The Thompson hotel in Savannah is a beautiful hotel with amazing rooftop views of Savannah. The staff from the concierge to bar julian are professional and accommodating. The location is great and there’s a free ferry nearby to get closer to the center of the city. Also we left a photo printout in the lobby photo booth after dinner at Bar Julian, and when we went back for drinks the next night, our server remembered us and returned it! We loved our stay at the Thompson hotel

Let me start by saying this is a beautifully-designed hotel. And the flaws I’m pointing out are somewhat picky, but I feel in line with expectations for a hotel in Amex’s Hotel Collection class. The Thompson Hotel is in a great location in new riverside development at the east end of the famed river walk. The neighborhood is quiet, clean, and perfect for walking. In general I liked the hotel, but it feels like they spent their budget on interior design and scrimped on the contractor who built the place. Details like cracked floor tiles, non-level light fixtures, mismatched power outlet covers, etc. Took away from what could be a much finer hotel experience. We also noticed some drink spills in the elevator that took a full day to get cleaned up. The pool was rather dirty with leaves and even a stray napkin floating in the water. The modern, framed glass shower was not cleaned very thoroughly, and visible detritus was gathered in the corners. I feel like a lot of this could be addressed with more attentive, reactive staff. Breakfast and dinner were yummie and the views from the rooftop restaurant were great. Again, the hotel is nice and if it weren’t marketed in the same class as a JW Marriott, I wouldn’t be so critical.

recently had the opportunity to stay at the Thompson Savannah, and it left a very strong impression on me—in all the right ways. From the moment I arrived, what stood out most was the level of customer service. It was consistent, genuine, and professional without ever feeling scripted. Every interaction—front desk, restaurant staff, housekeeping—was handled with care and attention. You can tell when a team is well-led and takes pride in their work, and that’s clearly the case here. It made the entire experience feel welcoming and easy. The facility itself is exceptional. It strikes a balance that’s not always easy to achieve—modern and upscale, yet comfortable and inviting. The design is clean and intentional, with a sense that every detail has been thought through. Nothing feels out of place, and nothing feels excessive. It’s simply well done. My room was outstanding. Spacious, quiet, and beautifully appointed. There’s a level of comfort there that allows you to settle in quickly, which I always appreciate after a long day of travel. The finishes are high quality, the layout is functional, and the overall feel is one of understated luxury. It’s the kind of room where you can both relax and recharge. The dining experience was equally strong. The restaurant offers a great atmosphere—lively but not overwhelming—and the service matched the tone of the hotel: attentive, professional, and authentic. The food itself was excellent. It’s not just convenient dining—it’s a place you actually want to spend time in, which says a lot. And then there’s the location. It really couldn’t be better. Close to everything Savannah has to offer, yet just far enough removed from the busiest areas to feel calm and manageable. Whether you’re walking along the river or heading into the historic district, it’s all easily accessible. What I appreciated most about my stay is that nothing felt forced. There’s a quiet confidence to how the Thompson Savannah operates. They’re not trying to impress you—they just do things the right way, consistently. And in my experience, that’s what separates a good stay from a truly memorable one. This is a first-rate property with a team that clearly understands hospitality. I would absolutely return—and more importantly, I would recommend it without hesitation.

Quietest hotel we have ever stayed in. Exceptional staff, very nice room and beautiful bathroom. They make a house car available to reserve and will take you anywhere within a 3 mile radius. Was awesome because we didn't have to Uber nearly as much as usual. We would definitely stay here again.
