Good not Great and beware of a few things

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Overall a satisfying resort for either relaxation or business. Food is very good. The place feels a bit dated but sprinkled upgrades here and there. Rooms are ok, unfortunately we had a terrible view of the roof so location of your room is important for good views. Rooms tidy and fresh. Not stale smelling especially for all carpet and housekeeping is great. Pools are nicely situated however very cloudy and seemed to be full of sunscreen. But the next morning still had that haze. Golf course is excellent and close by. Tennis and Pickleball available and spa is excellent with its own rooftop pool. Kid friendly but also adult appropriate areas if you want to be away from families and kids. It is on the expensive side. Food. Drinks amenities but I guess that’s expected. My biggest issue and be wary of this…they charge your credit card with phantom fees during the stay. They get removed as they stay pending however we had people that had random hundreds even thousands charged on their card and had to go chase that down with the front desk. It would seem like they are anticipating your spending habits based on a few early purchases then…who knows, create some 10x or something charge to your cards without you knowing. I think there are posts on other review sites about this. 2nd big issue - Cotton and Mowry restaurant (only one we ate at) would consistently tell you 5-10 minute wait to be seated when the restaurant was never more than 1/4 full when we were there. What? Our last day we were told it would be a 25 minute wait…same empty restaurant. How. Is there an issue with staffing? It’s clearly not full as we stand at the front desk of the restaurant. These 2 issues bring it down a notch for me. Maybe even to 3.5. It’s nice but it’s not 5 star luxury nice. 3.5-4 is a very good rating and expectation for your stay if you choose.

Great hotel and staff

Paula along with the rest of the team at this hotel made our stay absolutely wonderful. Paula was so kind and helpful and went out of her way to make sure our stay was great. We can’t wait to visit again!

Not a Luxury Property

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Not the Luxury Property we Expected. Our "deluxe, extra large" room had a view of a parking lot. We asked to be moved, which Holly accommodated, but the front desk guy ( I know his name, but will resist posting) showed us how terribly inconvenient this was for him. Said the keys would be another 10 minutes, and he would text as soon as they were ready. 25 min later I got a call from Holly making sure we were in the room- when I approached, the front desk dude said"We are very busy." Serious attitude. Today we left the room to play golf at 8:30-when we returned at 3:40, it was not cleaned! We are currently at the pool, where we had to get towels from behind the desk because there is no attendant. This is NOT a luxury resort! Many other options in Scottsdale...this was a mistake.

Excellent Service in Mowry & Cotton

We had a wonderful stay here. The room was nice and spacious and housekeeping was great. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The resort was crowded with groups and families as it was vacation week but we still really enjoyed ourselves. The golf course was in great shape and perfect for all levels of play. I must say that we received the very best service we have ever encountered in any restaurant every morning in Mowry & Cotton with Lekzi and Jonathan. We will definitely return next year.

Mind boggling

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

My husband and I chose The Phoenician for a mini-honeymoon, using a large number of Marriott points with the expectation of an exceptional, elevated experience. Based on its “luxury” branding and AAA Five Diamond status, we arrived genuinely excited. Unfortunately, that excitement quickly turned into confusion and disappointment. I’m still struggling to understand how this property maintains a 4-star rating. The gap between what was advertised and what was delivered was…impressive. The room itself was perfectly average. Not offensive, but not memorable either. If someone told me it was a standard 2 or 3 star hotel room, I wouldn’t question it. The balcony was nice, but certainly not enough to justify the “luxury” label. Where things really fell apart though was the service. Standard housekeeping was not provided. Over a 6-day stay, despite calling and even going to the front desk in person, we never received a proper room cleaning. At one point, someone stopped by, made the bed, and dropped off towels…while leaving behind dirty wine glasses and trash. An interesting interpretation of “service.” It gets better. Later that same day, a bottle of champagne and fruit were delivered as a congratulatory honeymoon gift (a thoughtful gesture). However, it was placed right alongside the same uncollected garbage, which made the experience feel more way more awkward than celebratory. Fast forward to when we eventually ran out of toilet paper, we had to walk to the front desk to ask for more. At that point, it genuinely felt like we might as well have packed our own. What stood out most wasn’t just the inconvenience—it was how completely unfazed the staff seemed and how they handled it - with lack of urgency or apology. At the pool, we ordered hummus that took an hour to arrive. After asking a waitress, it was pretty clear the order had been forgotten. Again, things happen—but the food finally arrived undercooked and underwhelming. Ironically, the only smooth experiences we had were the ones we paid extra for—like the $450 cabana. And to be fair, the golf cart staff were excellent and easily the highlight of the service we encountered. Thankfully, we spent much of our time off-property hiking and kayaking, which ended up being the best part of the trip, likely because it meant less time dealing with the hotel. I don’t typically write reviews, but this experience was too disappointing to ignore. When you market yourself as a luxury property, the expectation isn’t perfection—it’s basic hospitality paired with elevated service. Unfortunately, this stay delivered neither. The worst part about this entire experience has actually been having to relive it by writing this review. But my intention is to save others from having to go through a similar experience.

We stayed at The Phoenician in Scottsdale for three wonderful days that included golf for two. It was truly a phenomenal value.

My husband and I stayed at The Phoenician in Arizona. It was the most beautiful place anyone could stay that wasn't on an ocean. They also have a spa to die for! This resort will have you stress free by the time you leave. There was so much to do on the property that you didn't have to even leave to enjoy yourself.
