Excrements on the toilet seat

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

After check-in, we needed to recognise traces of excrements on our toilet seat. This being bad enough, we asked calmly at reception that it should be fixed while we were out for dinner. Nothing was fixed when we came back, instead we found a letter saying it would just be „peeling“. Indeed, there was an additional issue with peeling in the toilet bowl, but the traces were the real issue. The manger on duty, whom I then contacted at reception, denied the existence of the excrement traces until I urged her to come to the room. There she needed to recognise the traces A new room was finally offered, same category, worst view, zero favour from the hotel. Issues can happen, but this way of customer care is just unacceptable.

Not 100% fine

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Had booked a Clubroom with a view of the Huangpu River and Pudong. Spectacular view, especially at night. The room was pleasantly large, and everything was very clean and well-maintained. The downside I found was that there was no proper wardrobe to store your things well during a longer stay. The room safe is located on the floor in the bathroom. If you want to use it, you have to get down on your knees. Had booked the stay through Trip, but wanted to book the transfer from the airport through the hotel. To secure the payment, the hotel sent me a PDF. I would have had to print it out, fill it in by hand, sign it, scan it, and send it back. I did not do that. This is not China 2026, but the Stone Age! Upon arrival at PVG, to my surprise, there was a Hyatt car anyway. I did not use it, but took the car I had booked and paid for through Trip. At check-out, however, they still charged me for the Hyatt car, which I had never booked. It took a few pleasant discussions to cancel the position, which then happened.

Good view bad service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

The hotel sees Huangpu river, which is definitely of great view. However I can't expect a normal 5 star hotel service or a modern hardware even it was renovated 2 years ago. Compared to my stay in Grand Hyatt, Shenzhen, I can't give it a like/love review based on its insufficient, unprofessional service.

1-Star Review – Very Disappointing Experience at Hyatt on the Bund ,Shanghai

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I recently stayed at Hyatt on the Bund with my family, and unfortunately, it was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I have had. When we arrived at around 1:30 PM, I politely asked the front desk if early check-in was possible because my young child needed to take a nap. The staff informed me that our room was being upgraded and would be ready by 3:00 PM. I accepted this and went out for lunch with my family. However, when we returned after 3:00 PM, we were told that the room was still not ready. I do not understand why the hotel would commit to a specific time if they could not deliver on it. Eventually, we were informed that our room had been changed from the West Tower to the East Tower. The service throughout our stay was very disappointing. Most of the staff appeared unhappy and unfriendly, rarely smiling and making guests feel unwelcome. As a paying customer, I expected basic hospitality and professionalism, especially from a hotel that claims to be five-star. When we finally received our room on the 25th floor, the condition of the room was shocking. The bathroom sink and toilet area were dirty, the toilet had a strong urine smell, and there was visible fungus and mold in the shower corners and around the drainage area. There were also stains and signs of poor housekeeping throughout the bathroom. This is completely unacceptable for a hotel of this standard and certainly not what I would expect from a five-star property. The only positive aspects of this hotel are its excellent location and the beautiful views of the Bund and the Lujiazui CBD skyline. Unfortunately, these positives cannot make up for the poor service, delayed check-in, and unacceptable room cleanliness. Based on my experience, I would not recommend staying at this hotel. It is seriously overrated and does not meet the standards of a five-star hotel. There are many better options in Shanghai. Stay here at your own risk—you may regret it.

Excellent Hyatt property right on the Bund

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Overall, this is a fantastic Grand Hyatt property located right on the Bund. While it is an older hotel, it was recently renovated in 2024. The location is perfect, allowing you to walk straight out onto the Bund, which was exactly what I was looking for. The views from both towers are incredible. The Vue Bar at the top offers a prime view of the city lights at night and is highly recommended; however, be aware there is a 5,000 RMB minimum spend, which we chose to skip. > The gym is great and fully equipped, alongside a nice pool and sauna. The Bund Club was excellent, but the staff were the true highlight—they were incredible. If you have club access or Globalist status, you will be exceptionally well looked after.
