Reviews for The DeSoto

Good but could be great.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 18 hours ago

Good location, close to restaurants, etc. Rooms are good but not great. My room did not have hand washing soap, enough condiments or sustainability indicating paper door hanger. The last one was later supplied. Most importantly, the staff checking me in did not welcome or had not given me the information on the hotel property or location or anything. I had food at the bar and that was excellent. The service there was excellent, too.

The perfect location

Historic downtown is completely walkable from this location including food, shopping and site seeing. The hotel was quiet, clean and beautiful.

St. Patrick's Day fun

This hotel is the perfect place to stay for St. Patrick's Day week/weekend. Very convenient location and all popular bars, etc. are walking distance. Parade comes by and end right at the hotel.

Not four star quality, don't waste your money. Get an airbnb instead.

Upon our arrival at 4:40 PM, we were informed that our room was not yet ready, despite it being well past the standard check-in time. When we were finally able to access the room, it was in a deplorable state; food was left on the floor, the window shade was broken, and, most critically, the balcony door did not have a functional lock. This lack of basic security is a serious concern that should have been addressed prior to any guest being assigned the room. Furthermore, the interactions we had with your staff, both over the phone and at the front desk, were deeply disappointing. The employees showed a complete lack of empathy for our situation and only assigned us a new, secure room after significant prompting. While the second room provided was an improvement from the first, our experience was marred by a series of unacceptable service and safety failures. We expect a much higher standard of cleanliness, safety, and professional conduct from your establishment, especially considering the price of the stay. This is not a four star hotel. We did not use the valet, but the valet guys were actually the only friendly staff working at this hotel.

HORRIBLE, TERROR INDUCING

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

This was easily the worst hotel experience I've ever had. First, upon check in (3PM) my room wasn't ready. I was traveling with someone who had flown in very early that day and they needed to rest so I told them to give me a room that was available. I had booked a double. They gave me a single, only realizing this when I took the elevator up to the 11th floor and entered the room. We go back downstairs. Reception tells me this is the only room they have available. Since we were desperate, I said, fine give it to me. We then went back into the elevator only to be TRAPPED FOR 45 MINUTES. We range the alarm at least 15 times, called the emergency phone - only to be handed over to what we can presume was the elevator company who didn't confirm that help was on the way b/f dropping the call. We tried calling reception at least 10 times - no one answered! We tried calling corporate only to be shuffled around an automated voice system. We finally called the Savannah Fire Department shortly after the elevator began to lurch and then decended to the basement only to automatically go back up and open at the lobby. We jumped out, I ran over to the front desk, asking them why they didn't come to help us! They were completely not moved by the situation which leads me to believe this is a common occurance. AT NO POINT DID THEY ATTEMPT TO STOP OTHER GUESTS FROM ENTERING THAT ELEVATOR! I yelled out through the Lobby to not take Elevator #4. I then insisted on a refund only to be told that the hotel manager wasn't on premises. They gave me her card and were very snippy about the entire situation. We left, and bumped into the elevator repair guy from Otis Elevator who was entering - no one had even called him to tell him were were out safely. Over the next 48 hours I called the hotel manager's direct line at least 10 times - each time it went straight to voicemail AND THE VOICEMAIL BOX WAS FULL. I finally got a a hold of her 4 days later at which point she told me that they refunded me but that taxes and surcharges would not be refunded. SO FOR A TERRIFYING, PSTD INDUCING EXPERIENCE I PAID $55 AND MY ENTIRE TRIP WAS RUINED. I've stayed at the DeSoto twice in the past NEVER AGAIN!
