I booked one night through Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts (FHR). The rate was comparable to the nearby Waldorf, but notably higher than Shangri-La and Conrad. The hotel's hardware is solid, but the service noticeably lags behind those three. Parking costs ¥120 per night and does not count toward the FHR $100 experience credit. Breakfast for two was included via FHR, but no complimentary breakfast was offered for my children—despite my IHG Diamond status. There was no Diamond recognition at all: no room upgrade, no Club Lounge access, and no family-friendly consideration, though IHG points was accumulated. Judging from the empty Shangxi(尚席) restaurant during our lunch the next day, it didn’t seem like the hotel was full. Perhaps this property is more suitable for business travelers than for families like mine. For similar or even better pricing, the three FHRs: Waldorf, Shangri-La, and Conrad clearly deliver a much higher level of service and warmth.

Firstly, may I say that the service that I received from Michael, the Hotel Manager when I was staying at the hotel was fantastic. A more charming and accommodating man, you’d struggle to find. The hotel accommodates approximately a quarter of the ‘Regent Tower’ located in a very central part of Pudong, close to the WTC and Shanghai Tower. The others parts are offices (bottom half) and apartments (top quarter.) The hotel has a lovely pool spa on the 41st Floor and the pool is very reminiscent of James Bond ‘Shanghai Swimming Scene’ in Skyfall. Please note, you will be expected to wear a swimming hat in the pool and won’t be permitted to swim if you don’t have one. The room from our suite (3210) was amazing. Genuinely, worth the cost just for the views of The Pearl Tv Tower, WTC and Shanghai Tower (tallest building in Asia and 3rd highest in the world.) you will have floor ceiling glass and shutters operate by pressing an automated button for darkness or privacy. The bed was so comfortable. The original contents of the mini bar and complimentary once, which was a nice surprise. As the locality is home to lots of offices there is not shortage of coffee shops and food can be delivered from hundreds of local restaurants. There is also a charming, modern park, within a short 5 minute walk. So the issue: Well, the F and B isn’t great. We had two lunches in the ground floor Italian and the service was comical. A main course delivered within 30 seconds of a starter and a wait of 50 minutes between the first main course and the last one (we were a party of 4) .The breakfast wasn’t much better. Lots of staff around but no one doing much. A lot of the breakfast items were luke warm or just cold. We had breakfast on the 35th Floor Club, the main breakfast items (which were meant to be hot) were all cold. My wife asked for butter for some bread and they didn’t have any on the floor so had to go down to the ground floor, which took almost 20 Minutes. The member of staff that did this only brought up one portion so when the next person wanted it , it was the same fiasco again. Not much evidence of ‘common sense’ I’m afraid! To give some balance, we had a similar problem in the Peninsula when we went there for drinks. It’s appears that post Covid, staffing and quality of staff in Shanghai hotels is just not there. Get your F and B product right (it really is terrible) and you have an outstanding property..

Fantastic hotel, facilities, location and rooms are superb. The only downside is room service doesn’t have a vegetarian option and in room entertainment is poor, TV channels are basically just Chinese and a couple of outdated movies and cartoons.

Great Hotel with stunning views of the Oriental Pearl Tower. The hotel has a great location for sightseeing with a metro station within walking distance with the lines serving major attractions. The views are out of this world, especially at the pool, and it's definitely one of the best pools I've been to. The service is top-notch throughout the hotel. An example is when I was struggling to get a reservation at a restaurant through a Chinese app. Christina helped me book the reservation using her own account. This type of service was unexpected and allowed me to go to a restaurant I was really looking forward to. I would highly recommend this hotel.
