close in San Rafael but it was a lovely romantic birthday getaway. Highly recommend it.

We wanted to get away to do a retreat to work on our small business and we found this amazing spot in Sausalito, a couple of hours away from us. We've been to the Bay Area many times but never knew about this great spot, built on the former Fort Baker and inside the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. It's tucked away just under the bridge, on a secluded bay and the views from the grounds are spectactular. The hotel was developed in 2008 and the former officer housing was turned into hotel rooms, and they also built a more modern set of rooms where the barracks used to be. There are a couple of original buildings that have the lobby and the restaurants and there are lots of nice touches inside, ceilings, wood and period photos and artwork. We were greeted warmly when we checked in and the bellman brought our bags up to the room for us while we had lunch. Which was nice because we were up a slight but steep hill. We had a modern room which worked out perfectly for us, it was right next to the Chapel where the yoga classes were held in the mornings and just a quick walk down to the restaurant for breakfast. We made were able to enjoy the spa, some wonderful yoga classes, a couple of great hikes around the property and evening happy hour in the lobby. So much was included which was great -bottled water in our rooms, a nice espresso machine, a starter set of snacks, and valet parking for our car. Our room was a nice size and we were able to get our work done and have plenty of room to relax. The bed was really comfortable. The shower/tub seemed a little dated, but the bathroom itself was big and the smart mirror was pretty neat. The best part of our stay was the service. Everyone was so nice and friendly and really took great care of us. It really is a special place.
