Poorly run hotel - issues at every step

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

My family went to Seattle for a concert. Arrived at the W around 5:20, after their (already somewhat later) 5pm check-in time. Right on pulling up - the valet staff was pretty rude and dismissive, saying the parking lot was full, and that I had to move my car because they needed to get cars out. I asked where I should park to unload my family and our items since the W is right on a city block with no pull-in area, and they just shrugged their shoulders. They told me there was a paid parking garage a block away. I went into the lobby to check-in and it was chaos. A huge line of people waiting to check in - very loud and chaotic. When I finally got to the desk to check-in, they told me that our room wasn't ready AND there was no timetable on when it would be ready. At almost 6pm. I asked if there was another room they could put us in or an upgrade (since I'm Bonvoy Gold and they're supposed to upgrade us if available - more on that in a moment), and they said there were no other rooms. While I was letting them know that was really disappointing and trying to figure out how we were going to make the concert, all of a sudden she said the room was now clean and issued us our keys. We thought it was "crisis averted", but were wrong. I went to park the car at the garage a block away and my wife and two kids went to the room. The room was dirty and had not been cleaned. My wife called the front desk to let them know, and they said they would bring her other keys, but 15+ minutes later when I got back to the lobby they had not yet. I went to the desk, and another person helped me and issued me keys to an "upgraded room". I told him that was odd since I had just been told that there were no other/upgraded rooms. He made up some excuse. but was trying to help. Then there were several times during our stay where we called and requested things that were never provided. We asked for a luggage cart when leaving - never brought or called to let us know it wasn't available. We asked for an extra blanket for our kids and they brought something that was the thickness of a sheet and told it was the only one available. One blanket in the whole hotel? Overall the word "execution" comes to mind - it was really poor execution at every step. Not a well run hotel. We've stayed at other Ws that were nice experiences - this one was not. They promised to add 50k points to my account as an apology, but that their "systems were down" at the time. Still haven't seen it. I'd avoid this hotel - lots of other options in Seattle.

Change the breakfast process

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

We enjoyed a weekend get away at the W in Seattle where we enjoyed a beautiful corner room. The front desk and bell staff were excellent. The downside of the stay was the breakfast process in the restaurant. As a Lifetime Titanium Elite member, we had a breakfast voucher as there was no lounge. The first issue was the voucher was only good for $40, virtually impossible for two people to get breakfast here since the buffet is $38 and the menu was pretty limited to other options. In addition, the line to be seated for breakfast was long and the hostess showed no sense of urgency to get anyone seated, although there were plenty of seats. On the second morning of our stay we decided we would only have coffee. My husband went down to order the coffee, but in order to do so, he had to stand in line with everyone waiting to be seated for breakfast to place his order with the hostess, rather than stepping to the counter to do so. When he went to the front desk to ask if they could help, the answer was “no,” but did say they have had multiple complaints about the process. So if guests are complaining about the process, then change the process!

Terrible ride staff

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Terrible experience. The staff especially the older man at the market are very rude. All I asked for what a cup of water and he makes it seem like a neusance. If I had a functioning mini fridge I wouldn't need to do all the way downstairs to ask for ice water.

Excellent guest experience and incredible atmosphere

The W is an elegant 4 star hotel that welcomed my friends with incredible experience. The hotel is sleek, modern, and filled with helpful caring staff members that made sure we were well taken care of. I say this as a Marriott employee at different hotel and they really out did themselves!

Productivity game changer

This Outpost work setup is a game changer. I’m always hesitant to working from a hotel because I don’t want to slog all the equipment I need to be effective. But this solves every issue. I’ve raved about it to every coworker I talked to today… excellent service that I highly recommend!
