Striking Views, Peaceful Setting & Warm Comfort in the Sno

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Ion Adventure Hotel feels like it belongs to another planet — in the best possible way. Surrounded by lava fields and snowy mountains, with geothermal steam drifting in the distance, the atmosphere is quiet, surreal, and unforgettable. We took full advantage of the hotel’s geothermal outdoor pool and sauna. Slipping into the warm, mineral-rich water while snow fell around us was pure magic — a memory we’ll carry for a long time. Our room was sleek and comfortable, designed with clean lines and minimalism. A patio door opened onto a view of a snowy rock wall — peaceful. We didn’t dine in the restaurant but had dinner from Silfra delivered to our room — and it was perfect. Breakfast was generous, the staff was friendly, and the overall experience offered a peaceful, remote retreat surrounded by Iceland’s dramatic landscape.

Overall disappointing

Not worth it. Rooms are simple but reasonably comfortable (think top-notch youth hostel vibe). Bathrooms are tiny and pretty basic. The “spa” is just a tepid sauna and a simple hot pool 60cm deep, quite nice to sit in and look at the view, but nothing special. There is little by way of hotel service (carry your own bags etc). The welcome drink was a total miss because throughout the checkin process the bottles were right there on the desk but never offered — just when you’d reconciled yourself to the idea that the drinks were for someone else (of some unknown greater importance to the hotel) and had your keys in hand did they offer a glass, by which point it was too late. Effectively, they won badwill by having welcome drinks view but pointedly not offering them The restaurant was quite good, nice service and a limited but tasty menu Breakfast was a sorry affair and definitely not worth the $30 The one standout is the Northern Lights bar. It’s a great surprise to step out of the uninspiring and gloomy corridor of the guest room wing and into a bright open space with great views

Northern lights hotel

Remote location. Great place to see the northern lights. They even do a wake up call for it. Food was decent. Buffet breakfast. Lots of coffee options. The geothermal hot tub was fantastic. Staff were super helpful. Definitely worth the visit.

Great place to see the Northern Lights

Was pleasantly surprised how nice the hotel was after reading some of the reviews. The rooms were clean, the staff friendly. We got a call that the lights were active so we watched the show from the hotel's geothermal pool. After our overnight flight from NYC and a full day of sightseeing this was the perfect end to the day.
