Nicest folks running this hotel. I’ve learned the root work in hospitality is “healing”. Kind and caring people give the soul some sense of healing. Such is the case with their front desk and restaurant staff. The hotel has shades of being historic (possibly) but recently restored to also give a fresh and contemporary feel too. Also, this location is optimal for all of the Seattle landmarks and institutions being a chip shot from Pike Place Market. We loved our stay.

We recently stayed at The State and I should first say that the location and the staff are great. The lobby, restaurant, and basic amenities are also quite good. If the room isn't that important to you, by all means, The State has a lot going for it. The problem, for us at least, was the room. "Spartan chic" maybe? There is virtually no furniture and the combo "desk" / dresser top is about 12 inches deep from the wall and already cluttered with the coffee maker, ice bucket set, and other mess the hotel puts there. You basically have nowhere to put anything. There is no closet - but a cut-out closet-space set into the wall with a single bar hanger . . . on which we were generously supplied with three hangers. Most of the closet space is filled by the safe, so if you have to hang anything with length (dress, pants, etc.) they're probably going to be resting on the safe. The bathroom isn't much better, you definitely can't have two people in there at the same time - and shelf space is at a bare minimum. Lastly, we found the bed in our room quite uncomfortable, and our room (probably not all like this) was near some outdoor lights that never go off . . . so we were stuffing towels into the gaps at the top of the curtain bar to cut down on the light. Sleeping was difficult and we chose to leave early. There is nothing luxury about it and it even struggles with comfortable to be honest. We came to the conclusion that it is substantially overrated, unless people just don't care about these things when it comes to staying in a downtown hotel room.

When you’re looking for an amazing hip hotel with a diverse, happy staff and great vibe, look no further than the State Hotel. Centrally located near Pike’s Place, there’s music and views and food aplenty. Yes, the area is touristy but Seattle is easy to bike around and explore the wonderful variety the city has to offer.

Location couldn't be better, steps from Pike's Market; the rooms are modern and clean. They can arrange a transfer to the airport or cruise port at your convenience. It works very well!
