About the Hotel

Scottsdale is the place to go for art, shopping and nightlife in the Valley of the Sun. Now there's a hotel creating even more desire around the desert experience. The Saguaro has arrived, bringing with it a new look to where Old Town, the Arts district and Civic Center Mall meet. Bright, lush and vibrant, it's a fresh face amid Scottsdale's buzzing downtown scene. Guestrooms & Suites: The Saguaro experience begins, fittingly enough, outside amid the arid weather and brilliant sunlight of the Sonoran Desert. Each room exterior is accented by the color of a native desert flower, creating a visual spectrum throughout the resort grounds. Inside, your room's primary color is joined by contemporary and natural furnishings in wood and leather, including hand-crafted pieces imported from Mexico.

A lot of bang for your buck

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

I feel I got a lot of bang for my buck. I stayed at this hotel when it was under the Sonder umbrella many times and this was my first time back in over 1 1/2 years under the new ownership. My requirements then and now was a room that was quiet and had a separate bedroom and living area with a large table to set up my computer to work ( and a mini fridge). I got the superior king suite which meets that need. The suite compared to normal hotel rooms is huge! And the bathroom is the one item that keeps me returning. The tub is huge and separate from the shower in 2 seperate areas. There are 2 distinct bathroom areas which I love. It runs the whole width of the hotel room. The hotel room itself is always immaculately clean with tons of towels and toiletries. I do not like housekeeping service while I am ant an hotel and anytime I needed a refresher for coffee etc I was able to get asap from the front desk. I also like I can park outside of my room. There are 2 pools and one of the best hotel gyms I have used. The beds are super comfy and I really need to find out where they buy their bedroom mirrors because it is super flattering :).the hotel is the closest hotel to the old Scottsdale shopping area and minutes from the mall. So to the negatives... I would assume for others, but not necessarily for me based on what I care about... overall, the walkways and common areas outside (besides the pool, gym, etc) are still kind of run down. Elevators may give you a jump scare, ice machine may or may not work but they put up signs to direct to the next working machine. Balconies also off the rooms are not upgraded. But none of that is ever my concern. If you are inviting people over to be impressed with your posh hotel this is not the place for you... if you want a large and clean room that is safe and affordable this will be your jam as it ticks all of th I will say, the first room I was given was spacious but overlooking the main pool and I was unaware that they have music, food and drinks from 11-6 so it wasn't great with my working from my hotel room. I went to reception to inquire how long it lasts and if it is every day and when they said yes I requested to move rooms and they did so immediately to the far end without a moments thought! And said they just wanted me to be happy. And I was! The pools had plenty of towels and seats and beds and cabanas too and it was not crowded at all! The staff was great and kind and I appreciated the pre welcome text from Bryce and having the ability to text for any issues or requests and to check out via text. All in all for the 4 days where they had a special of 1 night free with 3 days, I spent 580 bucks or so and it was well worth it. I will definitely stay again.

Check behind front desk after you pay!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

If you do any money transactions with these people, make sure you check behind them. My mistake is trusting people that I assume that knows what they’re doing, to do it right. I reserved for two nights, called back the following day and decided to pay for those two nights. I like to pay in advance to see whats left of my vacation money and plan accordingly. So, I get to the hotel, I didn’t get the top floor I requested when i paid for the room. I told the front desk person and he said he can correct that with no problem. He handed me the key, I think to room 3102 and he told me it’s on the top floor as I requested and he upgraded me for free to the balcony pool view. I get to building 3 and go up the stairs to the top floor and after walking in circles, I find that there is no 3102 on the top floor. I went to the second floor and looked around and to the first floor and found it and thats when i called. He apologized and said he made a mistake and he can correct it for me. I explained it’s triple digit weather and too hot for all of this walking around searching for a room. This time, i decided to take the elevator 👎🏽 and this is the first time i ever felt so terrified of an elevator. The elevator consistently jerk up and down and we ascended, got tot he floor and it did a wobble type of shake. I get inside the room and wasn’t impressed, I see why this is a 3 star hotel on Expedia/priceline and this was suppose to be one of the upgraded more expensive rooms. Anyway, the next morning I get a text message (see attached), that they’re having trouble processing my second day payment. This being the dumbest thing i ever heard from any hotel, I decided to go in person to see what is going on. I explained to the front desk that from day one I keep having issues with this place and ALL the hotels I ever stayed at, when i book and pay for 2 nights or more, they charge the entire thing to my card, I have NEVER been to a place like this that charge per night. His reply was; “I know, it’s our mistake”. He stated; “I see your first night was paid, I’m going to refund that and charge the second night to your credit card”. My credit card (my back up card) didn't go through because some kind of payment hold for the past 4 days. I also notice, this guy was not refunding me for my first stay, as some sort of courtesy/apology as he led me to believe, he refunded the first night and tried to charge both nights on my credit card instead. So I wind up having to check out a day and a half early, do to The Monarch’s error and failure to charge me the entire stay when I called in advance to do so. I went to the front desk to turn in the room keys and asked for the manager, he goes in the back and comes out and said they’re not here and he thinks they are on break. This is just their way of not wanting to discuss their error with me and being responsible. I travel to Phoenix all the time and never will book this place again.

Bad choice

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Bad choice! The rooms have minimal lighting. The bathroom has mildew. The outside halls are dirty. Room 3013 smelled like weed. The elevator shakes. This hotel looks like a cheap motel. Not worth it. Next time I will pay more and stay at a well known hotel.

Thankful for my stay at The Monarch!

I went to AZ to attend Mayo under not so pleasant circumstances. The staff here made me feel so at ease and welcome. Special shout out to Jordan in the restaurant/bar for befriending me and providing me with outstanding service no matter how busy or slow he was. Jordan went over an above to help me without any reason besides being an awesome human. The facilities were clean and very comfortable. Overall, I felt this place and the team fostered an atmosphere of health, wellness and rest (with a side of delicious margaritas made by Jordan). LOVED it and can't wait to go back in June. Thank you for overshadowing a tough time for me personally with all your hospitality, pleasant and caring staff, beautiful pool and gym facilities. Also, thank you Tod Miller's spa for providing the best massage I have had in years (hint: say yes to his CBD oil). Going forward, this will be my go to place to stay when I am in Scottsdale. Thank you all & see you soon!!

Fantastic location!

The pools were lovely. Very spacious and had relaxing beds by the pool. Also, there was a quiet pool and a hammock. The rooms are spacious, but there needs to be more staff on the grounds. It would have felt more secure if there were staff on the grounds around at night. The location is perfect - a quiet, large park where they have a market on weekends, and also within walking distance to all the restaurants and shops.
