In the heart of downtown Shanghai lies Wanda Reign on the Bund, part of the Legend collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts. Located on the Huangpu River and with the Pudong Skyline in the background, the hotel offers stunning views from its central location. The luxurious rooms, with comfortable amenities like heated floors and luxury linens, are designed in two styles. Trendy offers high energy with Art Deco designs, while Noble uses mahogany wood and magnolia embroideries for a noble feel.

The St. Regis on the Bund, Shanghai is a very elegant hotel, nice interior design and the room are clean, neat, nice and well organized. The hotel staffs are extremely friendly and helpful, providing excellent services to all hotel guests. As far as location wise, the walk from hotel to places of interests (e.g. Nanjing Road) are convenient while enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way. It is a very decent walk. Overall, this hotel offers a lot of services and excellent atmosphere whether be business or leisure trips.

Rating: 8/10 I stayed here in room 608 (a "Shanghai Panoramic Bund, Guest room, 1 King, Panoramic Bund view") for three nights in January 2026. The St. Regis Shanghai on the Bund has a lot going for it—chiefly, one of the most jaw-dropping views you’ll find anywhere and a location that puts you right in the heart of the action. There’s glamour here, and moments of quiet brilliance. But there’s also inconsistency, wear, and a few operational hiccups that kept the experience from soaring. Still, at the price I paid, I wouldn’t hesitate to return—just with a slightly adjusted set of expectations. Positives: • The view from my sixth-floor corner room was nothing short of breathtaking. Overlooking the iconic curve of the Bund, it may well be the best view I’ve had from any hotel, ever. I spent mornings and evenings stationed at the sitting area by the window, watching light shift across the skyline. Motorized sheers and blackout curtains opened and closed with the push of a button—albeit one I had to physically get out of bed to reach (luxury problems, I know). • The location is unbeatable. Nestled right on the Bund and just a short walk from Yu Garden, the hotel places you within arm’s reach of Shanghai’s most iconic sights. Whether wandering into the bustle or gazing at it from above, you’re perfectly positioned. • One evening, I headed up to the top-floor bar for a sunset gin and tonic. Watching night fall and the lights bloom across the skyline while sipping a cocktail was a memory I’ll keep. The space itself felt grand, with floor-to-ceiling views and a moody, elegant ambiance to match. • The hotel gym delivered exactly what I needed: space, a full range of modern equipment, and friendly, professional staff. It made it easy to stick to a routine. • The bed was superb—plush, supportive, and perfect for collapsing into after long days of exploring the city. Sleep came easy. • And then there’s the value. For the view alone, the room rate felt like a steal. It’s rare to feel like you can’t afford not to stay somewhere, but this view, at this price point, is exactly that. Negatives: • At check-in, I was offered an upgrade to a suite that wasn’t yet cleaned—something I was open to considering. To my surprise, the front desk agent personally escorted me to the room, which was still in post-checkout disarray: unmade bed, food waste, the works. To make matters worse, the suite’s view was inferior—angled rather than panoramic. I declined. But the moment left me wondering how something so avoidable made it that far. • The spa experience followed a similar pattern: potential undermined by lack of polish. I arrived for a scheduled massage and was asked to enjoy the sauna while they tried to locate a therapist. No locker, no guidance, just vague gestures and a smile. It wasn’t unpleasant, but at a hotel of this caliber, clarity and care are expected from the start—not after you’ve already wandered into the steam room. • Strangely, despite the hotel’s relatively recent opening, my room already showed signs of wear. Cracked tile in the bathroom, scuffed finishes, and an overall feeling that the maintenance team hadn’t kept pace with the property’s promise. • The thermostat system was confusing at best. Two units—one in the open-concept bathroom, one in the bedroom—seemed to operate independently. And both shut off when the lights went out, meaning I had no idea what temperature I was locking in overnight. In January it wasn’t a problem, but I’d be wary of that setup in Shanghai’s sweltering summer. • Finally, food and beverage. I enjoyed the breakfast buffet and ordered room service several times—solid across the board. But coming off stays at the Mandarin Oriental Beijing and Four Seasons Osaka, the culinary quality here landed a half-step lower. It was good, just not memorable.

Very nice place. Wonderful staff. The food bar was over the top with an excellent choice of high quality food. We felt like we were in a palace during meal time.

As a seasoned luxury traveler, The Shanghai on the Bund reminded me what real excellence feels like. We stayed 5 nights and were upgraded to a view of the Bund & Pudong and the Huangpu river and skyline view was extraordinary. We enjoyed it immensely. The location could not be better. Yu Garden is close. Nanjing Road shopping is close. The subway is close. The Bund is close. Exploring Shanghai was effortless. The staff were gracious and exceptional. They were warm, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful. When we arrived at the hotel, our internet signal was not working so our Alipay & Wepay were down. With no RMB cash, we were couldn't pay for our car. When hotel staff Alex opened the car door, he immediately and unprompted offered to help us pay with his phone. Special shout out to Alex who deserves special recognition for helping us in our bind and going far beyond what anyone could reasonably expect. The breakfast buffet was astonishing. I am not exaggerating when I say it is the best I have encountered in any hotel. The variety was endless and everything was executed with real care. We didn't have to repeat any food choice during our 5 day stay unless we wanted to taste it again. The ice cream at breakfast raised an eyebrow at first, but hey we are on vacation ... and it was fun. The Art Deco design throughout the hotel and in the rooms was beautiful, exuding quiet confidence and elegance. It is the kind of environment that makes you sit a little straighter and speak a little more thoughtfully. Overall, this was a remarkable stay. Sophisticated, warm, and flawlessly run. I would return immediately and I am already looking for a reason to do so.

I was fortunate to stay at the St. Regis Shanghai The Bund this week on a one-night staycation. From the moment I checked in, the experience was seamless and warm. The Art Deco style throughout the hotel felt elegant and refined. My room was lovely, with a wonderful view over the river and the Bund. Dinner at the newly opened SPAGO restaurant was a highlight. The space is beautifully designed, the view over the city added a lovely ambience, and both the food and service were excellent. Breakfast service was welcoming and attentive; George took great care of me. The fitness area also impressed, a serene tree-lined space with real energy; Mark at the entrance made my visit memorable. Alan, the General Manager, seems to instill a positive energy across the teams, and it shows in every interaction. I look forward to returning soon!"
